Hi, Looking to see if anyone knows anything about the Crowes of County Clare, Ireland who moved to Cromwell, CT and New Britain, CT in the early 1840's. My GGgrandmother's maiden name was Kathryn (Kate) Crowe, she married a Patrick Meehan and moved to CA, where I am now, several generations later.
William P Crowe and his wife Hannah

I am searching for information on an Irish immigrant named William P Crowe. I do not know exactly where from Ireland he originated, but from what I've learned, he was born in May 1850. He immigrated to the United States in 1868. According to the Chicago Voting Records of 1892, he came to Chicago right after he immigrated. He married a woman named Hannah, an immigrant from Norway. She was born in Mar 1861. She immigrated to the United States around 1878. I am very certain they married in Chicago, but I am not sure of the approximate date, but based on the Census records, the year of marriage is estimated to be around the year 1881.

I was wondering if it is possible to find their marriage certificate. If it is possible to find the certificate, I would love to see it.

Crowe- where did name come from

Dear Crowe BOard, It seems a few people are puzzled about where Crowe came from. From what I know it was derived from a very long Scottish name, with about(13)characters in it, and shortened to Crowe. From what I know, it was Scottish. Many Scots went to Northern Ireland, and only stayed for a while and than came to America.I worked for a Scottish store for (5) years professionally, and did there resarch for them, and this is what we had for records of where the name came from.Someone else may know something more on the Crowe name.

I am looking for any information regarding the family of Charles Crowe and Mary Ollie (Kittle) Crowe who lived in Chattanooga. Mary worked in the hosiery mill at one time. They had a number of children, including a son by the name of Harry who was born around 1904 and died in 1973. They also had a grandson named Harry Calvin Crowe who was born around 1925 and I am wondering who his parents are and if he was adopted by his grandparents. Harry (born in 1904) is my husband's grandfather and we are very interested in finding any info as to where he lived, what kind of work he did and any other family he might have had.

Stephen Crowe c1855 Liverpool

am trying to find out a bit more about my ancestor Stephen Crowe who was born around 1855 in Liverpool.
His parents were Owen and Mary Crowe born around 1821 in Ireland. Stephen is listed on the 1871 census on board the training ship HMS Indefatigable. He married Harriet Parker in Prestwich, Lancs in 1880 and had a daughter Charlotte. Harriet died in 1887 and Stephen moved to Birmingham and then London, where he was remarried in 1903 to - wait for it - another Harriet Parker! They are listed as having two daughters, Josephine (1892) and Ethel (1894) They are definitely living as man and wife in Birmingham in 1901 but don't actally marry until 1903, some years after the children are born. There are also family stories regarding Clara Parker, sister of Harriet number two and a possible relationship with Stephen Crowe. The Parkers hail from Purfleet in Essex.
If anyone has any info on this fanstastic family intrigue I'd love to know more.
Crowe DNA Group Study Update, Spring 2006

Just a short Spring time note to let you all know that the Crow(e) DNA Group Study, in partnership with Family Tree DNA (FTDNA) of Houston, TX, is alive and very well. We now have grown to over 150 male Y-DNA testers from around the World since the inception of our Study back in January of 2003, and we are still growing, weekly.

Together with FTDNA, we have now identified 12 Crow/Crowe families that are unrelated, in modern times, from around the World with several of our members waiting for DNA matches. Testing is easy, painless, bloodless, and done without even leaving the comforts of home!

I am also happy to announce that FTDNA has just launched a new male Y-DNA Chromosome 59 marker test, along with reduced cost on some of their products they have made available to our Crow DNA Group Study members.

Please visit FTDNA at http://www.familytreedna.com/ and read about their products and services they offer.

Also visit our Crow DNA public page at FTDNA and see the different “Color” coded Crow families at; http://www.familytreedna.com/(fyr5sg45xqxzueibq5aty345)/publ... If you click on the gray button on the tool bar, titled, “Y Results” be very patient as the page loads slowly since we now have over 150 Crow members in our data base. When Y-Results page loads, be sure to also scroll down the page and see the World map, of where in the World the earliest Crow(e) ancestors were living. Click on the red map pins/balloons to see the tester’s ancestor’s name.

Isn’t it about time to let DNA testing for genealogy purposes take you and your family on a Crow Family History Trip of a Life Time, without even leaving home?"© All aboard!

Phillip Crow, Crow(e) DNA Group Study Administrator, crowslanding@netscape.net or phillipcrow@hotmail.com
I'm searching for information on a Crowe family from the Pittsburgh/MonValley area of Pennsylvania. My g-grandfather was named Michael Crowe - Thomas may have been his first or middle name, he was born circa 1860. He lived in the 24th ward of Pittsburgh in 1900, and, according to the census information, was born in Ohio, and his parents were born in Ireland. Michael was married to Alice Cush (daughter of John Cush and Mary Carville, Homestead, Pa.) Michael's children's names were: Mary (married a McKay, lived in Monaca, Pa. at the time of Michael's death in 1932;) Willis, born about 1883; John M. 1885; Johanna, 1888 (also called Mazy, who married Clyde E. Keller, Belle Vernon, Pa.); Thomas Francis Crowe, 1891 - 1967 (my grandfather, married Augusta Leclair, lived in Allenport, Charleroi area;) Earl Crowe, 1893, lived in Charleroi, died in 1955; Catherine, 1894, married Thomas "Brownie" O'Toole, lived in Monessen, had 13 children, died in 1981;) Charles F.,1897, died in Latrobe, Pa in 1967; Helen, 1899, married Patrick Dalton, had two children, Michael and Alice Dalton.

We now know that my husband is in the Aqua line of the Crowe family DNA. The oldest ancestor known at this time would be James Crow, b. 1713 in MD and d. 1794 in NC. Somewhere in this line there is a person who was known by the name of Harry Crowe. Harry may have been a nickname, but that is the name he is known by in our family. He either lived with or was married to a woman by the name of Ruby Crawford and they had a son, b. 1928, by the name of Carl. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with any information about this line.

Hi everybody,
I've come to a dead end on one of the lines I'm working on. My great grandmother was Maggie J Crowe (b: MI 1903 d: IN 1976 spouse: Sidney Charles). I am pretty sure her parents were William H Crow (b: 1867) and Lydia "Liddie" Cox. Maggie had sisters: Beatrice, Jessie, Mary, Rebecca and Naomi.

I have Lydias line back quite far, but I can't find much on William. He worked at saw mills (from one census record in KY, and another in Idaho, where two of the girls were supposedly born).

I believe William to be mostly, if not 100% Indian, however, the census records list him and the girls as white. There are also conflicting birth locations for the girls, leading me to believe that they were trying to hide their ancestry - making it very hard for me to go back any further.

I have been told that one couple up that line were a marriage between warring tribes, although thats not much to go on.

anyone have anything on these people, or any ideas for places I might search?

CROWE - Ireland to Ontario, Canada

Looking for any information on the William CROWE family. I know they came from Ireland, to Canada. But, I have not idea what part of Ireland, they came from. On the 1881 census, they are living at Elderslie, Bruce North, Ontario. William CROWE, was married to Alice (do not have a maiden name for her). There children where Arabella, Francis, Joseph, George, and Margaret. George CROWE married Christina McGillivray, she was the daughter for John and Elizabeth McGillivray of Elderslie township. They were married on the 7 Feb 1881 in Chesley. Any information on this CROWE family would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Amy

They livrd in Deadwoood, South Dakota for 5 years. They moved to Billings, Montana in the year the town was founded in 1882. Richard Crowe built many of the buildings in this town. They had nine children of whom seven survived. Isa may and Bertha Edna were born in Chelsea, Mass. Ida may died in infancy but Bertha Edna made the trip to Deadwood, South Dakota. The rest of the children were born in Billings, Montana.
