Tinmouth DIXON, c1800, London, UK - lawyer/barrister?

Searching for Tinmouth DIXON d 1840, father to William Tinmouth, Thomas Henry and Rev. Robert DIXON b 1805, London by his first wife (name unknown) and Frances and George DIXON by his second wife Caroline TAMISON. He had rooms at New Boswell Court, Lincoln's Inn, London and a library of legal books, suggesting he may have been a barrister.

His grandchildren had second names including CLOUGH, ETESON, DIXON, Tinmouth which suggests to me that these particular DIXONs had northern origins through their grandfather or possibly their unknown grandmother.

Anyone have any thoughts, as I am stuck with Tinmouth DIXON at the moment?

Hi Chris
I have a Hannah Dixon married to John Wailes (Marriage: 07 MAR 1811 Hutton Rudby, East Rounton, Yorkshire, England)
Their daughter Sarah married John Eteson who had links back to the Clough's through Mary Ann Clough b1774.
They were all from KNARESBOROUGH North Yorkshire.

Hi Ken
Thank you for your interest - really intriguing.
Seems like there could be possibilities with those not so common names involved.
I have a number of ancestors stuck at the first generation before Parish Registers and census - like many other researchers - and I just cannot get enough information to move back.
I often wonder if CLOUGH and ETESON come from the paternal grandfather, a ROBINSON, and not from the DIXON side but I just don't know.
But Knaresborough is a new place to focus on, so thank you.
Chris

Hi Chris,
Could you give me the names and details of the people that have "Eteson" as a middle name?

There is also a William Robinson b 1760(Deacon of Congregational Church of K/boro, Magistrate who married Elizabeth Eteson b1763. They had 5 kids John, William,
Sarah, Elizabeth and Maria
They were close families and were in business together ( in a flax mill) and Rev John Robinson was the exector of William Eteson's estate.
Rev John (first born above) married his cousin Mary Eteson (Rev John Robinson b27/11/1798 , d 03/08/1872 York, m 16/04/1822 Mary Eteson b 27/04/1797)
Rev John and Mary had two daughters that I know of Eliza and Annie.
I have all this info in our tree on genesreunited.
Cheers
Ken

Hi Ken
I have found a Ken Shields with an Elizabeth Eteson of Knaresborough relative on GenesReunited which I am assuming is you.

I will contact you through Genes when I have added some more of this part of my family which will explain the Dixon, Willmott, Robinson, Eteson relationships. Incidentally, the Willmott family owned silk mills in Dorset.

Fascinating. Dixons married with Wllmotts. But if you have Robinson, Eteson links then I have got them all. Sounds like you are related to Ralph Robinson Steward to Sir John Ingilby of Ripley? and then Knaresborough and southwards

There were two Edeson families in Ripley. For some reason one lot dod not like the other - so changed the name from Edeson to Eteson. All Etesons come from this source!

Hi ChrisR, from ChrisR.

I've come across this "Tinmouth" thread while searching for my own Tinmouth connections. John Robinson married Catherine Tinmouth (Bishopwearmouth in 1837). They moved to South Shields area.

Although I do not understand your connection with Tinmouth (the thread seems to suggest Tinmouth is a forename), I note that the provided fornames feature heavily in my Robinson line.

Regards,

Chris Robinson (Auck, NZ)
