I know you are researching Louttit but I am interested in your Drinkwater/Williams connection. My grandfather was Albert John Drinkwater Williams born in Llannely (sp?) Wales in 1894. He was the oldest and had 6? younger sisters. One of those sisters was Ruth. Could this be your Ruth? Mother was Sarah Drinkwater. Father was David Williams. Some of the sisters names were Dorothy, Winifred, Ida (or Ada). Albert moved to Canada in the 1920's and was at odds with his father.
Does this ring a bell with you?
Jane Campbell
jane.campell@home.com

I do not know the name of David's father. I am at a need for help here.

The Dighton Census in Mass. during 1790 gives these two people in the same area just before David Fish was married. Perhaps this is how they met if I have located the right two people in my tree.

I have been stuck here for several years on this blood line. My David was born 1776 in Mass.

Cannot find either of his parents. Story goes that Thomas and his brother got mixed into a bad crowd of kids and were sent on their uncles ship to live with their Grandfather in Portland ME around 1900.
Re: Drinkwater

Hi Arlene. My sister married one of your Drinkwaters... Joseph and Hannah were his gg grandparents. I believe that Ada was born in Manchester November 1, 1883, and the family emigrated to Canada shortly after. The family moved from Ontario to BC sometime between the birth of Albert in Arnprior on Feb 9, 1888, and the birth of David in Langley Prairie, BC, on July 26, 1890. Ada shows up with her parents in the 1901 census in Delta, BC, and I believe she married a James John Wilson in Chilliwack, BC, on May 24, 1902, though I haven't actually looked at the marriage record yet. In checking the BC death registrations (http://www.bcarchives.bc.ca/BC_Our_Collections/BC_Vital_Rrd_...), there are a few possible entries for Ada Wilson, but not for the date you mentioned (1941), so perhaps she died outside of BC?
Though my sister is no longer married to her Drinkwater, if we could share info we have, I think the nieces and nephews would be interested at some point. I'd be happy to send you source info for what I have. Your original post was quite some time ago though, so perhaps you've already found what you were looking for!
Regards, Jamie.

They had a sister, Sarah Jane, who was my great-greatgrandmother. I have the CW info on Reuben and James. I live in NW OHio. Do you live in Michigan? This is wonderful. I was wondering what happened to them. What do you know about their mother, Sarah Wilcox Drinkwater? I have been trying to get some type of birth record for her, but there is none. No death record either. I certainly could use your help.
Jan

Dear Sir,

I have no relationship to the Drinkwater's of Monkton & Pembroke, therefore I am unable to advise you as to an answer.

My feeling is that the probably answer to your question is no, however there is only one Robert Drinkwater born in the Castlemartin Hundred 1837 - 1900, therefore it could well be.

"Dulmidge" is a rather unusual surname and not one I have come across in Pembroke, but would certainly be prepared to be corrected.

Further research is required, if you could supply a few details.

Rgds
Owen
ORIEL a welsh window on a surname

You have answered an inquery in regards to Henry Drinkwater I can let you though that Mike Collins(another researcher)has said that father of Henry is unknown but his mother was a Rose Drinkwater and she did indeed have two other illegitimate children- Ann and Richard.I have a copy of Henry and Sarah's marriage cert and it does have listed father of Henry was a Richard (deceased)it seems unlikely that Henry knew his fathers name as his mother died young (abt aged 37ys)Henry was educated at an orphan school.A bit of a mystery.
Regards

Robyn

Thanks for looking. It seems that Henry was illegitimate or possibly adopted. I can't find any birth cert but I am sure that when we were in London I managed to get a copy of a marriage cert spouse Sarah Franklin Milton under Witchwood dated 14 March 1874. I am sure that the parents were not mentioned. I now can't find that cert. One source has said that Henry and two siblings were in a work-house with thier mother. Evidently the two siblings died and also perhaps thier mother. However it seems strange that the mother would have three illegitimate children.

Hi Barbara

My Drinkwater origins are in Derbyshire (abt 20 miles from Knutsford as the crow flies). I've hit a brick wall, so would be very interested to know about your books on Drinkwater families.

My gg grandparents were Thomas Drinkwater & Elizabeth Shirt who married in the Hayfield district of Derbyshire in 1849. I think Thomas was born on 13 March 1814 in the same district to John Drinkwater & Sarah Marriott who married on 26 June 1810 in Glossop.

I have identified the farm in Mellor ('The Meadows') where Thomas & Elizabeth started their married life together. According to Census information, this farm remains in the family for several generations, though the farm house is now in ruins. My great grandfather, Samuel Drinkwater was born there in 1862; he married Annie Wright in Macclesfield in 1895.

Census records show there are several other Drinkwater families in the Hayfield, Bugsworth, Mellor, Chapel en le Frith, and Chinley areas, but to date I have been unable to establish any connections.

Parish records are inaccessible for me as I am not resident in UK, so I wonder if the books you have might assist me?

:) Karen

I have Thomas Drinkwater + Elizabeth Shirt married in Hayfield, Derbyshire, UK in 1849 with the following children all born in Mellor (Hayfield district for registration purposes):

Eliza (b.1848)
Sarah (b.1850)
John (b.1852)
Hannah (b.1854)
Charles (b.1856)
Samuel (b.1862, m.1895 + Annie Wright) my great grandparents
Thomas (b.1864)

The family lived at 'The Meadows' in Mellor where Thomas was a farmer.

I think that Thomas (born abt 1814) may have been the son of John & Sarah (?) Drinkwater but have been unable to find any census entries that corroborate this or confirm my Thomas' siblings included John (b. 1816) and George (b. 1820, d. 1821). Nor have I been able to identify Sarah (LDS suggests Sarah Marriott on 26 Jun 1810 at Glossop).

Is anyone researching families in the same area who would like to collaborate?

Karen

I would be very interested to know from which part of UK your Drinkwater ancestors originate.

Mine come from Derbyshire: Hayfield, Glossop, Chapel en le Frith, Mellor & Bugsworth (more recently renamed Buxworth).

I can reliably track backwards from NZ to the marriage of Thomas Drinkwater and Elizabeth Shirt in the Hayfield District during 1849.

I think John & Sarah Drinkwater were the parents of this Thomas (b. 1814), among whose siblings may have been John (b. 1816) and George (b. 1820, d. 1821), but I have yet to verify this.

Incidentally, I noted some years back at the Maritime Museum on the Viaduct in Auckland that Drinkwater family members were recorded on their passenger list database. These were probably your branch as the date was too early for me. Sadly, I was not researching at that time, and didn't see the need to record the information. However, it did make me wonder if there was a relationship with my family (Samuel Drinkwater and daughter Elsie Ruth Drinkwater followed later on).

There is a wealth of information available online, but even so, it's no easy task to sift through!

I'd be happy to share info - two heads are always better than one...

Karen
I'm looking for confirmation of Barbara Drinkwater marrying a Cronk. Barbara is the daughter of Albert Leroy Drinkwater (1887-1960) and Edith Gertrude Florence Ensoll (1895-1946), who married 15-Sep-1915. The Drinkwater line is off my mother's maternal line (Anguish). My mother's paternal line is Cronk, so I'm trying to get the name of the Cronk and to find out if this is another intersection of these two lines.

Thanks,
Robyn.

Hi Paula,

Just writing to see if you've received any information about the Drinkwater (Drinkwalter) family in Ontario?

I am the great-great granddaughter of Julia Anna Drinkwater, daughter of James Henry Drinkwater and Sarah Allen. I have identified about 6 siblings for Julia including Albert, Almon(d), Henry, Sumner, Ameila and Lulu.

Recently I've been in touch with Kim Rumball from Peterborough who is my 4th cousin through Julia's brother Almon(d). We've started to share some information and fill in the blanks.

What have you found out about the family? Have you discovered the surname is also spelled at times with an "L" - Drinkwalter? Can you tell me who you are related to so I can check my database?

I will be happy to share information with you. Please contact me directly.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Carol
