Robert Dunlop and Strabane Harps 1958

I am trying to name and locate any of the players in this 1958 football team photograph of the Strabance Harps team.

My late father born 1940, lived in Strabane to around 1958/60 is in the front row, second from the left.

He had brothers William, John, Walter, and sister Francis. Lived in Drumman Court, Strabane.

Any help or inquiry welcomed.

HI,

I have come across a letter that my gr-gr aunt wrote on April 9, 1876. She is in Soldier River (?) I asssume North America and she is writing home to her borther in Scotland. Her name was Jessie Duncan Cunningham and she was married to Peter Dunlop. In the letter she writes about their children, she names one as Robert. She also describes the death of Peter's brother John Dunlop. He also was living near Soldier River. He had a wife and five children. John's wife name is not mention but Jessie states she is orginally from Wales and her family has money.

I am posting this because I thought maybe someone from this Dunlop line may need the info or be interested in the letter and also I have old photos from the Cunningham family. Some of I do not know who is who.

I would be happy to share the whole letter to anyone who is interested. If anyone knows where Soldier River please reply. I found one in IOWA I not sure this is the right area though.

It is lovely to catch up with yet another relative of that line - we were in contact with jerri Linke wo I actually found on a message board and it was amazing to see how much like our family she was - we have lost the link there and not sure what has happened as she no longer replies to emails/letters etc.I wish you well with your new hobbie and shall look forward to hearing more of you and yours.

Sorry Dave - I do have ancestors called James and John Dunlop who were brothers but they were born much earlier than yours and most of my relatives come from Middlebie, Dumfries.

They lived at greenfield cottage shettleston as children. I think he had a son named John Dunlop born in 1867 he was from the londonderry are and I heard something about the Scottish/Irish thing. John Dunlop came to us via Quebec Canada through Londonderry then something about living in illionos and then Michigan with either his son or grandson of my great grandfather Earl J. Dunlop. Scotland - Dunlop & Giffen Connection

I'm looking for the connection between my Giffen and Dunlop ancestors in Scotland. My Giffen ancestors were originally from the Ayrshire, Scotland (documentation as early as 1625) until pushed out in 1638 (religious persecution). Three Giffen brothers fled: one to Ireland, one to America and one to Kintyre, Argyleshire (received protection from the Marquis of Argyle). 1st generation in Kintyre was John Giffen. Robert Giffen (b. 1743), son of John Giffen of Kildavee near Keil cemetery, married Mary Bane, then immigrated to America Big Spring, Pennsylvania in 1777, and later in 1787 migrating to Western Virginia, settling six miles east of Wheeling.

I don't know where the Dunlops intersect the Giffen's, but I know they do. When, I don't know. It was a Dunlop who brought from Ireland a cheese making process which in Scotland is called "Dunlop Cheese" - a mild cheddar cheese. Maybe the marriage happened before the persecution pushed the Dunlop's and/or the Giffen's to Ireland in 1638 or while in Ireland or after returned to Scotland??

The Dunlop cheese had stopped being made during WWII, but is being made again on the Isle of Arran. It's a great cheese if you get a chance to try it.

If you know where the Giffen's and Dunlop's intersect, please let me know.

I am researching James Dunlop and family from Middlebie, Dumfriesshire, Scotland, born 1794. He was my Great Great Grandfather and I would love to hear from other relatives connected with this gentleman. His son, also James, married Agnes Lorraine from Langholm, Dumfriesshire and had moved to Great Witley, Worcestershire, England by 1871 where they had 14 to 15 children. My mother's (Lily Louisa Dunlop) father was Robert and she lived in Wordsley, Worcestershire, now Staffordshire, UK. I (as Christine Dunlop) was born in 1941 in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, UK.

Gabriel Dunlop and spouse Catherine Hoben (sp?) were in Lower Canada by 1818 with children William, Gabriel, Catherine, Elizabeth and Sarah. Gabriel a saddler. His brother James Dunlop believed to be in the Richmond Military Settlement at same dates. 100 descendants and 8th generation still in Ottawa area.

We were very interested to read your message about the Dunlops. My name is Jonathan Dunlop from Suffolk in England and I am also descended from Peter(the shepherd) Dunlop and Jean Wood. I visited his derelict farmhouse last year. I am from their son's George's line. We actually have his portait in our lounge, we wonder if he looked like his brother Charles! Looking for anyone who may be related to Agnes Lorraine Dunlop who was born as Agnes Lorrain in Langholm, Dumfriesshire, Scotland in 1840. She married James Dunlop from Middlebie in 1860 and later moved to Great Witley, Worcestershire, UK where they had 14 children. I am hoping for help in finding information on Charlotte Rush DUNLOP from before she immigrated to NZ.

She immigrated to NZ 3rd April 1924 on the 'Dorsett' sailing from Liverpool.

The shipping log has her age at 23 so DOB around 1901.

The log also has her last address in the UK as
C/O McLachlan, 109 Whitehill ST, Donnistoun, Glasgow (Profession=Domestic)

In NZ Charlotte married Reuben Mekalick and had three children (Jean, June and Donald).

Any help on this would be great.

I am researching Nathaniel Dunlop who was a lawyer in Glasgow, early 1900's. He bought Dunlossit House on the Isle of Islay and lived there with his young family, in 1920's. Any info on his parents would be gratefull. He married Maude Marion Fitzgerald and had 3 girls and 1 boy.

George DUNLOP. 'My' George was born in Ormiston,East Lothian, (Haddingtonshire) in 1837, and died Tatura, Victoria before 1921.(1917-1918 I think). He did have numerous siblings among whom were Christina (m Walter WILSON and also came to Australia), Ann, Peter, Robert, William (m. Helen Fullerton), John, Margaret, Jane, Charles, not necessarily in that order. (Don't have details with me.) Parents: Charles DUNLOP and Christina FAIRBAIRN. Any connections? dunlopdm

I have a George Dunlop in my tree born around 135 in Dunfriesshire Scotland his parents were Peter and Maria his siblings were John Dunlop 1848 - 1921, Margaret Dunlop 1847 - 1909, Irvine Caryle Dunlop 1844 1910. None of them married or had children. Peter their father farmed as did his father. All I know of George Dunlop was that he died in Australia before 1921?

My link is via my great great gradmother who was his cousin. The family names linked with him are Craig, Bell, Irving, Gass to name but a few.

I'm still trying to find a James Dunlop b 1833 born in Coleraign lived in Shankhill was a whip maker married Margaret Morrison probably the daughter of Charles Morrison. and His father James Dunlop also a whip maker b c 1778.? married Susanna McNaght/Mcnaught they lived and are buried in Coleraign. One son John left and went to Indiana USA.

does anyone have any ideas about this family.

they had Robert, Denis, Bridget and Catherine(Kitty)

Would love to know what part of Antrim the came from.

Hi, Just read you message and I have been trying to find out about this person too. (without much success). I am newly married and am trying to find info for my husbands side of the family. I know that Nathaniel and Maud were married in England and her first 3 children were born at Seven Oaks. Her last child, a son, was born at Dunlossit.
It seems that we are researching the same line and maybe could help each other out. Any info that we find out ourselves, we could pass on to the other. Would you be willing to do this.

I recently discovered the gg grandmother I have been chasing as Martha LUST was married to ? DAVIS prior to marrying William Wade PATTERSON/PATTISON, with a final marriage to ? STRICKLAND.

With Mr. DAVIS she had one child James Franklin DAVIS b. abt 1863 in MS. By Jan 1865 she is married to William Wade PATTERSON--marriage records show WW PATTISON and Martha E. Davis, they had one child William Lee PATTERSON b. 1867 in TX. The 1880 census shows she has married once again to ? STRICKLAND, now mother of Minnie A. STRICKLAND (md. a DUNLOP), and 3 month old twins Theodore and Theodosia STRICKLAND. Later census records show two HOLMON grandchildren.
