Asa Dunn Crawford County PA

I am looking for information regarding Asa Dunn who was first married to Mary Wilson/Williams (1804?), and then to Polly Dorrell (1811). Asa's father was James Dunn, and his mother was Priscilla Langstaff Dunn, who were originally from New Jersey. Asa also had a sister, Sarah, who was married to Cornelius Van Horne. Not sure what happened to Asa's first wife but he had three daughters with his second wife. Asa sometimes spelled his name "Assa" or "Assy". Lived in Meadville area.

Hi, I wondering if you ever found a connection between Nicholas and Hugh. I am descended from Hugh and have been trying to trace Hugh's ancestry. Hugh owned land in New Hampshire as early as 1656, so I don't think the reports that his DOB was around 1640 or 1650 are correct. He also paid taxes at Oyster River NH starting in 1661. Thank you for any information.

Hi Judy
I am not sure. I have been having difficulty breaking through all the Dunn in PE. I want to be sure which one is my Great Granfather. I belive I may have found his death recently and I am working on that hoping I can tie him back to which Dunn on PE Island he is a member. Funny how they seem to change their names a lot. My great grandfather also went by his middle name of James T.Dunn placing the T in the middle. He was probably born 1858 in PE and came to the states about 1880. Let me know if you have anything further.
Kevin Dunn

Hi, my grandfather, John Henry Dunn was from Prince Edward Island, Canada. He moved out to Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. He married Jean Bruce Black. I know he had a brother that moved down to U.S.
His birth records were lost in a Church fire in Prince Edward Island. He was from a large family and had a twin brother.
I was just wondering if there is a connection somewhere in the past.

Judy

They had three older sons: (1.my grandfather, Andrew Harvey Dunn(November 10,1881-April 14, 1958). (2. Will Dunn, who at one time was living in Coradell, OK (maybe Cordell).I have a picture of him and his family while living there. This is the only information I have for him.) (3. Jesse Dunn, who went to TX, we think.)These two brothers were older than my grandfather I think.
Any additional information will be appreciated.

Linda Ott- My father was Henry O. Dunn and Lester was my Uncle. We lived at Gig Harbor before moving to Idaho in 1949. I have been trying to search the Dunn side for some time and seem to come to a roadblock at Henry Lewis. I did get all the scoop on Grandma Mary from Aunt Mary Lester's sister. I went to Anchorage this summer for Verona's 100 birthday. I recall Lester and Ginny has about 4 or 5 children. Who are your parents. One came to the reunion on Hoods Canal, Wa. and lived in Port Angeles. Billy, I believe. I don't know where Opal is now, seems since Dad died I lost track. Please let me know if you know these people. Mariane L. Dunn Evans.

Hi
I think I may have some information for you. Hezekiah Dunn and Isabella Smith Dunn were my great great great grandparents; they were married in 1865. They have many children. Here's what I have found so far--Margaret(Maggie)Yelton b. 1864 by the union of Enoch and Isabella. Maggie's name was later reflected as Dunn in the 1880 Census. I did not see any children named Lydia. Here are the children Hezekiah and Isabella had:
Katie b. 1867
Anna b. 1870 My great great grandmother
Charles b. 1873
Eunice E.b. 1875
Pearl b. 9/1880
Paul Maynard b. 1/1882
Elizabeth b. 6/1884
Earl b. 4/1887
Edna Dunn their granddaughter b. 3/1885 I don't know who were her parents.

They lived in Grassy Creek, Pendleton, KY
Looks like Isabella's parentsmay be Harvey (b. 1815) and Eunice (b. 1825)Smith and that she had two siblings Louisa b. 1839 and Dickerson J. Smith b. 1852.

Thank you. I have found Amanda Dunn's death certificate in SC which lists her father as John Dunn. Is he John Wiley Dunn? I've also found death certificate for Amanda's son John Dunn, which lists his father as John Dunn and mother as Mandie.

Searching Rootsweb, I found a tree that states that Amanda Dunn was married to John Gaines. If so, her children carried the Dunn name. What is odd to me is that in 1870, Amanda Dunn is living next to Martha Dunn Rumsey, and 1860 a John Gaines and his wife Frances are living next to Martha Dunn Rumsey. Do you anything at all about this?

Can we email directly? gwenpdowney@hotmail.com

Yes, I believe Martha Dunn-Rumsey-Bailey to be my great great grandmother.

The following comes from The Genealogy of the Dunn, Crawford, Sanders Families compiled by Monroe H. Dunn, Sr. & Elaine Dunn Barton. Copywrite 1975.

“GENERATION No. 1

Wiley Dunn

From talking with several elderly descendants of Amanda Dunn and Martha Dunn (namely Mrs. Maude Rumsey Collins, Mrs. Lessie Dunn Shiflet, both of Anderson, South Carolina, and Mrs. Annie Bell Dunn Holmes of Hartwell, Georgia) we find the following, which in part can be traced in the 1850 and 1860 Census Records of Hart and Elbert Counties.

Wiley Dunn married Matilda Holloway, born about 1800, from Edgefield, South Carolina. In the 1850 Census of Elbert County, we find that Wiley and Matilda had three (3) girls: Martha, Frances and Amanda.

We are not sure how or when Wiley died because there were several conflicting stories. We do know that Matilda stayed in Hart County with one of her children, Amanda.

In the 1870 Census of Hart county, we find Amanda with her three (3) oldest children and her mother Matilda Dunn, born in South Carolina, and listed as being 70 years old.

GENERATION NO. 2

Martha had seven (7) children, namely: Abner and Henry Dunn, and Richard, Thomas, Babe, Ann and Suzianne Bailey.

We have talked with a Rev. Marion Dunn in Athens, Georgia, and he remembers his older brothers and sisters talked about Sip Dunn. His father is Abner Dunn, brother of Henry (Sip) Dunn and his mother was Rhoda Jane Page. She is a sister to Doc Page who married Sip’s youngest daughter, Maranda Lou. Rev. Dunn also remembers that they called him Uncle Sip.

Around 1875, Henry married Katie Anne Crawford”
I believe we are all related, but they may be the children (or grandchildren of Samuel Dunn)brother of John Dunn.
My John doesn't appear in Indiana till later with Rachel Porter. Samuel's line had all the same names, but they were not living in n. Ky. at that time that I know of.Roslyn

Dunn Family in St. George, Maine - 1895 Town Census

I have no connection to this family but wanted to share this information as this would be impossible to come by and I know personally how helpful this can be. It is from the book "Vital Records of St. George, Maine". Included in there is an 1895 Town Census. In most cases they give ACTUAL birth dates AND also in most cases, they give the wife’s maiden name. Apparently they’re not all in alphabetical order, so I may be adding to this, so here goes:

p. 517

Dunn
Hugh, b. Nov 1, 1841
