Can anyone help. He was born in Sithney, Cornwall, UK. I found him in the UK Census in cornwall living with mother. He doesn't appear in the UK Census 1871. He was imprisioned in HM Prison Devises, Wiltshire 29 March 1875 for 10 years penal servitude. I have been looking for the Census for 1881 for the prison but have been unable to find it. Any help with either census will be appreciated.
Linda

HI! Seek ANY info on Eddy family of one Francis ( "Frank") Eddy who married my ancestor, Mary E. SPENCER-who was b. 1833 in Shaftsbury,VT. Mary was daughter of Charles Wright Spencer, junior & wife, Emily Huntington-both of Shaftsbury,VT.
Mary E.and Frank Eddy in 1880 US census in Bennington County,VT---which is county for Arlington,VT where Mary E. Eddy (according to mention in her father's will) was living at that time.
Also in 1880 Census it shows she has a daughter,as well as a son by Frank Eddy---son being named Charles---which could be, of course, named after Mary's father, Charles Spencer.
Charles EDDY grows up and marriesAlice nee Campbell. They married in 1899 (7/19/1899)in Arlington,VT.
Charles EDDY was son of Francis("Frank")EDDY and his wife Mary E. (SPENCER) EDDY. Mary E. was sister to my great-grandpa,Wright C.("Charlie")SPENCER.
I have much SPENCER info and OLD SPENCER pix to share and exchange w/anyone who is descended from Charles and Alice (Campbell)EDDY.
Please email me direct,if possible,at:......
dimari_@hotmail.com .... thanks ever so much- take care,
diane m. spencer
Eddy/Chaffer connection England

I am totally frustrated and seem to be at a dead end. My father's father's name is Chaffer/Chafer/Cheffer and after doing research I can only trace back a few generations to England. However, I had my brother do the paternal DNA test and apparently we are closely related to a lot of men with the last name of Eddy. The closest relation is 9 generations ago (around 250 years) but after contacting the male Eddy he either does not respond or has no info. There are other Eddy's that go back 10, 15, 25 generations, etc so the only thing I can think of is that an Eddy male was the father of a Chaffer child- maybe the Eddy male died and the Chaffer male adopted him or maybe the female had relations w/ an Eddy male and the Chaffer male accepted the child as his own. The problem is that I cannot find a connection. I believe both names originated in Wales or Cornwall, and the connection would be around 1750 in England.

Has anyone seen any records with Chaffer and Eddy neighbors? Just giving it a shot on the off chance someone has seen something.

Thanks,
Amybeth

I have an abstract of the will of Charles Eddy of Easton, NY. The will was written in 1824. Charles mentioned his wife Sarah, and also referred to "my father Leonard Cook." Was Leonard Cook actually father of Charles' wife Sarah? If not, how was Leonard Cook related to this family?

Jerilyn

Hi Megan,

My ggrandfather was Richard Eddy born 1871, he was a Gold Miner from St Just Cornwall, unfortunately I don't have proof that he was in SA..except family gossip....his father was also a Richard Eddy. He married a Cornish lady in 1898 and they had a son Richard Eddy b 1899. He does not appear on our UK census in 1901, he must have come home in 1902 as his wife got pregnant again, but he is deceased by March 1902 when his daughter Doris was born. I don't have access to SA records to find out if he died in SA though.
I do know of another family where many sons worked in SA, the parents were Richard Eddy and Sarah Trembath.
The brothers were: Richard (died 1902 Trewellard, St Just), William T , Thomas and James, and I believe they worked in a place called Germanstone, does that name fit with your family?. When their mother Sarah died in 1907, both James and Thomas were still in SA.
I believed this family to be mine at first, but it looks like Richard was single from his Will, where he left everything to his mum and siblings, no wife or children mentioned.
If this rings any bells I will try and put you in contact with a descendant of this family.

Hello Diann,

Sharon posted the request on my behalf originally.....Many thanks for the census information 1871.

They are not my family.

On the Marriage certificate for my Richard Eddy b1871 death 1902/before March 1903, of Trewellard, he states his fathers name to be Richard Eddy, a Miner.

The only family with a son called Richard Eddy b1871 and a father called Richard Eddy a Miner, points to Richard Eddy and Sarah Trembath family. They have a son of the same age, occupation (gold Miner) and death year of 1902 , but I have his Will and there isn't any mention of a wife or children at all.

I believe in those years you had to proovide for your family, the Parish would not be willing to look after them if you had money to leave at your death, which he did.

My Great grand-dad is such a mystery.
John 26 and Bessie 22 arrived Moreton Bay (Brisbane) 24/2/1883. Bessie was born 8/6/1862 in Topsham, Devon, England.

Hi Melissa,

did you track down your Eedy yet. I keep running into Eedy information while researching the Beamish and Jermyn of Toronto Gore twp, Peel Co, Ontario. They were all Anglican from Cork, and they settled in the Gore in 1830s which is where I find most of them, then around 1842 some moved to Biddulph twp, Middlesex, Ontario close to where the Jermyn families settled near Granton. A Ellen Jermyn married a Charles Eedy in the Gore, might be more links as well, but a Joseph Eedy married a Elizabeth Beamish and most of the Beamish went to Simcoe County and other near township, they spread out quite a bit after teh 1860s. So depending on where in Ontario your Eedy was from he could be descended from these families. The Toronto Gore township is quite close to Toronto and it served as a launching pad to many families. After they made some money and learned farming in Canada, they usually moved out to buy cheaper land in further township.

I am seeking any information about Mary Eddy who married Ludwick Holt in 1858, presumably Ft. Worth (area), TX. He was a confederate soldier who was captured at Chicamauga in 1863 and imprisoned at Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL. He was exchanged in May 1865, and returned to Tarrant Co. He died in 1868. Does anyone know anything about his wife, Mary?

I do not have a death date for Tabitha. I think they were from Vermont.

Any Information would be very helpful.

Thank you for your reply.

The Carlton Halleck Eddy I'm referring to was born 8 Oct, 1812 at Claredon, Vermont and died 18 Jan, 1886 at Millersburg, Iowa. His daughter Jane Mary Eddy was born in 13 Mar, 1854 in Knox, Ohio married my Great Grandfather Franklin Pierce Wagner (born in Noble county, Oh on 6 Dec 1852.) They were married on 8 Oct, 1875 at Millersberg, Iowa.

Jane Mary Eddy Wagner died 10 Dec, 1902 at Millersberg, Iowa and my mother's Grandfather, Franklin Pierce Wagner died 12 June 1932. My mother was Mildred Fern Wagner Heinen, Grand daughter of Jane Marry Eddy Wagner and Franklin Pierce Wagner. I'm their Great Grandson from Guernsey, Iowa. Herb Heinen, retired U.S.A.F.

If this is wrong, please let me know, however from the Eddy web site, and all the other Ancestry and plus sites, I think it may be right on. I don't know, if I'm wrong please let me know.

Thanks a lot. I'm retired in the Philippines and the researching here is very very limited.
Re: Richard Eddy b1871

Since writing this message, I have received the Will of Richard Eddy b1871.

He died in September 1902 leaving a gift to each of his siblings and money to his mother Sarah Trembath. There was no mention of him having a wife or son named Richard Eddy b1899.

Although my ggranfather has the exact same details as him, year of birth, year of death, place of abode at marriage,a father named Richard Eddy (a Miner), and himself a Gold Miner, I now not sure I have the correct person now.

On the UK census there is only one Richard Eddy born that year or even in close years, with a father named Richard who was a miner, so I am a a bit of a lose after receiving the Will as to my Richards parentage. Also UK incoming passenger ships appear to show him arriving too late to marry my g-grandmother by a month, and also about a month too late for him to be the father of his second child Doris Eddy born March 1903 unless it was a prem birth. Again the name Doris appears many times in Trembath family Trees I have see, but not in ours until that time.
I would be interested to learn more just in case I am related, and thank you for making contact.

To be more exact we are 2nd cousins.
I've been trying to find out find information on Philip's biological parents. Any information on other members of the Freund side of the family that you may have would be greatly appreciated. Who knows you may be my answer to a Major Family brick wall that I've been trying to break through for at least the last 15 to 20 years.

As to being related to William Hart the name does not mean anything to me, could you give me some more information on him.

Thank you for your time.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Your cousin,

Pam

According to The Genealogy of the Eddy Family printed in 1881 which I found on Google books online, the Eddy brothers, John and Samuel, sailed from London in the ship Handmaid, John Grant, Master, on the 10th of August 1630, and arrived at Plymouth, Mass, Oct. 29, 1630. John Removed from Plymouth to Watertown, Mass, 1633.

This date would make it about 10 years after the Mayflower landed, but I'm sure there were some of the original Mayflower Planters still around.

Sarah

I only research the web sites.

By the way are the Eddy's related or old friends of the Mayflower pilgrims?

Thanks for you time.

Herb Heinen
iowaherb@yahoo.com.ph

Re: Seeking information

No, no, no, this is not correct. Legrand Nofsinger was a man, and he was Elizabeth Thompson's first husband. Proof can be found in the 1850 census for Fall Creek Township, Adams County, Ill. The census shows Legrand Noffsinger and Elizabeth Noffsinger living with their son Russell Farnium (sic) Noffsinger (1) and Elizabeth's sister Louisa Thompson (16).

By the end of 1852 Legrand died, Elizabeth remarried Nash Eddy and had a son with him (Rufus Hamilton Eddy), Nash Eddy died, and Elizabeth remarried Jefferson Adams Rich, or so the story goes.

However, because so many genealogists get confused about the identity of Legrand Noffsinger and Nash Eddy - and they can't be traced - I am suspicious - and this is just speculation on my part - that Legrand Nofsinger and Nash Eddy are one and the same person, i.e., that he had to assume an alias for some reason. In part I believe this because even young Russell Farnum Noffsinger became Russell Farnum Eddy.

For more proof, in the 1856 Iowa state census we can find Elizabeth and Jefferson Reich (sic) and sons Russel (sic) and Rufus living next door to her parents, Rufus and Lucy Thompson in Dodge, Dubuque Co., IA. In 1860 census, we find Rufus and Lucy living in Auburn Twp., Fayette Co., IA next door to Samuel and Louisa Bowers; according to a Rootsweb database, Samuel Bowers married Louisa Thompson.

Lastly, the probate records for Elizabeth Rich (cse file 6147 for Linn County) identify Russell and Rufus Eddy as her sons, along with several Rich children.

My ancestor is also Jabez Eddy (1680-1752), son of Obadiah Eddy, that married Mary Rickard. What I'm interested in is Mary Rickard's parents: some sources have John Rickard and Mary Cooke (Mayflower descendant), and some have John Rickard, a cousin of this John Rickard, with unknown wife. One John Rickard was b (1652-1726) and the other b. 1657- and they both had daughters named Mary.

Robin Gann
gann@embarqmail.com

Eddy Family of Victoria Australia

Hi,

I am looking for information on the Eddys who emigrated to Australia from England in 1864. Here is where I can trace my Eddys to:

Edward Eddy born about 1793 in Cornwall married Margaret Oats in October 1813 in Cornwall. They had at least 6 children. Their son William was born about 1826 in Cornwall. William married Catherine Breakey on the 23rd of Dec 1849 in Liverpool. William emigrated to Australia sometime before 1864 and Catherine and their 2 sons William and Edward John followed and arrived in Victoria in 1864. I know that had at least one other child, Mary Jane.

William married a Danish girl named Anne Marie Jorgenson and they had at least 2 children, Anne Maria and William. From here William Jnr moved to Tasmania before a few of his descendants moved back to Victoria.

I have a bit more information but too much to put here. If you are connected to this Eddy branch I would love to hear from you. I am also hoping I will be able to find some photos of the Eddy family.

Thanks,
Lachelle
