Hi- I live in Land O' Lakes, WI where James O. Ely built a summer home around 1910. I know that he was a dentist in Winnetka, I know that he spent most of his summers up here between 1910 and his death in the late 1930s, and I know his son, Dinsmore was killed in action in WWI. If anyone has any more specific info on James or Dinsmore, then please let me know. This is an attempt to document Ely history in this community for a local history project. Thank you.

I have Elys in my tree and don't know if he's related.

Could anybody fill in dates and places for me - and the database? I'm guessing there's no marker since it was a reburial. I'll check section 7, lot 168 where he's buried with Mary A or E and Willard. I have no history on these two, either.

I do find-a-grave and will post a lot photo before the snow flies.

Because of this it is pretty safe to assume that they all at some point before their travels carried the same surname. And no one by the name Oellen can be found in Pa. subsequent to these arrivals. They are variously called Ely or Eilor.

I am searching for Henry Ely, listed in Bern Co., Pa. on a tax list as a turner, meaning he made furniture and had a lathe.
He married Christena Caterina Ketner in abt 1776 Christ Little Trinity Church at Tulpehocken. They left Pa. probably after the death of her parents and went to Va. and subsequently to Tn.
Needing to find a christening or baptismal record giving the names of his parents.

As a hobby, I rescue old photos, that have identification on them. I recently picked up two from an auction. Both were taken in Iowa.

This one has a man & woman on it, and on the back is written: Mama Mr. & Mrs. E.E. Ely. Mrs. Ely was Francis Chambers, daughter of Francis Standley Chambers and William Chambers. The person I acquired it from said it was taken in Iowa.

This has to be probably taken in the late 1800s. Very nice portrait of a serious couple.

I'd like to find family for this photo. For details, contact me at: digginroots@yahoo.com

Kathy

ELY AND DRURY - HAMPSHIRE, ENGLAND

I have Thomas Ely married to Ann Drury on 7 January 1781 in Romsey, Hampshire. Ann's father is Castell Drury of Romsey - I have no idea of Thomas's parentage but I think he was also born in the Romsey area. Any help would be much appreciated with either family as I am now stuck!! DRURY is sometimes spelled DREWERY in the mid 1700s. Many thanks. Vivian

Mrs. Eabel Ely

I have discovered a connection with my Kull family to that of the Davie family. I have a GG grandmother maiden name Elizabeth Davie, born 1870 in Mt Carmel, PA and died Sept 2 1932 in Ashland, PA. Her husband was John H. Kull. Her obituary mentions two sisters and one brother: Mrs. Eabel Ely, Mrs. Frank Campbell of Sharon Hill, and brother John Davie of Naty-Glo, PA. She had six children. I wonder if anyone has any connections here, and if so more information about the first names of the two sisters. I am mostly interested in the parents and where they all came from.

Searching for any information or clues concerning Roy Thomas Ely, possibly born on Apr 7, 1887 in Columbus, OH. He married Minnie Wolber on Oct 25, 1911 in People's TWP, Boone Co, IA. He fathered 7 kids there, and then disappeared, so we have no date of death, and I'm not even sure of his parents (possibly George Ely (born OH?) and Helen Richards Guthrie (born Sep 1862, Putnam OH)

Any clues, hints, ideas, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Bob Peterson

I tought this might be a good place to post this message i saw on the Oregon Board;

From: "Shelley Cardiel" <cardiels@comcast.net>
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Nelly ELY of Walla Walla, Washington.
The photograph was taken at the Maxwell Studio in Walla Walla, WA sometime
in the early 1900's with Nelly appearing to be in her teens or early 20's at
the time. In addition to her name, someone has also written "later Mrs.
Carl CHURCH of Portland, Oregon" on the back of the photograph.

Based on limited research I was able to find the CHURCH Family living in
Portland, OR during both the 1910 and 1920 census as follows:

1910 census:
Carl G. I am trying to fill in my family tree a bit and have very little information on Lucretia's parents, Daniel Ely and Ruhamah Turner. Lucretia and Benjamin had the following children: Benjamin, Lucretia, Daniel, Ethelinda, Betsey, Amy, Elisha, and Christopher. I have headstone pictures of the family buried in Hadley, MA, and vital records from there that I am more than willing to share. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

ELY (several different) in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA)

Ely, Dorothy Elizabeth (Dot)
Ely, Frances Louise

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes).

I extracted all of the names (& some other information) from the yearbook & have put them on my genealogy web site (total of 13 web pages, containing over 1,900 records; sorted alphabetically by surname).

The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site, not just data about the families I am researching. I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

ELY Located
Saturday Ardmoreite carried an item headed ‘Four more gold stars on Carter County Service Flag’ which included the name of PRIVATE BENJAMIN ELY in the list of missing in action. Efforts to locate his nearest of kin had been unsuccessful until the item came to the attention of a Marietta reader, M. G. NORVELL. Mr. Norvell informed Mrs. MATTYE N. After riding 10 miles on horseback, a resident of the Eastman community located MRS. ELY. Private Ely’s father, M. L. ELY acknowledged receipt of the news over telephone Sunday. Copies of the Saturday and Sunday’s Ardmoreite have been forwarded to him. Private Ely has been in France for several months.
Mary Elizabeth Bawden married Samuel Leander Ely on 22 March 1900.
I have no information on Sam's family other than he was born in Chambersburg, PA, Dec 2, 1864. When he was 9 years old he moved to Mt. Carroll, Illinois with his family (Parents?). He attended the Iowa State Normal School in Cedar Falls, IA and graduated from the Davenport Business College. He worked as a bookkeeper at the Iowa Soldier's Orphans' Home (now called Annie Wittenmyer Complex - no longer an orphan's home). Then he worked for A.J. Smith and Son furniture store and cashier at the Union Savings Bank. He suffered from TB and spent several winter months in the south where he contracted typhoid malaria. He died at the age of 39 on 4 June 1904 in the Bawden home in Davenport. They had 2 children.

Henry Ely

Henry Ely b 1810-1820, Ohio or PA (I had Solebury, PA, but THAT Henry Ely had the wrong set of children, I followed that family from PA to IL) Our Henry was married to Mary Bekke Sandoff or Standoff and had the following children:Rebecca, Henry, George, Rachel, Mary (Maria), John Melvin, Joseph, Elipheus and Sylvester.

Eventually our Eley family settled in the Pacific NW.

On the way to the Pacific NW:

I found Henry Ely and family in 1860 in Clinton County, IA and 1870 in Jackson County, Iowa.

In 1880 the rest of family including John, Mary, (mother), Rachel, Joseph, Mary, Elifeus or Elepheus and Slyvester were found in Kingman County, Kansas, on the census, but there was NO HENRY. [We thought he died in Peoria, IL, but that Henry Ely/Eley was the wrong one, That Henry was the one that started in Solebury, Pennsylvania]

SO, the mystery is WHAT HAPPENED TO our HENRY Eley?

In about 1881 Elepheus Eley/Ely married Elizabeth Jane Webb. We believe that occured in Webb City, Jasper County, Missouri. It's not known if just Elepheus Eley or the whole family was there at that time.

My husband's grandmother, Ida Maude Eley was born in 1884 in Twin Creek, Wyoming. She was the daughter of Elipheus Eley, and grandchild of Henry and Mary Ely. The story is they went to Washington/Oregon over the Oregon Trail through Naches Pass. Other children were also born on the migration.

Thanks for any help.
