Hi Patrick,
Are you the Patrick Fitzpatrick from San Diego that I have been in touch with over the last few years? I'd like to have the images of the tombstones you mention in your posting, or a transcription for my files.
We have talked in the past about you joining our DNA study. Since then, we have developed a group of nearly 20 people from Co. Cavan, and are researching their origins viz a viz the Fitzpatricks from Co. Laois. There seems to be some historical link between the two groups, pointing to a possible origin for them of Aghmacart. Although MacLysaght indicates a possible link between the Fitzpatricks from Co. Cavan and the McGuires of the Briefne Clans, I have not been able to detect any genetic relationship between the two.
When I as in Ireland in 2004, I visited Father Corrigan in Belturbet and spoke to him about the Fitzpatricks in the area. I have not been able to follow up on this, but he did give me information about local Fitzpatricks from the entries he had in his parish register. I aso spoke to the Fitzpatrick who owned the Harbor Bar in Belturbet.
If you have changed your mind about being part of the DNA study, please let me know. It would be great if you could join us as a person who knows his origins in Ireland. I'd also like to get your tombstone images in the meantime.
