I have traced back my family to William Fossey born 1792. I think his family came from France and my Grandmother always used to say we had a Count in the family! I have a very interesting photo of the Count and some Fosseys. Please contact me if you are interested Tamsin

Frederick Augustus Fossey - Surrey UK

Hi everyone

I'm looking for info for a friend, who is researching her great grandfather, Frederick Augustus Fossey. We don't know when he was born, but he died in 1919 after working for the LCC Trams as a brakesman. He was married to Ada Elizabeth Reader in 1897 and had three sons and two daughters. His eldest son, Frederick John Fossey, was my friend's grandfather. He lives in Mitcham at Figges Marsh and died in 1966.

Any info at all would be appreciated. Can't seem to trace the family back past Frederick Augustus.

This is definately her as I know the rest of the family.

The only thing I can find before that is possibly in the birth records but the DOB is 5 years out but everything else tallies and the only one I can find. I do know she was born in London.

In 1891 I find her working as a servant. Which was told to me by my granny. So I think this is right.

If anyone has any info or could possibly check for me and find her before 1891 I would be most grateful.

Thanx

Re: FOSSEY, Cyril William 1902-1950

Dear Sir/Madam,

Iwas interested in the notice which you posted with Ancestry.com, Re; Cyril William Fossey, for I am a decendant of the Fossey bloodline.
You may well be in charge of the following information, but nevertheless I felt that I had to contact you regarding your family. Here goes.....

On the 7th. April, 1910, Cyril William,( aged 8 ) along with his parents Charles William (36) and Maud Mary Fossey (35) and his siblings Cecilia Maud (13) and Ada Mary (11) set sail from Liverpool, England to Portland, Maine aboard the S.S.Canada. Their Final Destination according to the ship's Manifest was Magrath, Alberta.
Cyril and his sisters were born in the Civil Parish called Balby-with-Hexthorpe, which is near to Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England. It is to be presumed that Cyril's father and mother moved there from Little Eversden ( which is near the city of Cambridge) to look for employment on the railways, for Charles William is described as a Railway Platelayer in the 1901 Census, and they lived at No.8, Great North Railway Cottages, Corn Hill, Balby.
Charles William was born in Little Eversden, as was his wife Maud Mary. Of Charles William's parents, his mother Hannah was born in Little Eversden, but his father , John Fossey was born in Arelesy which is near Ampthill in Bedfordshire. John was an Agricultural Labourer according to the 1881 Census and at that time had three children, Charles William (6), Percy (3) and May (1). A significant proportion of the male members of the Fossey family were involved in farming, both as farm owners and/or labourers.
In the 1891 Census May is not included in the houshold list, but it could have been that she was staying with relatives that day. However another child was included and her name was Ella and she was 3 yrs. old on Census Day.
The 1861 Census has John ( father of Charles William) as a scholar of the age of 9 years, with brothers William (19) and Samuel (6) and sister Sarah (14). Their parents were called John (46) and Hannah/Elizabeth (45) and they lived at No.14 Church Ends, Arlesey, next door to another Fossey Family.

I hope this communication has been of some interest to you.

My best Wishes,

Geoffrey James Wallace
E-mail: councillor.gwallace@calderdale.gov.uk
The parents of Charles William were called
My father was Herbert Fossey ,brother of Aunt Jessie and Uncle Alex (ADH)----- My parents were divorced and I didn't get to know the Fossey family well until I was a teenager -- We visited Ada a number of times - and Aunt Jessie ,who was a sweet, sweet lady visited me a number of times - I got to know Edith well when my husband and I moved to Middle Tennessee for a few years - When she lived in Alabama-she visited quite a bit and we were very fond of her--- Have I told you more than you want to know ?????
I am from the Fossey line that escaped to England from France. My 2C1R has most of the family history on the Fossey's that migrated from England to Florida. I haven't come across a Susannah so far in my research (I've just started the Fossey connection) but she may have more information for you. If you'd like to contact me I can give you more information

thank you for your reply. i really do not know much about this line of my family, but will tell you all i know in the hope someone will connect. susannah fossey was believed to of been born within the bobells of london and moved up north were she married isaac storey who was from a well known family from lancaster. she had 2 sons george and willy. willy was my ggrandfather. isaac storey was b10 nov 1967.and died quite young. susannah then married a mr jones from cheshire and died in garston (priory street) liverpool. she is buried in allerton cemetary. there is no headstone on the grave. her family were believed to of escaped the bastille in the french revolution but i cannot find any traces. i will be so grateful for any information you could give me. and thanks again.
karen gorst
I promised to do some look-ups for her but have mislaid her e-mail address. I do have some information relating to Peter and Abraham Fossey (brothers) and their descendants. Please would you contact me off list?
Surname variants include: Fossey, Fosse, Fossee, De la Fosse, Du Fosse

My ancestors escaped from France during the French Revolution and settled in England -In fact my father came to America from England in the early twenties and went to medical school in Tennesseee - The family settled in Miami and my uncle ,.A.D.H. Fossey, was the mayor of Miami in the thirties -- A cousin ,Beverly Carr, has been contacted by someone in Dorchester who has the same great grandfather -- If you will look up Beverly under Fossey on Google , she has all the info on this part of the family -She is in England right now and plans to visit our newfound cousin --Ellen McGowan

Hi, i saw you were looking for UK Fossey's. Most of my family came from the Poplar area of London but are believed to have fled France with the Hugenots in the 19th century. I dont know of any Susannah Fossey but that doesnt mean anything. Where was she buried? Have you tried the Public Records Office web site which now has details of the 1901 census on line?

My boyfriend, Thomas Layton Reed (11-17-69)is searching for information on his mother Mildred Fossey. She was once married to Ronald Reed. She is from Kansas. We know of one deceased brother Johnston Fossey. I have spoken to his wife and she claims that his mother does not want to have any contact. Thom has not seen his mother in 16 years. He was taken into DFS custody around age 14? We are planning on getting married, and I would like to be able to tell my children about their past. I do not have any children at the present moment, but Thom has two from a previous relationship. We see the kids often and I would like to be able to tell them about their heritage, but it is difficult when no one will communicate with you. If any of this makes sense, or if you could offer a little help, PLEASE contact me. Thom has two siblings that he is wanting to find also Nathan Reed 26years?? and Amanda Reed 2years??? my email is jwoolery@mcmsys.com Thank you.

Gene: Thanks for your message. We are one
of those Minnesota Fosseys. My husband's
grandparents were Fossay's. Our son has
traced the ancestors back to my husband's
great grandfather from a village northeast
of Oslo..where the name was not Fossay or
Fossey, but Olson from Ole Erickson (sons
took the father's first name and added son
to it. So they were Erickson's originally,
from the family farm named Foseid, in Brandvold, Solor, Norway. Thanks for your
interest.
It seems a good many Fossey's come from
France. I have been contacted in the past
by some of them, but apparently there is no
family connection there.
Thanks for your offer of help.
Barb
