I am in possession of a letter written my Mae Frazier of Corning, Arkansas dated November 11, 1928 to her brother, Ben Frealy informing him of the death of their mother. It does not mention the mother by name, but I researched Clay County death records and came up with the name of Susan L. Frealy. It mentions the following family members being present for the funeral: Bob and Dora, Delta, Stanley, Frank and Etta. I'm not sure if these figures connect in your research.

I'm pretty sure he is related!

Here are SOME of my "Benjamin"s (from a QUICK search of my files). I have more on both of them, so let me know if you think there is a match.

Also, I have some others that are definitely different individuals and MIGHT be yours.

THE FIRST "BENJAMIN"...

Benjamin FRELIGH, b. 1850, d. 1931
(son of John PERRY & Catherine POLOCK)
m. "Margaret L."

CHILDREN:
George (I) FRELIGH, b. 1867?
George (II) FRELIGH, b. 1875, d. 1950?
Fred A. FRELIGH, b. 1880, d. 1962 (m. Stella BRIGGS)

I have descendant information for Fred.

This latter Benjamin shared a Great-Grandfather with my Great-Great-Grandfather, Capt. John Henry FRELIGH (b.1812, d.1885).

THE SECOND "BENJAMIN"...

Benjamin F. (Franklin?? * ) FRELIGH, b. Oct.28 1839, d. ???
(Son of Moses FRELIGH and Ann HOMMEL)
m.Jan.3 1864 to Emily BURHANS (b.Oct.2 1848)
(dau of Stephen Myer BURHANS and Catherine LINK)

Children:
Katie A. FRELIGH, b. Dec.7 1865
Eva L. FRELIGH, b. Nov.8 1867
Mineola FRELIGH, b. Dec. 29 1869
Emma G. FRELIGH, b. Oct.8 1877

This latter Benjamin IS related to me, but much more distantly.

* I remember seeing SOMETHING in my notes from long ago that makes me think THIS one's middle name was "Franklin", but I can't find it offhand. LMK if you want me to look for it.

Here are some other pieces of information that MIGHT be a match for your family tree...

I have one piece of data about a CONFEDERATE "Benjamin":
>>A "Benjamin Freely" is with the 2nd Reg, Miss. Infantry, Comp K.<<

Another tidbit that MIGHT interest you (especially since I have found several individuals who were going by their MIDDLE names in this era--that's VERY important to note!). I found an "F. FRELIGH" from this era...

>>Abt 1844, "F."s son Isaac is born in WI.<<

>>In 1848 (end of '47?), an "F. Freligh" applies for a patent on a "Marine Mill." Scientific American magazine describes him as a "Practical Miller." He shows it off at the "Fair of the Mechanics’ Institute of St. Louis, Mo." <<

>>"F. Freligh", "Isaac", Louis H., & others are on the 1850 census in St. Louis. "F." is a Miller. <<

IF this is your Freligh, then this might also interest you, since this one is definitely a relative to "Louis H." of St. Louis MO (based on the afore-mentioned census)...

>>In 1838, composer Louis Henry Freligh is born in Mechanicsville, NY.<<

>>On Feb 26, 1859 (per later obit) a "Louis H. Freligh" is born in St. Louis, MO. At this time, Louis H. (the composer) would be about 21 years old, and his son Levi H. Freligh is also born.<<

>>On Sept. 18, 1884, Louis H. Freligh marries his former housekeeper, Mary J. Early in St. Louis.<< [Composer OR the one b.1859 ??]

Wow! I just realized how mich I typed! I apologize for throwing so much at you. Let me know if you want me to look for a DIFFERENT Benjamin from those above, or if you would like more information on any of the names above.

He had four sons - Austin, James, Walter, and I think Thomas. This is just from my faulty memory of the family history - don't know if it fills in any holes for anyone.

Timothy Freely died in Hartford, Huntingdonshire, Sept 1854, his death cert stated that he was "about 50". He was listed as a Husbandman. I don't know anything else about him except that family legend has it that the Freely's came from Ballyhaunis in Co Mayo, Ireland. At the moment their is no trace of a wife. Maybe the 1841 census will reveal one but I haven't got access to it yet.

His son, Thomas, was born c1836, in Ireland according to most cenususes, although one census says he was born in Derbyshire. (They did live in Derby for a while - on the 1861 census, where the name was spelt Friely!) When Thomas died he was a "Dealer in Jewelry" on his death cert.

Thomas married Mary Wykes b: c1841 in Godmanchester, Hunts. They married in Cambridge in Feb 1858. He was 22 she was 16. On their marriage cert Freely is spelt Freelay.

They had about 10 children, all apart from Mary, were born in London. Thomas and Mary both died in Marylebone, Middlesex, in 1910, within two months of each other.

Their eldest daughter, Maria, b: Nov 1858 in Hartford, was my GGGrandmother. She married John Lincoln in Marylebone, in Nov 1880.

Any info you can give me would be wonderful. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Krithia - krithiab@yahoo.com

Dear Ann, Is your kind offer still available for a Freely genealogy. My great grandfather was from Ballyhaunis and emigrated to NY. His parents were born c. 1840 in Ballyhaunis: Patrick Freeley and Cecelia Fitzmaurice. He was Charles Freeley born Feb 8, 1864. If there is anything in this line I would appreciate this. And if so, I can fill you in on much of the New York Decendents.

Sorry! Mine are definitely German (a derivitive of "FROELICH" or "FROHLICH"). They immigrated a short time before the American Revolution.

But don't give up! I was stuck with my one "FRELIGH" ancestor until I happened across a cousin on the web. I had left lots of postings in lots of places, and the cousin was able to give me the missing pieces I needed. Later, I was surprised to find there were so many other German "FRELIGH" Cousins!

The strongest connecting points for me were in a diary written by a common ancestor of the beforementioned cousin, AND with some letters in a collection at a NY library (save yourself some time, these letters are all from my German FRELIGHs).

The point is: keep trying different things. The answer IS out there. It's probably sitting in someone's basement or some old library book right now!

Meanwhile, I do have some "FREELY"s in my database that are not mine.

Reply again and be sure to give as much exact information as you have, especially years (even approximate). I'll check through my things and see what I can find.

Good Hunting! -- Anne

Thanks so much for your swift reply. I don't think your Mark goes back far enough for me. Do you happen to have details of his ancestors? Did they come from Co Mayo in Ireland by any chance?

My maternal Grandmother, Maria Freely, was born in Hartford, Huntingdonshire, England, in 1858. Her father, Thomas, born in Ireland 1841, according to the 1881 census, married Mary Wykes, in Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire. They moved to Marylebone, London, where Mary met and married John Lincoln. Thomas's father was Timothy Freely who died in Hartford and was buried in the churchyard there in 1854 aged approx 50-54.

Family legend has it that the Freely's came over from Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo, during the potato famine. This, of course, still has to be proved.

Many thanks again for your info.

The family tree as best I know consists of my grandfather(maternal) Mark Freely. He had a brother Patrick, a sister named Cecelia (who died about 10 years ago). My grandfather died in 1945, I am not sure when his brother Pat died. Freelys were first cousins to the Flatley family, sho emigrated to the US, in Massachussetes and NJ. The Waldron branch when a Freely cousin married into the Waldron family....I never met any of those relatives, so I can't add too many details, other than I know for a fact that Sis Waldron(believe her fist name was also Cecelia, but she would have been a Flatley, not a Freely).
There are still Waldrons in NY...but there was some falling out with my branch of the Freelys, so the details I have are somewhat sketchy....
Sorry- I hope this helps.
Feel free to contact me directly at Joendeirdre@aol.com if you would like.
Deirdre Dunn

I have yet to make the actual connection. I can let you have my info, as much as I know anyway, if you'd like it.

Many thanks

I am a Freely descendent(grand-daughter of Mark Freely Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo), and often heard my grandmother speak of Celia Waldron(believe that she was called Sis) and my great uncle Tom Freely. They are the Waldrons from MA....never met them,. but know for sure that they were related to us.

Betty, I just returned to genealogical research, and saw
your post to Kevin Freely, who I communicated with back
in the 1978 time period. My Freelys, which came from
County Mayo Ireland in 1848 (via Grosse Isle, Canada)
settled in Little Falls,, Herkimer, NY in 1859, and I
have information on all of them ... no Fred. If I remember
correctly, there was a Fred in New Mexico, and possibly
on in Louisiana. Good luck in searching ... Freelys are
a terribly hard bunch to find!

Skip

I have some ancestors about that time, living in St. Louis MISSOURI, spelled "Freligh".

Some of their names are: Capt. John Henry Freligh (a merchant marine) who married Suzan Ruland and their children Elizabeth Kerr ("Lizzie") Freligh and William Violette Freligh, Louis H. Freligh (a composer), William Ruland Freligh, and others.

They kept company with the Ruland, Kerr, and Keyes families. Capt. Freligh and his family went to Brazil in 1968 and returned a few years later, only to live in Florida and California.

I would really like to hear back from you on this one, even if you think it is a long-shot, as Capt. Freligh is one that I am stuck on.

'Hoping to hear from you,
Anne Ahlert
Anne_Ahlert@Yahoo.com

I have just come into posession of a copy of a genealogical listing of about 400 individuals, all of whom are Freligh-Fraelichs or related in some way to them. The list is quite detailed
and extensive, and follows the family line back to around 1650.

I would be happy to send a copy to anyone who wishes to e-mail me a request for one, along with their physical address.

Although I am trying to put this information into a GEDCOM file, the information is so extensive as to guarantee that it will not be completed anytime soon (today is April 4, 2000). Also, there are numerous comments made in the listing about various individuals that would be difficult to transfer into a GEDCOM file.

Please feel free to e-mail me with requests for look-ups or copies.

Anne_Ahlert@Yahoo.com
