I am looking for any information on the Freeman family in the IL area. possibly Springfield or the vacininty. My Father is Vernon J. Freeman II.
Kasson Township/ Freeman family history in Michigan

Hi! One of my families decendants was Kasson Freeman who "discovered" Kasson Township in Michigan. I don't know if anyone has any ancestors of this man, but we have this side of the family history back to the Freeman castle in Ireland. I had to go to the Leelanau museum in Leland one day and for some reason hd this book with me. The curator was interested in this and copied the whole family history.
So, to make this a tad shorter, the history and the family tree is at the museum.
Melissa

Freemans of Finedon

Hi

I have traced back my Fathers family, the Freeman's and they seem to have a long history in Finedon, Northamptonshire. I was wondering if anyone has any links with my family or has come across any records or photographs relating to the Freeman family? There is a rumour that the family once owned a manor house in the town but so far I've found no evidence of this

The following members of my direct family lived in Finedon, I'm sure there are others, their children and siblings but I've only been researching my Great Grandparents at the moment not the extended family
Great-Grandfather Earnest James Freeman, born in Finedon in 1882 and lived there until WW1 (which is when my family ended up in Southampton). He was a shoe finisher until the war broke out.
Great-Great Grandfather Charles Freeman was born in Finedon in 1854 and lived there all his life. He was an Iron Miner (my research tells me there were lots of Iron Quarry's in the area).
Great x 3 Grandfather John Freeman was born in Finedon in 1821 and lived there all his life
Great x 4 Grandfather William Freeman was born in Finedon in 1792 and lived there all his life

Hoping someone has any more information to enable me to build up a better picture of my ancestors lives

Thank you

Louise

Freeman -Pope Arkansas

Well here it is 2008 and so I'll start a New Thread. Most of you that have posted through the years no long have those email addresses, so I am starting anew.
I live in California. I am researching the Moses Freeman born in Arkansas line abt 1848-1850. I am planning a Website for this lineage of the Freemans'.
Much info has been put out regarding Moses Wineburg Freeman married to Minerva Ann Hobbs, 2nd marriage Mary Ann Dunlap. I have some conflicts with some of the info that is currently on the internet. I would like to correct it and update it for generations to come.
I am going back through the records because we have much more info than we did back in 1979. I am looking for PROOF. So what I am searching for is actual records that state the facts ie; Birth records, marriage, death, War, letters, and anything besides Census which I already have access to.
You may reach me direct at alicepierson@prodigy.net. Please put Freeman in your subject line as to not go to spam mail.
I am a decendant of Julia Ann Freeman. My only proof of Moses Freeman is the information given by her oldest daughter on her death certificate, and other children that remember the same name. Julia living out her life in California, she was only in touch with Arkansas family through letters. No records reflect her as Julia Ann except after her marriage in 1891 resident of Freeman, Pope, Arkansas. Her siblings are accurate to the 1880c and 1900c. This is where I have to work from. We have already compiled and finished her husband's side of the family. We will be holding a Reunion in Modesto California come Oct 2008. We would like to have our tree as complete as possible by that time.
Your help with this project will benefit us all, and who knows who we will meet along the way. Many cousins I'm sure.
On my ToDoList:
I would like to find Minerva Ann Hobbs decendants.
I would also like to have any records and proof regarding M. Freeman b.abt1850 -born in Ark.
1880c married to Mamerey Is this Minerva? A nick name?
Siblings:
John Henry b. abt 1864(Henerey on 1880c) Allen,Pope,AR
Isaac Jackson b. abt 1870
Rhoda J. (Julia Ann aka Julie) b.1873
Rachel b. abt1877
Celia b. abt 1879
Lulu "Lou" Freeman-Cochran b.abt 1883 (I have found ggd's)
Metsia b. abt 1883
Arlina b. abt 1887
William A. b. abt 1889
James M b.abt 1892
------------------------------
Children with Mary Ann Dunlap
Emmeline b.abt 1899
Bertha M b. abt 1903
Martha A L. b. abt 1906
Omar W. b. abt 1908
Rebeckah b. abt 1911
Wiley A. b. abt 1912
Charley E. b. abt 1915

Residences:
1880c Allen, Pope Ar
1900c Freeman, Pope AR
1910c Freeman, Pope AR
1920c Allen, Pope AR
1930c Martin, Pope, AR
----------------------------------
Have followed Census back to 1810 Bunscombe, NC

Gathering information mode.
Thanks to everyone for all your previous information.
I hope this will bring enthusiasm back to the search.

Alice alicepierson@prodigy.net

Sarah Freeman: Child Killer

The following press reports appear in the "Newport Pagnell Gazette", relating to events in the north Buckinghamshire village of Lavendon, in England:

(i) 30th November 1878: "Cutting a child's throat.-Sarah Freeman was brought up in custody of Inspector Hall, on Wednesday, at the magistrate's chamber, Newport Pagnell, before Rev.Joseph Tarver, charged with cutting the throat of her son, Joseph Haryy Freeman, an infant twelve months old, with a table knife on the previous Monday, and was remanded for a week to see the result of the injuries. We have since learned that the child died on Thursday. An inquest will be heard tomorrow (Saturday) ..."

(ii) December 7, 1878: "A coroner's iquest was held on Saturday morning, at 'The George Inn' before John Worley, Esq., Coroner, and a respectable jury, the Rev.W.Soames (vicar), foreman, to enquire into the death of Joseph Harry Freeman, of Lavendon. The evidence was the same as that adduced before magistrates at Newport Pagnell on Monday, and reported in another column, and after hearing which the jury returned a verdict of 'Wilful Murder' against Sarah Freeman."

(iii) December 7th 1879: "Sarah Freeman, of Lavendon, was indicted for the wilful murder of her child at Lavendon, on the 25th November last. ... the trial will take place next assizes."

However, I can see no record in the press of this trial taking place. Does anybody know anything about it? .. or about Sarah Freeman? If they do I'd love to hear.

Am trying to find information about John Freeman born c 1800 and married to Sarah (nee Edmonds) they lived in Lambeth and had three children Margaret, John and Henry. They married on 14 Jan 1834 at St Mary's Lambeth. in 1851 it appears John Freeman was possibly dead as Sarah is mentioned as a widow. Anyone with any info about him (he was an artist) would help as I am trying to establish when he died. Have only found two deaths listed in Lambeth and they seem a little early - 1838 and 1837. Henry was 6 months old in 1841 (born blind). Please if anyone can help I would be so very grateful grateful. Can't seem to find anyone looking for this family.

Yvonne Walsh

FREEMAN, Ed. W. - Medal of Honor Recipient - Vietnam

Freeman, Ed W.
(November 1927 - August 20, 2008)

Rank and organization: Captain, U.S. Army, Alpha Company, 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). Place and date: Ia Drang Valley, Republic of Vietnam, 14 November 1965. Entered service at: Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Born 20 Nov. 1927, Neely, Greene County, Mississippi. Captain Ed W. Freeman, United States Army, distinguished himself by numerous acts of conspicuous gallantry and extraordinary intrepidity on 14 November 1965 while serving with Company A, 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). As a flight leader and second in command of a 16-helicopter lift unit, he supported a heavily engaged American infantry battalion at Landing Zone X-Ray in the Ia Drang Valley, Republic of Vietnam. The infantry unit was almost out of ammunition after taking some of the heaviest casualties of the war, fighting off a relentless attack from a highly motivated, heavily armed enemy force. When the infantry commander closed the helicopter landing zone due to intense direct enemy fire, Captain Freeman risked his own life by flying his unarmed helicopter through a gauntlet of enemy fire time after time, delivering critically needed ammunition, water, and medical supplies to the besieged battalion. His flights had a direct impact on the battle's outcome by providing the engaged units with timely supplies of ammunition critical to their survival, without which they would almost surely have experienced a much greater loss of life. After medical evacuation helicopters refused to fly into the area due to intense enemy fire, Captain Freeman flew 14 separate rescue missions, providing life-saving evacuation of an estimated 30 seriously wounded soldiers -- some of whom would not have survived had he not acted. All flights were made into a small emergency landing zone within 100 to 200 meters of the defensive perimeter where heavily committed units were perilously holding off the attacking elements. Captain Freeman’s selfless acts of great valor, extraordinary perseverance, and intrepidity were far above and beyond the call of duty or mission and set a superb example of leadership and courage for all of his peers. Captain Freeman’s extraordinary heroism and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ed_Freeman

Congressional Medal of Honor Society: http://www.cmohs.org/

Does anyone have information on James Freeman who married Jincy Whitehorn in Sussex Co., Virginia on 5 Feb 1801. He was enumerated on the 1810 Census:

1810 Sussex Co., Virginia Census: 1 male under 10, 1 male 10-15, 2 males 16-25, 1 female under 10. The three older males are probably from a previous marriage, the children under 10 years would be those of James and Jincy.

Census search in 1820 was not successful. There was a Jenny Freeman household enumerated in 1830 Sussex Co.

A Madison Co., AL 1850 census lists a FREEMAN family with the head of the household being a J. or I. W. FREEMAN. His wife's name was Anne (I believe) and their only son was named William, 17 yrs old at the time. They had five or six daughters as well. (We are interested in the son William.)

Anyway...I would like to get in touch with anyone who might know about this family and where they went, who their descendants are, etc. Did the family ever move to Mississippi?

If anyone can shed some light on this AL FREEMAN family, please, contact me.

Thank you,
Rhonda Fremen-Young
Oklahoma
rj_fremenyoung@hotmail.com

Looking for Ancestry of MISSISSIPPI FREEMANS through JOHN FREEMAN

Searching for the ancestry of Lawrence FREEMAN, b. abt. 1837. I have an 1850 US Census record from Franklin County, GA where Lawrence is listed as female but if you look at the record there is an M next to the name not an F. The parents are listed as John FREEMAN, b. 1800 and Elizabeth FREEMAN, b. 1798. His siblings are Paulina, b. 1827; Melvina, b. 1836; Frances, b. 1849. The record shows that Lawrence and Frances were born in Alabama and Paulina and Melvina were born in GA. It appears that Paulina is married and has a 4 year old child named Mary but I cannot read the last name. There is also another possible sibling who no longer lives at home, David FREEMAN, b. 1821.
I have an 1860 Census Record for a Lawrence FREEMAN, b. abt 1835 and married to Martha M. b. 1827. The family lives in Pontotoc, Mississippi. One of their children is Willis P. FREEMAN, b. 1866 - who I believe is my GG GF. I know my G GF is George Washington FREEMAN, 18 NOV 1878 in MS. who was the father of Ralph GOODMAN FREEMAN, 23 AUG 1898, MS, my maternal grandfather.
Do any FREEMANS out there have information on this family and if so, can you help me fill in the gaps? Another family member had Willis’ father as Hudson Freeman but I cannot find any census records for this person at all although he shows up in Ancestry Trees but I cannot make a connection to him with the information I have.

Thank you.

Freeman in Edgefield SC>Cherokee AL

My ancestors, Mary Martin and James Freeman lived their lives in the area of Edgefield Dist, SC. The widowed Mary is found living with a Freeman family in 1850. I am quite sure that the head of household is one of her sons. He was born ca 1814. The census is written so that his first name is subject to interpretation. Mary's estate mentions a son whose name was transcribed as Henry at one point and as as Leroy in another document. I'm pretty sure this is one and the same man she was living with in 1850. I find this family in Cherokee Co AL in 1860 and the first name is either Young G or Yancy . The wife is Martha- the children are Thaddeus (or Thomas?), Atticus, Marcellus James, Mary Jane, Susan and Liberty. I feel sure Young/Yancy is the son of Mary and James Freeman and is the son listed as Henry or Leroy. Can anyone shed any light on this family?

I find Atticus served in CSA in Co, B. 31st Alabama Infantry. Thaddeus is in Township 10, Cherokee, Alabama in 1880. Other than these 2 sightings, I can't find this family after 1860. It would sure help to know what that given name is.

Freeman m Harriett Thomas Greenwood

I am descended from John Greenwood and Harriett Thomas. John died in Rusk County, Texas in 1853, leaving her a widow at ca 38. She married Tyre Freeman in Rusk county. He was much younger than she, but she outlived him. Tyre died in Alton, Illinois in prison during the Civil War on Nov 9, 1864. Harriett and Tyre had a daughter Mary J. who apparently did not live to adulthood. Mary was b in 1859.

I am interested in finding more about Tyre, such as where he came from. From his CSA records, I know he was born about 1832, since his records say he was 30 in 1862. Is there any one who can help fill in the blanks about Tyre Freeman?

Lolene

Why did my great grandfather leave Webster County, Missouri during the War Between the States when his son and my grandfather was a volunteer in the calvary for the Confederate states? Why did Bazil Davis Freeman go to Shelby County, Illinois? Was he related to this Freeman family?

We have recently learned that our Freeman line is Native American -- Haplogroup “Q1a3a”.
Have any male descendant of the James/Mathew Freeman line submitted their DNA for testing and if so, what were the results.
Information from: Eileen Bridges [eileenb@consolidated.net]
Comments: This record can be found at the County Court Records, Film # 1008065 - 1008066 & 1009139.
From "Inscriptions of Shelby county, Illinois Cemeteries" by Ed Boedecker, Volum IX
Buried in William Price Cemetery, Oconee Twp, Sec 35, located about 5 miles southeast of Oconee, IL.
James Freeman - Pvt Ill Mtd Vols Black Hawk War - January 20, 1871
[then listed in the compiler's note with this is - mar Polly Price, a sister of Wm Price, listed on vet grave reg as pvt Houston's Co 3 Brig]
Listed next was:
Matthew, husband of Mariah J. Freeman - Died Mar. 30, 1963 - Aged 37years 4months 4days
[then added note - a Matthew Freeman listed as 1st Lieut Co F 115th Ill Inf, died Mar 30, 1863, in muster roll Page 114 of 1881 Comb History of Shelby & Moultrie Co's Ill]
No tombstone listing was found for Mariah.

Then in the Shelby Co. Historical/Genealogical Society Publication, "Administrator Records, Book B, 1865-1871] is:

Freeman, Mariah J. - Pg 34
died 26 Mar 1866
died intestate
heirs, Elisha, Francis, Celia, and Ardilla Freeman
appt adm. Milton J. Jones
Principal, 3-31-1866
Security, William Woolard & Edwin A. Boaz

From this record, one would assume that Mariah J. Freeman died without a will, possessed with property and heirs were probably under age, making necessary guardianship. The administrator always had to have a bond secured with individuals as named. It would look as if this took place immediately.
This cemetery sets very close to the Fayette Co., Il line and you might want to check that county for some Freeman records also.
Do you think Matthew and your ancestor could be brothers?
In the Society's publications were these two in indexes, no further info regarding heirs:
Probate Bk 6, pages 601-606 - Matthew Freeman
Probate Bk I, [not 1 but "I"], James Freeman, deceased estate adm. M. J. Ones, pg 23, final settlement of estate - apparently heirs were not listed as a ? is in place of heirs.
In this same book was a listing for:
Freeman, Francis M., Elisha and Celia A., minors - pg 130, guardian, Wm. Woolard
Freeman, Nancy E. and Polly J., minors, pg 134, guardian Edmund A. Boaz
Freeman, Ellen and Elizabeth, minors, pg 184, guardian, Thomas Freeman

Hopefully some of this helps. Good Luck in your search.
I trying to find information on this family. They are listed in the 1910 census in Polk Co., GA. Jessie Brown Freeman is my Great Grandmother, but I don't know if this is the right family, but it does fit her birthyear. I know that she had a brother, Will and a sister, Wynetta (sp). I was told that Jessie's grandmother ran a boarding house around the Rome, GA area. I would appreciate any info that would help.
