I am searching for links to my great-grandfather, John H. Germain, born in French Canada in 1855. He emigrated to the US in 1869, marrying Emma Scothon Walker from Lee, New York. They were married in Camden around 1875 and lived in Lynn, Mass., also Olean, New York. Emma gave birth to four children: Wilfred Anthony, who at age 4 and again around age 40, was listed on the Census and Draft Regn. in 1917 as partially paralyzed. The second son, Harry, may have died young...he disappeared from the Census after 1880. The missing 1890 Census would answer some questions here. Their daughter, Maude, married Louis Chadwick and had twins, Mervyn, whose nickname I believe was Buster, and Myrtle. Ernest Stanley, my grandfather was born on leap year, 1896, in Olean, NY, and married Mary Evelyn Beilman, in Buffalo, NY, in 1917 or 18. I am at a loss for tracing John H. Germain into Canada...have no idea where he was born there, only that he was probably a Baptist and not a Roman Catholic. On the other hand, Wilfred listed his surname at one point as St. Germain. John worked for about 15 or more years for the General Electric Co. in Mass. before he died in the flu epidemic, Jan. 1918. Please respond to carolbruner@cox.net. Thanks!
