My grandfather was Henry Jarvis Gilmore who moved to Georgia in the early 1900s. He had an uncle Henry Gilmore who lived in NC (near Raleigh/Fayetteville) and lived to be 110. If Henry had children, they would probably be late 80s by now. If anyone has information that you think would be helpful, I would appreciate it.

Hello,

I am Don A. Gilmore, great-grandson of Allie Moe Gilmore. I ran across your inquiry as my father and I were doing some tracing of the family.

Allie was my grandfather's mother. We have numerous pictures of her both young and old. She is buried here in Kansas City in the Elmwood Cemetery along with her husband Harvey Lemuel Gilmore.

We just recently found out (yesterday) that her actual name was Martinussen. It was written on a photo all along in Norwegian. A Norwegian penpal of mine translated the note for us.

Let me know if you get this and I can send you more information, including some scanned pictures of her.

Hi Kelly. My name is James Gilmore and my family have strong County Mayo roots. I grew up in a small village called Brickens which is situated between the towns of Ballyhaunis and Claremorris in County Mayo. My ancestors were Millers since the late 1600's and started running a mill business circa 1838 in Brickens when my great grandfather (also James Gilmore, who we believe came from a family of 7 brothers) moved there from near Glenamaddy in County Galway. Do you have any idea where in Mayo Edward was born? I do have family tree records which show a John Gilmore born in Brickens around 1855.

I am hoping someone can help with my search for an Edward Gillmore. It is a big mystery as to where he has gone.
He was born in County Mayo, Ireland about 1857.
He married an Ellen Morris in 1878 in Walsall, England. His father was named as John Gillmore
On the 1881 census he was living with his wife and two children, John and Margaret, in Walsall.
In 1891 census they were in the same situation but with another son James. He died in Dec 1891.

According to family stories, Edward and his son John went to America sometime after 1891. There was talk that Edward was stabbed after he intervened in a fight.
Ellen was supposed to follow Edward to America but her mother Bridget had a bad crossing from Ireland and did not want to go. Twice Edward was supposed to have sent money for their trip but they stayed in England.
His daughter Margaret tried to trace him in the years after but had no luck.
On the 1901 and 1911 census Ellen is still listed as married but there is no sign of her husband.
Only on her death certificate was she listed as the widow of Edward Gillmore.

Does anyone have any connection with this family or any ideas on how to find them?
Thanks
Kelly

Am believing that the QUELL families of Clinton Cnty, MO, are related (at least cousins) to Phillip QUELL & Catharine MUENKER (nee, QUELL) of Ashland, PA.

Joseph & Augusta Smith QUELL's son, George, was brn in Ashland, PA, as was son Lewis (1865-1925). Other children, perhaps.
Aside from finding the Quell (of Kuhr Hessen) in Ashland & Pottsville, PA, I also found Catharine QUELL Muenker's son, George MUENKER, in Clinton Cnty, MO. He is buried at St. Munchin's, where we find many of the QUELL family; his birth date (just the year) matches the records from the church in Ashland, PA. There, he must have married Anna HEFFRON, & had 2 children.

Would like to hear from Don Gilmore regarding this. Thanks.
labor74@optonline.net

Leigh Gilmore (1960-2010)

Leigh Gilmore dies at 50; advocate for the disabled

She was rescued from a New York hotel on 9/11, just as the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed on it.

By Trevor Jensen
January 2, 2010
Copyright © 2010, The Los Angeles Times

Leigh Gilmore, whose dramatic escape from a New York hotel during the 9/11 attacks was told in a September television documentary, leading to a poignant reunion with her rescuers, died Dec. 19 at a Chicago hospital of complications from multiple sclerosis, said her mother, Faye. She was 50.

Gilmore was diagnosed with the disease 20 years ago and for several years had been getting around with a wheelchair.

In October, Gilmore and her mother met Arnulfo Ponce and Gregory Frederick for the first time since their paths crossed in Manhattan on Sept. 11, 2001.

The Gilmores were staying at the Marriott World Trade Center Hotel, in the shadow of the twin towers. When the planes that had been hijacked by terrorists hit the buildings, the women were trapped on the hotel's dark and smoky fifth floor, Gilmore in her wheelchair and her mother refusing to leave her side.

They were saved by happenstance. Ponce, the chief building engineer, had been called the day before because of a broken shower grab bar in the Gilmores' room. He told his colleague Frederick about Gilmore, suggesting he check in on her.

Frederick made his way to the fifth floor and got them out of the building just as the south tower collapsed on the hotel. Everyone was separated; Gilmore and her mother reconnected hours later.

The two hotel workers spent years wondering what happened to the two women. In September, Frederick saw the women on the History Channel documentary called “Hotel Ground Zero.”

A quickly arranged reunion took place in October at Faye Gilmore's high-rise home in Chicago.

"She was just thrilled to see them. It was a joyous thing," her mother said.

Gilmore's experience in New York added fresh spark to her advocacy work on behalf of the physically challenged, said her friend Maureen Linehan Howard, who also has multiple sclerosis.

For many years, Gilmore was active with the Greater Illinois chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. After 9/11, as Chicago was reviewing its disaster preparedness plan, she argued passionately for provisions to protect the disabled in emergency evacuations, Howard said.

Born in Australia, Gilmore grew up in Hong Kong, Japan and the Philippines as the family followed the career of her late father, Harry, an executive with Amoco.

After graduating from Michigan State University, she worked in the travel and hospitality industry.

In addition to her mother, Gilmore is survived by her brother, Peter.

Hi, I just learned "my" Ella/Ellen Gimore, last name, prior to marriage. She was married c.1886/7, lived in PHilly (don't know the ward, offhand) married Mr. Vandegrift,
had two children, and died 1896/7, presumbably in childbirth, but not sure. Her daughter, lived until the 1950's, and I have a relation named after her. She was the first wife of my greatgrand. Hoping to at least learn her parents names, date of birth, and siblings, if any. Her husband did work in the textile industry, if that helps or rules out anyone......or a connection.

not sure, however, Ella/Ellen Gilmore, was living in Philadelphia, married Mr. Vandegrift, had two children,
son and daughter, and died in 1896/7, presumably in childbirth. She was the first wife of my great grand.
Was hoping to at least learn her parents names, and date of birth,by a collaberative relative. I believe her son, committed suicide in the 19teens, and her daughter lived until the 1950's. I have a relation who was named for her daughter..........if this might sound familiar....she was 27 at death........

There is only oral information from my grandmother Annie Wade Ryno. She said that my grandfather, Sam Ryno, named my mother, Janie, for Thomas Henry Ryno's first wife.

Annie stated that the first wife's name was Janie Marie Gilmore and that my mother's name was Janie Mae. T. H. would have had to marry her after the census in 1870 and before August 1873 when he married Nancy Isabell Williams. Also her death would have had to occur not too long after their marriage.

In the Prairie Grove Cemetery, there is a stone close to T. H. and Nancy with the name Jane scratched on it. It belongs to her.

Hello Jennifer,
Thank you so much for your email about GEORGE GILMORE my second cousin. Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner but I have been away then not too well.
I would love to know more about GEORGE, I met him a couple of times when I was very young, but living at the time in the UK, we didn't see a lot of our relatives.
You wouldn't happen to have a photo of him that you could attach to my email which is disce50@clara.co.uk as I don't remember what he looked like. I remember more of his aunts my Great Aunts 2 of who lived in Hillside Terrace, (Now Thornmanby Road ) Aunt Ollie (Olive) and Hatty, (Harriett)Angus. who ran a little tea shop in Howth. My Dad Georges Cousin was born and brought up in Howth.
Please get back to me.
There is a gentleman in Dublin who I believe has a lot of Georges papers and belongings and is going to put them in Dublin Museum at some stage. I would dearly love to see some of them.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Heather,
Worthing,West Sussex,UK
