I have traced my wife's family back to James Goobey and Elizabeth Barrow married Ely Holy Trinity 4 Feb 1782.

The spelling of the name seems to include Goby, Goobie, Gooberry and other variations.

Most of the family stayed in the Ely area, although I have traced some to the East End of London in the 1880's.

I would be happy to share what I have

Regards

Terry

Hi to you all,
I am one of the few researching the Gooby family here in the UK. (My mothers maiden name). It seems the name is of more interest on the states side of the water!

As you all prob know, the name seems to originate from a small part of Cambridgeshire, UK. With links into surrounding counties like Suffolk, Norfolk, etc.

I live in Norfolk myself, but all the Gooby names that i know of, aunts/uncles/cousins etc are living in East London or Essex.

If anyone needs any help with research in the UK, i will be glad to offer my assistance.
