Gorman DNA Project

Hello fellow Gormans,

I am the administrator of the Gorman DNA Project. This project is an invaluable tool to help people bearing the Gorman surname (or any of its variants) to discover new family connections, confirm existing connections, and to potentially dig far deeper into the history of your lineage than is possible to do with paper records. As this project focuses by nature on paternal male lineages (the testing traces the Y chromosome, which is only passed on from fathers to son), it is perfectly suited to tracking the Gorman surname from generation to generation.

I have personally used DNA testing with great success to locate new Gorman relatives who I never would have discovered by any other means. DNA testing can also help you discover kin whose ancestors may have originally borne the Gorman surname, but the name has changed for one reason or another over the centuries (this is a far more common occurrence than most people realize!). These people are every bit as valid ancestors as the ones who are currently named Gorman, and can be extremely difficult to trace via other means.

If you are a male Gorman, or have a male relative (a father, brother, uncle, or cousin) bearing the Gorman surname (or have reason to believe that a male paternal relative once bore the Gorman surname), then you are most welcome to join the project. There is a substantial discount for DNA testing through the project.

You can learn more about the Gorman DNA Project by visiting the following website, and then use the "Click here to order a DNA test in the Gorman Project" link at the very bottom of the home page, if you decide that you'd like to join:

The testing is done by the Family Tree DNA, which is the lab with the largest database of DNA records in the world, and the lab that most serious genetic genealogy researchers use. I do not work for this lab or receive any monetary compensation from them, so please be assured that this is a fair and unbiased statement!

If you have any questions about the testing process or about DNA testing in general, please feel free to contact me, either through this forum thread, or through my e-mail link on the bottom of the project website.
