I believe my Granville's are the same. I have them going back to the mid 1800's. My great great grandmother was Annie O'Donoghue who's Dad was John. She married Michael Granville from Ballyaglisha. Michael and Annie had several children, Michael, Robert, John, Sara, and Mary, (My great grand mother, she married William Adams from Dingle). I believe it was Robert that stayed in Ireland to tend the farm and the others came to the US. If any of this connects, let me know and we can figure out any missing links.

I just got back from Ireland and found the same house that i have a picture of with my great uncle Joseph Granville standing in front of in 1947 with a caption owned by ten generations of Granville's, Ballyaglisha, Ireland. Ballyaglisha is only about a km from Ballyferriter. It was very exciting to have found it. we drove around a bit and asked a few people before we found it. Also found a grave stone in the cemetery with the name Grainbhil

Would SKS be willing to do a lookup for me in the following book:

The history of the Granville family, traced back to Rolo, first Duke of Normandy : with pedigrees, etc.

by Granville, Roger

I'm interested in learning the history of the Granville Hotel in Ilfracombe, North Wales. Is mention of the hotel made in this book? I know the hotel was in operation when the book was published in 1895. Does anyone have access to this? It's available from the LDS Library as:

FHL BRITISH Film 990038 Item 1

Thanks in advance for your help!

-JD
---
Jonathan Dick
Washington, DC USA

Hello Kevin: Re your messages of Dec 2 & 8 , 2001. I rec. 2 new mess. on my Wilson family, both with attachments, but I was not able to retrieve yours. Would appreciate your attempting to send same again or forward a paper copy
advising.
Have you ever tried to obtain the book "History of the
Granville Family " by Roger Granville - pub. in 1895?
For your info. there is a lady named Betty Meischen who has done extensive researching , along with others, on the Granville/Grenville family and has tied her research to a ship Captain in the famous Battle of Trafalgar with the Spanish Armada.See her query of 9 Jan. 2001 about Benjamin/George Granville - England- but she appears various times on the message listings. Are the Granvilles of Maine & New Brunswick just a small offshoot of the family? What history of the family do you have of your branch and where did they come from?
Best regards to all

Orville Wilson.
E-mail < ovwilson@nb.sympatico.ca

Hello Kevin: Re your mess. 2 Dec. 2001 regarding your parents knowing Mary Brock. Yes, Lois is a sister of Mary.
Re your mess. of 11 Jan.2000 with regard to Thomas Granville. Have a look at the 1861 Canada census for Queens Co. New Brunswick, Waterborough Parish - pg. 3.
Thomas Granville b. 1838 is a brother of your ggrandfather David Odbur Granvville.
How far back beyond John Granville have you been able to go? Where & when did they come from & on what boat did they arrive and date.
Would appreciate receiving your descendancy chart as well Possibly this has been settled before now but I have some info. I only see your first name.
I am doing this research on behalf of my elderly aunt Lois Elma (Granville) Wilbur here in Moncton, N.B. , a daughter of Duncan Granville, another brother of your ggrandfather David Odbbur Granville.
Regards.

Orville Wilson ovwilson@nb.sympatico.cWwwwisona

I am tracking a Granville family whose eldest ancestor appears to be Magnus F. Granville, born in Sweden in 1814 and who married Kierste also born in Sweden. They had at least two children born in Sweden, Andrew F. Granville born about 1853 and Charles F. Granville born about 1859.

The family imigrated to Lucas County, Iowa and Andrew married Emily Anderson. Andrew and Emily's children:
Minnie Ellen born abt. 1884 married Fred Morgan 1916
Carl David born abt. 1889 married Beth Prybl (??) 1925
Nellie born abt. 1897 married Merrill Overton 1920
Two other children died at a young age and without marrying, and son George married later in life and died without having any children.

If you know of any information on these families please contact me. Thank you very much.

The Grenville family were very powerful in the 1500's in Cornwall. Sir Richard was sheriff in 1576. Ther home was Buckland Abbey, and Stowe, their great mansion near Kilkhampton in north-east Cornwall. They might hve come with William the Conqueror, they married into wealth, Thomas was made Esquire of the Body to King Henry VII., also served as Sheriff of Cornwall. One daughter married Arthur Plantagenet, a bastard son of Edward IV, the last Yourkist King. They sold the Abby to Sir Francis Drake in 1580. One sailed with Drake in the Armada. There is much written about this famous family. Go to the library and look under British.
