I am one of Thomas Hobart's many great relations, I have even further back, was he the one burned at the stake? In 1409?

Barbara,

Several Trees say Thomas Hobart, s/o Myles married Audrey Hare - unlikely. That marriage is researched by others (I am told) to be a different Thomas Hobart.

The time frame of 1409 that you mention is most certainly "off" quite a bit - his mother Eleanor Blaverhasset/Hobart was born on 1507.

This Thomas married Helen Winsofar - they are the Hobarts of Great Snoring - HOWEVER, contrary to the family's firm opinion (and records), I have noted this offering from an Ancestry Board posting:

"Our edition of Fox’s Book of Martyrs lists both Thomas Higbed and Thomas Hubbard. Higbed was burned at the stake in 1555 in Essex whereas Hubbard was merely driven out of Mendelsham with others in 1556."

[ Perhaps the family "baled him out" and 'Higbed' guilt was part of the deal - who knows? Perhaps some reader might care to follow that thread of the past?]

A number of researchers (including Julie Morris who is exceptionally well versed in the Hobart history, and can be helpful) insist that Thomas the Martyre is NOT of the "Great Snoring" branch of the family, which in fact may ultimately prove to be correct.
Unfortunately, it is the "Snoring group" themselves, (who presumably have the best records), who refuse to partake in any discussion to review the history of the matter beyond their current conclusions.
Such also was the perceived response (perceived by me) from that "school of thought" regarding aspects of the family Blaverhasset/Blenerhasset - my "direction of research" eventually turned out rather well descpite the lack of assistance from those certain parties!

The Thomas Hobart who married Audrey Hare was of Plumstede Parva, Norfolk.

Also, Thomas and Audrey had only two sons, Miles and Henry, whose descendants remained in England for several generations.

They are not the parents of James Hubbard. Thomas, husband of Audrey Hare, was not from the family that remained in Suffolk.

Also, Eleanor Blaverhasset/Blennerhasset, was most probably born earlier than 1507, since her father, John, is documented to have been born in 1423.

Actually, there is substantial doubt that James Hubbard was related to the Hobarts at all.

I had often thought that old John Blaverhassett (or Blennerhassett if you wish) must have been quite a stud, what with his having a daughter at 80 years of age!
Intrigued (jealous?) I did a bit of research and the essential results are:

John Blaverhassett b:1434 m; Margaret Jayne (or Jayne) Heigham the d/o Thoamas Heigham & Isabel Fraunceys
their children were:

Thomas Blaverhassett b:abt 1452 m: Jane Sutton 1424-1427
Their children:
John 1493 m: Elizabeth Cornwalys b: 1510-17
Their only child Elizabeth m: Lionel
Throckmorton
2nd m:
Mary A. Echingham b: 1526
10 children, of whom the 6th was:
- Frances Blener Hassett b:1555
m: George Atkins;
m2:William MANN {nephew of Sir
Christopher}
- George MANN m: J. Davis
- Charles MANN m: A. Parker
- William MANN
m3: Thomas Trevor
-----------------------

cont'd children of Thomas Blav & Jne Sutton:
Kathryne(Catherine)Blennerhasset b:1503 m:Anthony Wingfield 2nd John Gosnold
Robert Blaverhasset b 1451 m: Unknown
Their children(1480)
Thomas
John (1481)m:Jane (of Heigham)Tyndal child: Ellinor (Ellin)b:1502-07 m: Sir Myles Hobart Alan Blennerhasset
Margaret Blennerhassett 1452-4
Elizabeth Blennerhassett 1453 Rafe or Rolf Blennerhassett 1455

Obviously "Old John" was not Ellinor's father, but was her great grandfather!! The confusion comes (partly) through assuming Jayne" of Heigham" Tyndall & Jane "Heigham" were the same "Jayne".

There is of course, quite a bit more to all of this!

My lineage is through Sir Christopher MANN foregoing, by his possible(?) grandson Richard MANN
