Hello Jennifer, we are from the same family of Horans. My mother, Bernice, is a daughter of Thomas Horan. I believe you have met her along with my sister & niece while they were in New York visiting another Horan descendent. I have learned something new as I never went any further than our great grandfather, Patrick. I never knew that Jerry was named after anotehr grandfather. I knew that Con & Mack were named after my grandfather's brothers. As you knew, my motehr is one of 22 children so there is a large number of cousins going around. If you have more info on the Horans I would like to know it.

Thanks
Shannon Keough

Hi Con,

My data is terribly disorganized. I'm digging it up and will see if I can put some information together for you. I may not be related to Horans at all. I know of at least one marriage between a HORAN and a MAHER, but I'm not sure if they have a connection to my own Mahers. These families settled in Muscatine County, Iowa, USA. It doesn't help that the Maher data I was given in Tipperary Town in July of 1998 now seems to be for some other Maher family, not mine. Now it has me frustrated, a bit sad, and wondering what to do. The data, however, is for Mahers who lived in the townland of Drum, just north of Rossmore. This link takes you to the archives; go to Tipperary and Headstones for the photos. There are also two Horan headstone photos from the cemetery at Clonoulty, three photos. http://www.igp-web.com/IGPArchives/ I'll bet the headstones and the plot at Rossmoref are already familiar to you.

I may find little, if any, Horan family history from there in Ireland. But I'll look at what I have. Oh... does the original post here (Thomas and James of Missouri) have any connection to you?

All the best,
Janet

I received a reply to another message on the Cook county board from your uncle, somehow this message never came through to me. I was in Ireland checking emails occasionally so maybe I missed it. I answered your uncle but have not heard back. Anyway I would love to correspond with you and maybe even talk to your grandmother, or anyone in the family that might be interested.
Henry Horan Superintendent of Smithsonian

I have been researching Henry Horan for YEARS! His daughter, Caroline Horan Conrad is my great-great grandmother. I am also researhing all of his children. I have come across a huge puzzle and I would love to talk to any of Henry Horan's decendents. Here are some puzzles: My grandmother is still alive at age 95, sharp as if she is in her 20's. I am able to confirm much of my research through her.

1. She was told years ago that the Horan brothers were acrobatics. And had the name the Delray brothers? Anyone know anything? I have 2 photos of them.

2. One of Henry Horan's daughters, Maggie Horan married a Charles C. Money. I have been unable to find obituaries on either one of them, but have just found one on a Margaret Kleh which lists her sisters and brothers (all which are Henry Horan's children). I am wondering if this is another sister. I don't think it is Maggie since she is found in the 1900-1910-1920 census and Margaret is found in the same years.

Children I have:
John Henry Horan
William H. Horan
Joseph Henry Horan
Mary Ellen Horan (Stepper)
Caroline Horan (Conrad)
Francis "Frank" Horan
Henry Horan
Maggie Horan (Money)
Chrles Henry Horan
Possibility of Margaret Horan (married Kleb)

3. My grandfather (Henry Horan is his great-grandfather) once saw a bust of Henry Horan at the Smithsonian. Has anyone ever heard or seen this? I am going to D.C. in June and hope to make a great discovery of this.
Any help is appreciated.

4. Who is Sarah Campbell? She is listed in a court document re: guardianship and property of Harry and Monroe Conrad (Caroline Horan's children). I know she is buried at Mount Olivit Cemetery.

Please email me at Ourfamilylegacy@aol.com

Thanks,
Therese DeSanto
VaBeach

Horan, Darcy, McDermott lines from Ireland (Leitrim, Drumkeeran) mid 1800's

My name is Rob Ure, and I'm a descendant from the Horan, Darcy, McDermott lines on my mothers side. I see a lot of wonderful information here in this group and thought I'd share what I've learned about my ancestors to see if I might meet some cousins here! Here is the research I have gathered, I hope you find it useful:

-----------

By searching County Leitrim marriage records for the

marriage of John Horan and Kate Darcy. We found the following civil

marriage recorded in Drumkeeran civil district:-

John Horan married Catherine Darcy on 13/09/1900 in Drumkeeran

Roman Catholic church. John was full age, a bachelor, a farmer,

from Tullyloughin Co. Leitrim and his father was Patrick Horan, a

farmer, who was alive at the time of the marriage. Catherine Darcy

was full age, a spinster, a servant, from Gortnasilla East Co. Leitrim

and her father was Patrick Darcy, a farmer, also alive at the time of

the marriage. The witnesses were Thomas Horan and Maggie Darcy.

We then searched County Leitrim civil birth records and found the

following children recorded born to this couple in Dromahaire civil

district:-

1. Winifred born 31/07/1901 to parents John Horan (a farmer) &

Kate Darcy in Tullinloughin.

2. Catherine born 04/12/1903 to parents John Horan (a farmer)

& Catherine Darcy in Tullinloughan. (THIS IS MY GRANDMOTHER, WHO LATER MOVED TO NEW YORK)

Earlier Generation - Darcy Family

We checked for the birth of a Catherine Darcy to a father Patrick, and

found that her mother was Honor McDermott. We searched all our

County Leitrim marriage records for this Darcy & McDermott marriage

and found it recorded in civil records only, as follows:

Pat Darcy married Honor McDermott on 27/02/1865 in Innishmagrath

Roman Catholic church. Pat was aged 20 years, a bachelor, a

farmer, from Lisnanorris and his father was Pat Darcy, a farmer.

Honor McDermott was full age, a spinster, from Lisnanorris and her

father was James McDermott, a deceased farmer. The witnesses

were Owen McDermott and James Carol.

As their last child was born in 1876, therefore their childrens

baptisms will not be traceable.

We found the following children recorded born to this couple in

Drumkeeran civil district:-

1. Bridget born 26/10/1866 to parents Pat Darcy (a farm labourer)

& Honora McDermott in Lisnanorris Innismagrath.

2. Francis born 01/08/1869 to parents Pat Darcy (a farmer)

& Honor McDermott in Lisnanorris Innismagrath.

3. Catherine born at 9am on 22/03/1871 to parents Pat Darcy (a

farmer) & Honor McDermott in Lisnanorris Innismagrath.

4. Mary born at 9.10am on 22/03/1871 to parents Pat Darcy (a

farmer) & Honor McDermott in Lisnanorris Innismagrath.

5. Margaret born 18/12/1872 to parents Pat Dorsy (a farmer)

& Honor McDermott in Lisnanorris Innismagrath.

6. Pat born 28/01/1874 to parents Pat Darcy (a farmer) & Honor

McDermott in Lisnanorris Innismagrath.

7. Margaret born 08/11/1876 to parents Pat Darcy (a farmer)

& Honor McDermott in Lisnanorris Innismagrath.

1901 Census

We noted the following Darcy family resident in Gortnasillagh East

townland:

1. Patrick Darcy aged 60 years, Head of Household

2. Honour Darcy aged 60 years, his wife

3. Francis Darcy aged 28 years, his son

4. Patrick Darcy aged 26 years, his son

5. Maggie Darcy aged 21 years, his daughter

6. Kate Cornyn aged 5 years, his grandaughter

1911 Census

The Darcy family were still resident in Gortnasillagh East townland,

as follows:

1. Patrick Darcy aged 72 years, Head of Household

2. Honor Darcy aged 75 years, his wife

3. Francis Darcy aged 45 years, his son, single

4. Patrick Darcy aged 44 years, his son, single

5. Margaret Darcy aged 35 years, his daughter, single

Gravestone

We found what we believe to be the Darcy family grave in Newbridge

Old Church Graveyard the inscription reads as follows:

No 45

Hail Mary Holy Mary

In Loving Memory

Of

Patrick Darcy Lisnaneris

Died 18-July 1965

R.I.P.

Erected by his wife Rose

We believe that this Patrick Darcy to be your ancestor, Kate Darcy

Horan's brother.

We checked the 2006 Voters Register and found an Annie Darcy and

a James Darcy listed.

This completes our search on your Darcy family .

-------

Feel free to contact me with questions or suggestions or introductions!

Slainte',

Rob (rure@cox.net)

HORAN, DONALD family

I am searching for the family of a Donald Horan whose wife's maiden name was Crowley. I am told she was Rita Crowley born in Illinois, sometime between 1900-1935. Believed to have 3 children, Donald, Thomas and William. Believed to have lived on Long Island. After Donald died she moved and my grandmother lost track of her. This was told to my aunt in the 1980s. I am having difficulty tracing this family due to the vagueness of the info. Thanks, Cheryl

I don't know what the Philip S McDonald Police Benevolent Assn is but that is the name of the man that married my ggrandfather's sister in Rome New York and he was a police officer that was killed in the line of duty. Also, I have been searching my Sullivan line in Rome without success. Agness Sullivan who died in 1937 was married to my ggrandfather John F Lawler. I haven't been able to identify her parents but believe she was born in seneca falls or glenn falls.

Our Horans were located in Killigeary, Carrowmore-Lacken, County Mayo, Ireland around that time. Our ancestor migrated to Ross, Killala, County Mayo and married Mary Molloy of that area in the late 1800s. It seems from our oldest generation to the current, there have been a succession of James Horans. We are happy to share what we have.

Hi Loraine,

Try extending your search to include Co Tipperary (especially in the north) and Co Laois (sometimes Leix and I've even seen it spelled Laoighis) as there were Horans all around there in the early 1800s. Also Offaly was called Kings County and Laois was called Queens County for some time before independence.

Cheers
Robyn Horan
Sydney

My mother, Mary Nolan, married, on Nov 30, 1935 a Harlan D.Woodard in Yakima, WA. They were divorced a few months later, divorce filed for on Jan. 18, 1936, granted on July 22, 1936. Mary was just 16 at the time but was listed, and her parents signed the marriage license, as 18 at the time. Because the marriage was so short, and the deceptive age of Mary, I wonder if there was a child born of this marriage. And could that child be your father? I know the dates aren't exactly right but maybe Lillian chose to change those...or maybe didn't really know.
