Hi, I don't know if we are of the same family or not but I have a picture of a grave marker with the name of Vesta Jones born June 8,1913, I don't know if she is buried there or not.Her husband was William L. Jones, the cemetary is Cedar Grove in So.Illinois between Goreville and Buncombe Let me explain my relationship first.
My grandpa (Jesse Owen Jones) was the brother of Uncle Bill of whom would be my great uncle. I can vaguely remember visiting them as a child. I am 55 years old, they lived somewhere upstate Illinois. My grandpa died young of a massive heart attack and I was never raised around the Jones's.In a census I found them living in Lick Creek.I have been interested in finding my roots as well. My pics include grave marker pics of Dolph E. (Feb.13,1900-Sept.7,1972and Mable E. Jones Sept.15,1903-Feb.12,1986).Both markers are close in the cemetary. Also have pic of the marker of George W. Jones Sept. 8,1873-March 5,1946, I believe this to be my grandpa but there is also a marker for I think to be his wife Louisa B. Jones Oct. 12,1876-April 18, 1942. I also found one for William Lovell Jones Dec. 4 1932-Jan.4,1933. I took these pic. back in 1995.I think these are my relatives but I have no hints as to what Louisa B's maiden name was do you? My Mother was Shirley Ann Jones-daughter of Sybil Martin (Jones) and Jesse Owen Jones. All are of course passed on so I actually have nobody to question about this.
I got interested in this last Oct. and I must admit, I am hooked on this search and record keeping adventure.
I hope that I was of some help.
Sincerely,
Sandra Henry

Hi Sarah,

Sorry this is so late, 7 grandbabies born in 5 years & multiple deaths, like my mom and dad! You indeed have the correct Jacob Jones. He married Jane for the first marriage and then he married my GGmother Hannah and had my GGfather Harry Jones, his son, my gf was Clarence Jones and my father was David Richard Jones. Have you dug into Jacob to track him to Salem County? I havent had much luck digging at Salem County families, where do you find any records other than Gloucester County Historical Society in Woodbury? Let me know what you found out about him, or which one he was in Salem County. God Bless you on this one!

I am the grand daughter of Jesse Owen Jones, his Dad was George W .Jones. Is there anyone out there that has any info on these people? I found a George W. Jones buried at Cedar Grove cemetary in So.ll. I think that his wife was Louisa B. ??? she died in 1942 and he died in 1946, their graves are in the same area but not together.Any info will be appreciated. My GrandPa Jesse died young and we were never raised around these people, just looking to find my roots. Thank you in advance. Sandy

Hello, I'm not certain how to address you since your screen name isn't obvious, like "ElizabethJones49". I am not certain why your grandfather decided to use his mother's maiden name. I can tell you that my grandmother (the oldest sister in the family, Mary Ann) went to her grave saying her maiden name was "Holmes" not Jones. I do remember her saying once that her father could be a mean drunk. So maybe he alienated all of his children. Was your grandfather a blacksmith? From what I have found, Thomas Joseph Jones, Jr., DOB 7/2/1892, was a blacksmith, first before he enlisted in the army in NY in 1910, then in RI before WWI, then again in RI after WWI. According to the Pawtucket, RI city directory, he "removed" to NY in the early 1920's. Do you think this is the same person? If so, send me a message here on Ancestry so that we can get to know more about each other and the family. I've been trying to find out what happened to Thomas Jr. for a couple of years now. Hope this is the same person.

Elizabeth, Upon further thought, my grandfather must be Thomas Joseph Jones' son. I am not sure why my grandfather chose to keep his mother's name - Holmes - for himself. Do you have any info that might explain this. I found him listed with his exact birth date with a mother named Mary A. in the 1900 Census. There seems to be no doubt they are related. I found there are alot of family trees connected to Thomas Joseph Jones. I am assuming the extended family has been developing this? My grandfather passed away when my father (the youngest of 7) was 6 years old. I understand he had a drinking problem.

My grandfather's name is Thomas Joseph Jones Holmes (maybe Jr?) His date of birth is July 2, 1892. His Military info states he was born in Waltham MA and his Census info states that both his mother and father were from Ireland. I am trying to connect him back from RI where he worked and took care of his mother and 3 sisters (based on his 1917-18 Military draft notice). As of right now, I don't have his parents' info to connect.

Instead of Jacob now I have Bruce ?? The mom's name sounds similar to Vunivesta (Buena Vista), but her last name is Griffith instead of Jones. I guess I'll try to find something on these new names. I'll let you know if I make any sense of anything......Terry

how do you know that Charles William Jones is related to the Jones family that owned the Ashworth and Jones company? I can't find any historical documents to verify they are family. In the 1851 England Census it shows a Joseph and Alice Jones as the parents of Betty Whitworth, William Jones and Edmund Jones. If Betty, William and Edmund are siblings to Charles William, Edward and Robert Jones, then how is it the census reports the ages of Joseph and Alice (possible parents) as 52 years of age when Charles William Jones (supposedly their son) was of the same age? It looks like maybe the relationships between these folks is somehow confused.

"The Kansas City Times" (Missouri) Wednesday, September 18, 1889

The Rock Island Wins.

The United States circuit court finished yesterday the case of
WILCOX against the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific railway.
The jury, after being out about two hours, rendered a verdict
in favor of the defendant. The suit was for $5,000 damages
and was brought by the widow of M. J. WILCOX, who was killed
on a construction train in July, 1888.

The case of Lucy Jones, whose husband was fireman on the
same train and was killed at the same time, was decided in favor
of the defendant several days ago. The ground of defense in
both cases was reckless and fast running.

======================================================
(I have no connection with this family but I'd appreciate
knowing if you found this posting helpful.)
johnobrien@kc.rr.com
======================================================

neirbo10
Samuel Marion Jones B: approx 1875 TX. Married Josephine M. Penney/Penny

My Greatgrandfather is Samuel Marion Jones, on my grandmothers delayed birthcertificate it says he was born in Texas. He married Josephine M. Penney/Penny. She went by "Josie" One of their Daughters (my grandmother) Brydie Edna Jones was born July 10 1910 in Antioch, Garvin Co., Oklahoma. Other known children of Samuel Marion Jones and Josephine aka Josie M Penney/Penny are
R.C., Gladis, Audi/Audy, Clarence, Monroe, Bertha, Loudie, Archie, and Brydie (my grandmother) Samuel was a Farmer here in oklahoma. What information I have come across that I believe could be his father, mother and brother are as follows:

Lewis B. Jones b: 1846 Tenn. in a 1880 Census in TX, Dennison, Grayson, Tx. married Siriah/Sarah E. B: in Kentucky they had 2 boys Samuel Jones age 5 in the 1880 census and Elijah T. Jones. Jones anyone else have this info or any verification that I am on the correct path. I found this info on Familysearch.org it also showed others living in the house as slaves...but I have also found on the same said website that Josephine M Penney/Penny is J.C. Penny's daughter which can not be correct since J.C. would only be 5 yrs. when Josephine was born. My trust in that website has weakened and need to know if there is anyone out there that might have information that confirms it.

I was also told either Samuel or Josephine were of the Choctaw Nation. I can not find any information on Josephine except that which I stated above and know by dates are not true. Plus...the family says she was a cousin of J.C. Penny not a daughter.

Help plz.!!!!!

I can be reach by either emailing me at shadesofkismet@att.net if that one doesn't work, then email me at shadesofkismet2010@yahoo.com. I do have a picture of Samuel.

Thanks
Kim
