Hello Everyone.

I am still the adminstrator of the Kendall DNA Studies. In our combined studies we have about 90 members.

I am still very excited about being able to supplement our conventional research with genetic testing. It really can save a lot of time and narrow down the number of possible ancestors you have to search.

If you are interested in participating or have a male cousin (must be from an unbroken male line) who is, please contact me at my new email address scottdkendall@gmail.com

Thank you
Scott

Saw your post of June 2008 regarding your search for Reuben Kendall's grandfather. Wondering if you would share who you have for Reuben's father. We have a possible Reuben Kendall whose father is Thomas Kendall, wondering if there's any connection.

Well Gang,

I am hoping the new series on NBC, Who Do You Think You Are and the series Faces of America on PBS will spur more interest in genealogy and genetic testing.

The last episode of Faces of America focused on DNA testing. They now have tests available to see if two people shared a common ancestor within the last 250 years or so. It is the "Family Finder" test offered at Family Tree DNA.

We have been at a standstill in the Kendall DNA Study. We are hovering around 90 members.
I'm not sure I've got exactly the right people but I think we're connected. I have a photo that looks like it's from the 1880s of 3 girls -- Fanny Belle Kendall, Minnie Kendall and Nancy Kendall, daughters of my gggrandfather's brother Adam Kendall and his wife Almira Ferguson. Photo would have been taken around Monmouth, Ill. There's also a Jessie Pearl Kendall in the family, b. 1894, probably in the same part of Ill., daughter of James Simpson Kendall and Grace May Brown --James Simpson Kendall was my ggrandmother's brother. My Kendalls came to Illinois from Xenia, Ohio, in the 1820s-30s, and came to Xenia from Kentucky in the early 1800s. What do you think -- any connection?

I'm trying to trace back from an Elizabeth Witte who died in Wisconsin, USA in 1966. There's a good chance her surname before marriage was Kendall. The most likely candidate I've been able to find is someone listed as Elizabeth Kennel who married on 28 November 1924 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan. If anyone can let me know if I'm on the right track in linking her to Elizabeth Witte, I'd be very grateful

Is this your grandmother?

This Alice was the daughter of Revd Edward Kay Kendall (1833-94) and Alice Peard. Edward was the older brother of Robert Sinclair Kendall and Franklin Richardson Kendall (my ancestor). If this is your connection it would appear that you are my father's 3rd cousin.

I have also been trying to discover where the connection with Kenneth Kendall and Capt Henry George Kendall is.

I would be grateful to hear from any other relatives who are also researching the Kendalls of Pelyn and Treworgy.
Edward

George Kendall of Loudoun County VA in Fauquier County Tax Lists

Hello Everyone.

I hope to get some feedback on this post.

I have been reviewing personal property tax lists in Virginia. I found three George Kendalls listed for the year 1801 in Fauquier County, VA. Well after reviewing the list a the surrounding counties list I have created a theory. One of these George Kendalls was actually a George Kendall who mainly resided in Loudoun County, VA.

He was born before 1765 and it appears his estate was settled by 1820 in Loudoun County, VA. Based on the tax lists he had the following sons: Henry, William, Francis, Josiah and Charles.

This George should not be confused with George (possiblity two) who was living in Fauquier County and had sons: Enoch, Joel, John, James, Jeremiah and Bailey.

I would love to correspond with anyone researching the Loudoun County Kendall family. Please email me at scottdkendall@gmail.com.

Thanks
Scott

I don't recognize those names but since I have not found a definite connection to any other Kendalls that would be his family (ie parent, sibling etc) I can't be for sure these aren't connected. He was born in Missouri and was a miner, he worked along the west border of Missouri & down into Oklahoma. I can do some further checking with the names you've given...do you have date of birth etc? Yes, genealogy involves a lot of persistence!!!!
weelass57

She had two sisters, Berbie and Clara.

I am not sure what part of oklahoma they are from.

She did marry a man by the name of Herriford and then a man named Stephenson.

If any of this rings a bell please let me know. Im sure you all know this family tree research is quite difficult

Thank You
Chris Glover

I am a descendant of the Kendalls of Pelyn. An entry for Kendall of Pelyn can be found in Burke's Landed Gentry. Nicholas Kendall of Pelyn was my grandfather's second cousin and Robert Sinclair Kendall was my grandfather's great uncle. I believe Pelyn is now being restored by a John Kendall. I have also heard that we are related to the newsreader Kenneth Kendall.

Hello.

I am trying to locate a Kendall Family Bible original owned by William Buckner Kendall of Stafford County, KS.

I was once told it was in the family of John Buckner Kendall who lived in St John and Great Bend Kansas or the family of Gilbert Kendall who lived for some time in Hutchison Kansas. It may be in the hands of Laura Rodarmel a granddaughter of Gilber Kendall

Now due to deaths in family it may be in the family or Laura Rodarmel in St John Kansas. If anyone knows these families or any facts about the bible, please contact me at scottdkendall@gmail.com. There are also family pictures that may be assocaited with the bible.

I am willing to pay/give a finders fee to anyone that helps me locate the bible and/or obtain copies of it.

Thank you
Scott Kendall

Re: Elizabeth Kendall - witch?

According to David D. Hall's book, Witch-Hunting in Seventeenth Century New England, A Documentary History 1638-1693, pp. 24-25, "The only report of this case is John Hale's in A Modest Enquiry (1702). No one has yet been able to identify Elizabeth Kendall or to date her execution, which took place sometime between 1647 and 1651."

This is the text from Hale, with Hall's footnotes:

A woman is wrongfully blamed for a child's death
Another suffering in this kind was a woman of Cambridge, against whom a principal evidence was a Watertown nurse, who testified, that the said Kendall (so was the accused called) did bewitch to death a child of Goodman Genings (1) of Watertown; for the said Kendall did make much of the child, and then the child was well, but quickly changed its color and died in a few hours after. The court took this evidence among others, the said Genings not knowing of it. But after Kendall was executed (who also (2) denied her guilt to the death),
Mr. Richard Brown (3) knowing and hoping better things of Kendall, asked said Genings if they suspected her to bewitch their child, they answered no. But they judged the true cause of the child's death to be thus, viz. the nurse had the night before carried out the child and kept it abroad in the cold a long time, when the red gum was come out upon it, and the cold had struck in the red gum, and this they judged the cause of the child's death. And that said Kendall did come in that day and make much of the child, apprehended no wrong to come to the child by her. After this the nurse was put into prison for adultery, and there delivered of her base child, and Mr. Brown went to her and told her, It was just with God to leave her to this wickedness, as a punishment for her murdering Goody Kendall by her false witness bearing. But the nurse died in prison, and so the matter was not farther inquired into.

(1) Or Jennings.
(2) John Hale's "also" refers to Mrs. Lake and Mary Johnson.
(3) A deputy to the General Court from Watertown, Massachusetts.
Source: Hale, A Modest Enquiry, pp. 18-19.
Robert Kendall

Actor later became teacher

Robert Kendall, 82, who wrote the 1964 book "White Teacher in a Black School" based on the two years he taught public school in South Central Los Angeles, died Nov. 12 of a heart attack at his Seattle home, announced his friend William Hare.

Born in 1927 in Stephenson, Mich., Kendall came to Hollywood in 1945 when he won a screen test in a contest. When the prize did not pan out, he took a job as a carhop at a drive-in and told everyone he served that he wanted to break into the movies.

A customer who was an agent cast Kendall in the role of Hassan in the 1947 musical "Song of Scheherazade." Kendall also had small parts in several other movies and TV shows, including the 1948 film "Casbah" with Tony Martin.

Disillusioned with acting, Kendall studied for the ministry and eventually obtained a teaching degree from Cal State L.A. His book, a thinly disguised fictional account of his teaching experience, received a lukewarm review in The Times in 1965. It appeared beneath a headline that read "Blackboard Jungle Revisited."

In later years, Kendall wrote for film magazines.
I also have the James/Jerushia Kendall marriage taking place Aug 9,1850 per the Indiana Marriage Index.

My research indicates:
Sanford Kendall, son of Thorton and Jamima (Carver) Kendall was born c. 1804 in Virginia. On Aug 24, 1824 he married Emily Stark in Washington Co. Indiana. The marriage was most likely performed by her father Abraham Stark.

Emily Stark was born April 1806 in Henry County Kentucky. Her parents were Abraham and Sally (Stark) Stark. Her parents were first cousins, both descending from Aaron Stark of Groton CT.

I found census records for Sanford and Emily as follows:
1830 Vigo County Indiana
1840 Carroll County Indiana

Sanford died c. 1846-1849 in Indiana (this estimate based on the birth of his youngest son Nelson born June 15, 1846, and the estimated date of when Emily appears to move back to Vigo County presumably to be near her family.

Emily appears on the 1850 census living with her son in Vigo County. About 1863 it appears that Emily's children, with the exception of James, migrated to Richland County Wisconin. James appears to moved from Vigo County Indiana to Meade County Kentucky after Sept 1856 (birth of James Larkin Kendall in IN) and 1860 (Census).

I have not been able to find any information regarding Emily after the 1850 census, nor can I determine where her minor son, Nelson was until 1864 when he enlisted in the Wisconsin Infantry. The inability to local Emily or Nelson in the 1860 census could be that she remarried and Nelson was listed with her new husbands last name, or that they were in transit during the taking of the census. It remains a bit of a mystery. There are family trees posted that indicate Emily died after 1870 in IN which indicate that someone found her on the 1860 or 1870 census but not the 1880...but there has never been any sources listed for the speculative death date.

I have quite a lot of information about the families of both Emily and Sanford Kendall and will happily share any of it with interested parties, and much of it is posted on Ancestry (Johnson-Gjersvig tree).

Charles William Kendall 1856-1910 Ringwood, Hants

I'm looking for descendants of the children of my great-grandfather Charles William Kendall/Kendell.

Charles lived in Ringwood, Hampshire, England from 1856 to 1910, and had four wives.

Charles's father was John Kendall (1827-1908). His mother was Elizabeth Chamberlain Rogers (1832-1915).

Charles's first marriage was to Annie Manston of Ringwood in 1877. I've found no record of any children. Annie was born about 1857. Her father was George Manston.

Charles had the following children with Janet Kendall (formerly Kendall):

Ada May Kendall (born 5 May 1883 in Ringwood)
Charles William Kendall (born 5 May 1885 in Ringwood)
Bertie Tom Kendall (born 28 Dec 1887 in Bransgore)

In the 1891 census, these children were living with their grandparents John and Elizabeth. Charles and Janet were nowhere to be found.

Next, Charles had the following children with Mary Ann (formerly Brookes/Walker):

Arthur Adrian Kendall (born 20 May 1894 in Southampton)
Albert Edward Walter Kendall (b. 3 June 1896 in Crow, Ringwood)
Annie Julia Kendall (b. 25 June 1898 in Northam, Southampton)
Frederick Lewis Stanley Kendall (b. 25 April 1900 in Northam, Southampton)
Walter Charles Kendall (b. 15 Nov 1907 in Ringwood)

Mary Ann died in December 1907 and Charles married Rose Maud Gordge in 1909. They had two children:

Dora Gladys Kendall (died July 1909 age 2 months)
Edward Alexander Kendall (1910-1984)

Charles died in 1910 and Rose took Edward (my grandfather) to Devon. He married and had six children, most of whom had large families.

If you're descended from Charles William Kendall, please get in touch!

Regards,
David
