Very interesting. I just got this book through my UCONN ILL. I have some info on Amer Stocking's genealogy...he is related to me through the Stockings of HArtford and Cromwell...we branch off from each other after the George Stocking generation. I would be very interested in info about Amer and his ancestry. I am writing a book about the Stockings.....a cornucopia it's called so far.
I can email you from my other emails addresses...
Deb in CT.

Hi Pat, I apologize for being out of the "tree" for so long but as you may notice I have been a bit busy with a new and very happy marriage.
Regarding the book mentioned...
it is called THE SAUKIE INDIANS
(sub titled... 'and their great chiefs' Black Hawk and Keokuk)
written by a descendant of the Wampanoags, Amer Mills Stocking.
This particular book was published in Rock Island, Illinois in 1926 by THE VAILE COMPANY.
I happened to be fortunate enough to run across it in a small shop locally (I'm a book nut!) and paid $40 for it, but what a treasure!!
There are lots of photos in it that pertain to Keokuk and his family; one in particular is captioned Keokuk's Wives...it is a photo of 3 Indian women taken at the Anschultz Studio in Keokuk, IA
Some others of interest include:
photo of Mr. and Mrs. John Earl Keokuk ; furnished by Mrs. John Earl Keokuk of Portland, OR
Keokuk Junior or Moses Keokuk; furnished by a Ben H. Wilson of Mount Pleasant, IA
photo of Dorotha Keokuk, great-great granddaughter of Keokuk that was taken on the campus of Indian School at Chilocco, Oklahoma
photo print of Keokuk on horseback, originally painted by George Catlin
I have (since my lucky find) seen this book listed on Amazon.com at varying prices...the one I have is in BEAUTIFUL shape and has been well cared for. Let me know if I can help any further and good luck in your quest......where do you live Pat? I know that we have talked before....thanks, barb

My friend descends from Mary Caroline's daughter Jane.

My friend has not been able to find any proof that Mary Caroline's father was Chief Keokuk... just family stories. Do you have any documentation/papers that prove that Chief Keokuk was Mary Caroline's father? What do you have regarding the mother. I greatly appreciate any light you can shed. Thanks.

Kindest regards, Mary
