Kype, Scotland

I have recently discovered that there is a place in Scotland name "Kype". There is also a Kype River in the same locale. The "Annals of Lesmahagow" make reference to Kype and also a William de Kype in 1301. I wonder if this is could be an ancestor of Ruloff de Kype. This would mean that the family is most likely of Celtic or Viking descent rather than being from France. Does anyone have anything to add?

Is there anyone in Baltimore Maryland or close to me that may know how I can get started on tracking down relatives?

Does anyone have any documentation regarding J.D. Kipp?
I found this reference on the Internet @ the LDS Family History Library Catalog:
Title
Kipp family, ca. 1670-1887
Stmnt.Resp.
J. D. Kipp
Authors
Kipp, J. D. (John Dennis), b. 1855 (Main Author)
Notes
Microfilm of photocopy of original holograph letter (4 leaves) donated by Ward A. Kipp, Rush, New York.
Contains genealogical information about the Kipp family from a letter written to an unknown person, probably a relative, by J. D. Kipp, perhaps of Walworth, New York, where he was born in 1855. The letter was probably written about the 1890s.
Jacobus Kipp emigrated from Holland, ca. 1670, and settled in New York City. His great great grandson, James Kip, was born in New York City in 1751, the son of Simeon Kipp. James was the father of twelve children, born 1774-1799, at New York City, Fishkill, New York, and Johnston, New York. His son, Peter Kipp, was born in 1879 in New York City. He married Harriet Conklin (1794-1829) in 1814. They had five children, 1815-1821, born a Pompey and Walworth, New York. He married 2) Prudence Aldrich Bonker, a widow with two two children, in 1830 at Newark, New York. They had three children, 1831-1834, all born at Newark. His son, Alonzo Kip (1816-1879), was born at Pompey, New York. He married Asenath Brown (1817-1860) in 1840. They had seven children, 1841-1860, born at Arcadia, Plmyra, and Walworth, New York. He married 2) Emily Price Mills (b. 1829), a widow with one child, in 1860. They had a son born at Walworth, New York, in 1871.
Subjects
Kipp
Format
Manuscript (On Film)
Language
English
Publication
Salt Lake City, Utah : Filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 1994
Physical
on 1 microfilm reel ; 35 mm.
Film Notes
Note - Location [Film]
Kipp family, ca. 1670-1887 - FHL US/CAN Film [ 1698059 Item 35 ]
© 2002 Intellectual Reserve, Inc.
Kip/Kipp/DeKype DNA project Jun 08 Update

There has been little/no action on the project since the first 4 people contributed. How about considering contributing your DNA sample? With the current price of gasoline/petrol, this project is not that expensive.
Here's the current status of the project:
We welcome all Kipp/Kip descendants (in the male line) to join the study to test the y-chromosome to help define the Kipp/Kip families located around the world.

One of the goals of the study was to determine how many founder Kip/Kipp families there are in the world. Thus far we have two distinct lines belonging to the haplogroups I and R in subclades I1b1 (I1b is now I1b1 by the International Society of Genetic Genealogy) and R1b1c .

A second goal of the study was to bring together the various branches of the Kip family that first settled at New Amsterdam (now New York City) in 1635. Three of the members of the Kipp DNA study have matched exactly on 12 markers. At 37 markers two members have matched 35/37. Mutations have appeared in the two fast moving markers CDYa and CDYb (red on the chart). Mutations in these two markers are quite common in family studies and often assist in separating descendant lines. One member of the study has a paper trail back to Hendrick Hendricksen Kip (b c 1600) and he is a descendant of Hendrick’s son Isaac Hendrickson Kip (b 10 Jan 1627). The two members who match 35/37 are at a minimum 7th cousins and to see the closeness of the match is quite intriguing.

Emigration and Census details for Kipp families

Denization was completed for the de Kype (Kip/Kipp) family line (that emigrated to New Amsterdam in 1635 from Leyden, Holland) in New York City following the successful British takeover in the 1660s.

In the 1700s there were three individuals who signed the Oath of Allegiance in Pennsylvania as new Kipp emigrants from Germany:

Michael Kipp departed 13 Oct 1749 from Rotterdam on the Lydia

Johan Henrich Kipp departed 1752 from Rotterdam on the Louisa

Johannes Kipp departed 3 Oct 1753 from Rotterdam on the Louisa

Kip(p) family of New York

The number of Kip/Kipp descendants of the New York family were numerous by the 1790 census and they are not listed here but a listing of the descendants of Hendrick Hendricksen Kip can be reviewed in a *.pdf file located on the Kipp DNA Study Administrator’s webpage <a href="http://ca.geocities.com/ekipp@rogers.com/kipfam.htm" target="_blank">http://ca.geocities.com/ekipp@rogers.com/kipfam.htm . For Kit #18407, his ancestor Isaac Kipp (b 1764) is likely listed on the 1790 census at Northeast Town, Dutchess County with his wife Hannah Mead living next door/with Jonathan Mead (her possible father). On the 1800 census (taken in August 1800) Isaac Kipp, his wife Hannah and four of their five sons are likely found at Rensselaerville and they are known to be in Upper Canada by October 1800 as they applied for land as settlers, were naturalized and their first daughter Elizabeth was born there in November 1800.

Census in Pennsylvania 1790

Henry Kipp, Donegal Lancaster PA – 3 males 16 and over and 2 females

Henry Kips, Dauphin PA – 2 males 16 and over, 1 male under 16 and 2 females

John Kip, Whitehall Northampton PA – 1 male 16 and over, 3 males under 16 and 3 females

John Kip, Mixed Township York PA – 1 male 16 and over, 3 males under 16 and 6 females

Family Tree DNA - Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd.
World Headquarters
1445 North Loop West, Suite 820 Houston, Texas 77008, USA
Phone: (713) 868-1438 | Fax: (832) 201-7147
Contact Us
All Contents Copyright 2001-2004 Genealogy by Genetics, Ltd.
Project Background, Goals, Results and News are copyright of the specific Surname Project
I'm looking for info. on Andrew Kipp father of Leonard Kipp.

Leonard Kipp is my great great Grandfather on my mothers side, he was born on Apr 12 in 1868 Rotenzimmern, Wuerttemberg, Germany. He was first a stowaway but then went home, came back and became a legal citizen. His father Andrew and mother Anna Seaman were both born in Germany. I would like to learn more about the Kipps in Germany but mostly more about Andrew Kipp and his ancestors. If anyone knows of a good source of information that would be great. Most of the sites I've been on that were any good were mostly in German and I can't speak it at all so a good English source would be even better. Thanks.

I have an original postcard photograph of 16 named women, at “Mrs. Eaton’s, at Thimble Party“ in Sidney (Delaware Co.) NY in April, 1911. The photo was taken on the porch, apparently of Mrs. Eaton’s home. The names are Mrs. Laura Taylor, Mrs. Frank Bartley, Mrs. Somerville, Mrs. E. Van Alstine, Mrs. Arthur Bird, Mrs. H. B. Wieden, Mrs. Lavier Stewart, Mrs. L. Graves, Mrs. Lenbrook, Mrs. A. L. Eaton and son, Mrs. Fred Curtis, Mrs. F. Bailey, Mrs. J. Kipp, Mrs. Minnie Taylor, Mrs. Parker and Mrs. C. Lockwood. Postcard was mailed April 29, 1911 from Sidney, NY.

I found a number of these ladies in the 1910 census for Sidney (Delaware Co.) NY – and was able to obtain their given names and ages.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to any of these ladies who went to the “Thimble Party” at Mrs. Eaton’s house.

I am searching for information on Martha Kipp and husband Benjamin L. Dean; they are not my ancestors, but Benjamin is a son of my Daniel Matthew Dean who d. 1846/7 in Canada. Benjamin was born 04 July 1805 most likely in Twp of Murray, Newcastle District, Ontario and Martha was born to ??? on 09 Feb 1808 (calculated from age at time of death) and died 29 May 1850; is buried in Firby Cem. Bayham, Elgin, Ontario. Who are their children? When did Benjamin die? I am trying to extend the lines of my Dean children, hoping to find how a Hiram Dean who md. a Clarinda A. Hilliker comes into the picture. The surname Kipp popped up a lot during my Dean, Moss/Morse families research but I never paid any attention to it at the time... Now: it may help to know something about Martha Kipp....

I would really appreciate it, if someone would post the information on the message board.

Thanks

Joseph Hummel

Kipp Roll Call?

Hello,

I see the KIPP list is adoptable right now (I was wondering how why I wasn't able to re-subscribe...must not be an admin right now) Anyway I figured I'd post on the message board and see if it goes out to all on the list as well.

There haven't been a lot of posts recently, so I thought it might be a good idea for everybody to post their Kipp line to see if maybe there are connections out there that some of us aren't aware of. Here is my line (starting with my great-great-grandmother Minnie Kipp...the last in my line to carry the Kipp surname):

Minnie Kipp: BORN 1866 in Imlay City, MI, DIED 1920 in Port Huron, MI (husband Fred Dunford)

Darwin E. Kipp: BORN 1837 in Elgin Co., Ont., Canada, DIED 1908 in Grand Rapids, MI (wife Catherine Pace)

Jesse Kipp: BORN 1804 most likely near LaGrange, Dutchess Co. NY, DIED 1883 in Grand Rapids, Michigan (wife Eliza Morgan)

John Kipp: BORN 1775 in Westchester Co., NY, DIED 1846 in Elgin Co., Ont., Canada (wife Ruth Carpenter)

James Kipp: BORN 1751 in Westchester Co., NY, DIED 1785 Cumberland, N.S., Canada (wife Zipporah Carpenter)

Benjamin Kipp: BORN 1703 in NY, DIED 1782 in Morrisania, NY (wife Dorothy Davenport)

Jesse Kipp: BORN 1660 in New Amsterdam (NY), DIED 1722 (wife Maria Stevenson) NOTE: I know there is some debate over who Benjamin's parents were, Jesse and Maria, or his brother Johannes Kipp and Catherine Keirstede...most today seem to beleive it was Jesse and Maria)

Jacobus Kip: BORN 1631 in the Netherlands, DIED 1690 (wife Maria De La Montagne)

I figure I'll stop with Jacob(us), builder of the famous Kip's Bay house since everybody seems to be familiar with him, and tracing back further.

Scott
The only thing I know about my Kipp ancestor is his name, Joseph. He married my great-great-great-grandma Eleanor(a) Matilda VanMeter Evans (1823-1903). The only clues I have about him are through his wife and child (my great-great-grandma), Alice Emmeline Kipp. She was born in Chicago, while Matilda was born in Ohio.
I know Joseph Kipp had several more children, and I'm hoping some one may know about him. I would be most apreciative if anyone who has any information on him would send it to me.

Thank you so much!,
-Shannon Dillon
Canadian Kipps?

Any of you Canadian Kipps ever hear anything about an ancestor that may have had a family with a Blood Indian woman? We originally thought my g-grandmother's maiden name was Goodcrier and that's how it's listed on several documents, however I recently found a reference in a death record of my great-aunt that her mother's maiden name was Kipp. Here's the names that I have run across so far in my search. Mary Running Antelope, Mary Goodcrier, a reference to a last name of Schuster, and a reference to a last name of Kipp.

She was born at the Blood Indian reservation near Milk River in Canada. She came to the states as a young girl to attend school and met my great-grandfather, William Lillard. They returned to her birthplace in Canada and was married in March 1870. They eventually settled in Blackleaf, Teton County, Montana and resided there until their deaths in 1914 and 1915.

Any information would be GREATLY appreciated.

Attention all Kipp/Kip/DeKype researchers.
If you have successfully traced and documented your ancestry to Ruloff De Kype (b. 1510) from Alencon, Bretagne, Normandy, France. Why not pool all our resources (GEDCOMs) and try an connect all our branches together into one big family tree. Makes no difference what Software Program you're using, Most all can process GEDCOMs.
The point is... we have so many fragmented trees for this lineage, (that) it makes little sense to keep fragmenting them further by not sharing our results. Just think, What a family reunion it would be for all of us.

Kipps family related to Eder family

While looking through old pictures of Eder family, I found pictures of Kipps family. Francis Lawrence Eder came to Virginia in early 20''s from Baltimore, and married my husband.s grandmother, Clara Brady. This was a second marriage for him. His first wife was from the Baltimore, Md. area. We know very little about his people, so any information would be appreciated.

I am looking for any information on the family of John/Johannes Kipp who immigrated from Obervorschutz, Germany in 1840. He landed in Baltimore in August 1840 and moved to Bedford County, PA with his wife Anna Katharina (Zeigner) Kipp. I am particularly interested in what happened to his 10 children besides Lewis and Jonas. They are the only two sons than I know lived to adulthood. I am a descendant of Lewis. Any help would be appreciated.

Henry Kipp married Hannah bef 1828

I am searching for information on a Henry Kipp who married Hannah before 1828. According to "New York Births and Baptisms, Southeast Region", they had a son, William Alford Kipp, born 15 Dec 1828, baptized 1830 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church (also called Stone Church) at Rhinebeck, NY. This William married first Clarissa Ann Beam, and after her death in 1857, he married Serena (Last name unknown). Any help on Henry's parents' names and any other info gratefully appreciated.

Edward Kipp--Ohio

I am looking for any information on my birth father. I was born in August of 1971. He and my mother were not married and it has been difficult for me to get any information from her about him. She said that he worked as a driver for greyhound and that she met him while riding the bus back and forth from nursing school. She lived in Ripley, West Virginia and went to school in Charleston, WV. She said he saw me once when I was a baby but not after that. She said he lived in Ohio and that his route went from there into WV. I never had a father growing up, except for my heavenly father (who I have never been disappointed by), but I do wish to know something about my biological father. I have researched my maternal genealogy and would like to do the same on my paternal side. I would also like to meet any half brothers or sisters that I may have. My only sibling, a sister, died twelve years ago. If anyone knows the Edward Kipp that I am looking for, then will you please tell him that he has a daughter who wishes to know him. If he is still living then it is not too late.---Melissa
I am at fuzzydogpa@aol.com

Hoping to find somebody that connects to the family (or knows descendants) of:

Robert D. Kipp, born about 1908 in MI, (was living in Brooklyn, NY in 1930 with wife Lorine).

Robert was the son of Frank D. Kipp and Effie (Free) Kipp.

Its my guess that the middle initial "D" in the family stands for Darwin, since Frank's father was Darwin Kipp.

Thanks.

Scott

Jacob KIP (1631-1690)/Maria de la Montagne (Society)

Hello List,

If you descend from the Jacob KIP (1631-1690) that married Maria de le Montagne (which I’m sure many on the list do), I wanted to point out that you are eligible to join the Society of Descendants of Johannes de la Montagne. This society has been around for about 20 years, has/had hundreds of members, and puts out a quarterly newsletter which is great for anybody interested in their family history on this line. I’m told by the person that currently heads the Society, that there are only 2 current members that descend from the KIPP line (myself and the webmaster for the society). There have been many KIPP descendants in the past that have contributed a great amount of info however. Thought I’d see if I could get our branch a little better represented with current members.

If you’d like to see the website (which is underway, but not completed), visit:

www.delamontagne.org

Tell em Scott sent ya! :-)
John Kipp of NY and PA 1735/47 to 1810

John Kipp appears in the records of the Dutch Reformed Church in Conewago, York, now Adams Co., PA in the late 1700's with wife Hannah DeGraff of Rhinebeck, NY. He may have been married previously as one son, Barent, is older than the recorded marriage date. Barent was apparently born while his father was in transit from NY in either NY or NJ.

Kipps in SERN NYS

I'm looking for the parents of my gg grandfather, Richard Kipp, b 9/11/1803 m. Elizabeth Woodruff, b 2/10/1815, both born in NYC, moved to Orange Cty, NY by 1840. Richard died in Goshen, NY 6/13/1886. Here is what I have so far:
Children of Richard and Elizabeth:
John Henry, b 1835 m Millie McCarter
Richard Anthony, b 1838, m Mary Ann Dailey
Jane A., b 1845, m Henry Hill
David K., b 1833 moved to Rockport IL, m unknown
William Augustus, b 1836, m Susan Hulse
Alfred Y, b 1838, d 1 yr old.

It seems many Kipps moved N from NYC remaining east of the Hudson, into Rheinbeck and Red Hook in Columbia Cty. Others went into NJ, a few into PA. Richard Kipp appears to be the only one to migrate into Orange County. It's been a difficult search to locate his parents. Any help would be appreciated.
