Hi, Connie! Someone, maybe you, told me that it was the result of a broken letter "W" on an old mail box. Part of the "W" broke off leaving the "U". I don't know. Aunt Eloise Laurence (of beautiful Thorndale, Texas, and in her late 90's) says that's all a crock and that we have always spelled it with a "U". Perhaps from the McLauren surname. Most of us that I know sure act like Scotts.
I really don't know. Also check out the response I got on 6-3-00. Take care!
