Looking for information on Samuel Leeds who was born in NJ about 1799 and according to Census data lived in Washington/Shamong Twps. in Burlington County. He likely died around 1872.

His wife's name in the Census is Jane born abt. 1800 and probably died between 1860-1870.

There were at least three children (probably more): David C. (b. 1825); Caroline (b. 1828); Elizabeth (b. 1831).

David married Hannah Ann King in 1851 and died in 1865. The 1870 Census has his children Jane (1856) and Samuel (1858) living with their grandfather Samuel (1799) and aunt Elizabeth.

Caroline married John Severs.

Any info on any of these folks would be helpful but I am especially looking for parents of Samuel (1799) and maiden name and parents of Jane (1800).

Thanks,
Steve

Two of Daniel Leeds' anti-Quaker writings from the 1690s are available for free download from Google Books at http://tinyurl.com/yam3em . The writings are "News of a Trumpet Sounding in the Wilderness. Or, The Quakers Antient Testimony Revived, Examined" and "The Innocent Vindicated from the Falshoods & Slanders of Certain Certificates Sent from America". In "Trumpet Sounding", Daniel Leeds mentions his parent's religious practices (especially those of his mother - who unforntunately he does not appear to name) and his exposure to Quakerism through them. There might be some other information of genealogical interest as well.

Jerry

I live in the UK and my ancestors all derive from Kent, in particular from Benenden in Kent. I have teamed up with a second cousin also with the surname Leeds. Recently this cousin has had his Y Chromosome DNA analysed. There is of course no point my having my DNA analysed (except to confirm the validity of my cousin's results). What we are anxious to find is someone else who derives from our family tree, whose surname is Leeds and who has had his DNA analysed so that we can compare the results.

I have been doing family research on rootsweb and have come across the Harry Leeds family here in California.

My great-grandmother was best friends with Margaret E. Fickle Leeds and their children grew up together.

I have many pictures of Margaret, Harry Sr., Harry Jr., Ralph, Dorothy "Dolly" and another little girl named Rose Leeds.

As our families were friends and not related, I was wondering if anyone is aware of any living relatives of this family that my like to have all of these pictures?

Please advise. Thank you very much.

Betty J. Guthrie

I found what I was looking for and was able to trace my Leeds family line back thru from Abraham to Thomas Dutch Leeds, Cornelius, Solomon Japheth back to Daniel and his father Thomas from England. I would really like more specific info back into England.. did anyone ever go back that far?

Jimmie Leeds Road, Atlantic Co, NJ

I'm descended Thomas, Daniel, Japhet, Robert, Jonathan, Daniel, James, Amy, then several generations of Conovers.
I was recently in Atlantic Co, and was delighted to find Jimmie Leeds Road just north of Absecon. The books say it's named for an area landowner, a "lesser known relative" of the Jeremiah Leeds (Thomas, Daniel, Japhet, John) line which was instrumental in early Atlantic City.
Does anyone know which James Leeds was Jimmie Leeds, of the road?

Second question: My James Leeds lived 1794 to 1872, had 3 wives & lots of kids. He's buried at Absecon Presbyterian with wife #3 and 2 babies, one (Feb 24, 1839-Sep 8, 1839) by wife #2, Dorcas Adams, and one (July 15, 1842- Oct 21 1843) by wife #3, Martha Connelly. Both babies named Daniel Owen. Was there a third Daniel Owen Leeds who lived? One chart I have shows a birth year of 1844.

I'm especially interested because my g-g-grandfather, James L. Conover, named his first son Daniel Owen, and he would have been a contemporary of the 1844 Daniel Owen Leeds (who would have been his uncle). James Conover's family moved to Ohio in 1849 or 1850, and the Leeds family stayed in Absecon.

Third question: Does anyone know where the Leeds people in this line, but prior to James Leeds (and including his first 2 wives) were buried?

Just a quick "heads up" that I have recently posted ~47 Bible Records (with more yet to come), on "ROOTSWEB ATLANTIC COUNTY BIBLE SITE".(http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NJ/AtlanticBibl).
At the initial posting, I did not realize that most, if not all, concern the "LEEDS" family.
Though I am sure that most researchers probably know the information posted, I hoped that it may help someone.
All of the information......(so far), was copied from Family Bibles and collected by one "MARTHA KNOWLES COLLINS", from Hartford ,Connecticut in 1928 and 1929.
If I can be of any assistance, please feel free to contact me. That said, PLEASE!!!! be patient, as I do have other records that I will be posting, as time allows. Though I have no "direct" lineage to the "LEEDS" family, (....though everyone was connected in southern New Jersey at this time...), I felt that I needed to preserve this information in any way possible. I should also warn everyone, that since I am not a typist, and the records are somewhat hard to read, ERRORS MAY EXIST!!!! I have endeavored to be as exact as possible , and if there are any questions, please contact me.

Sincerely,
Ray Steelman
(SteelmanGen@aol.com)
February 23, 1864, Batavia, Clermont County, Ohio; m. to Ann Doughty. Clermont County Deed Book, I-2 (eye-2), page 437 specifies that the Middle Initial C stood for "COLLINS", and this was repeated elsewhere in the same book. On page 456 of I-2, his wife Ann Leeds purchased land from husband John Collins Leeds on September 15, 1835. At the time they lived in Tate Township.

Just discovered an unexpected lead (or "Leed"...) - my ggg-grandparents, John Longworth and Alice Loxum were married in 1859 in Adlington, Lancaster, England. The surprise was that John's father is listed as Daniel Leed, a quarry man. Witnesses to the marriage are listed as Alexander Leed and Ann Leed.

Does anyone have any links to this family?

Leeds - Cape May 1800

My 3rd great grandmother, Rachel Moore, married a Vincent Leeds in early 1800s probably in Saville Twp, Perry County, Pennsylvania. At that time Perry County would have been part of Cumberland County. I've been able to trace 5 Leeds children, William(1815-1878), Kesiah(1816-1837), Daniel(1822/3), Jane and Maria(1824-1883), from whom I'm descended.
Trying to find out if my Vincent Leeds came from New Jersey.
Census records show Vincent in Saville Twp in 1820, then I found a Vincent in Horsham Twp, Montgomery Co, PA in 1810, and finally a Vincent in Cape May, NJ in 1800.
Can anyone connect all three census records as the same Vincent Leeds?
Also, 1840 and 1850 census records show Rachel Leeds living with her son William, so I'm assuming Vincent died prior to 1840.
Thanks

My great, great grandmother was Audrey Wilson, born in CA (probably Kern County) in 1883. She married Harry Raymond Leeds *, a train engineer, about 1900 and had Lawrence W. Leeds in 1903 (m. Opal Boward) and Winifred Josephine Leeds in 1904. (m. C. Jack Butterfield, then Russell Bowen) She died in 1913 (family legend has it from consumption) and is buried at Union Cemetary in Bakersfield, CA. (he later married Bertha ___ from MO and had Lynn and Wilma Leeds)I can find nothing about her forebears or his. Can anyone help?

*Family legend has it that Harry Leed's real last name isn't Leeds, but Houghtaling. We have a b. of 1877 for him, but this may not be true as he supposedly lied about his age in order to enlist in the Span-Amer. War. He was mustered in in 1898 in Springfield, but he usually listed his birthplace as Cleveland, OH.

Leeds: 1620-1749

Thomas Leeds was born in Leeds, England ca 1620 and died in 1687 in Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, New Jersey. He had three sons. I have information on the descendants of Mary and her brother Samuel. Mary stayed in New Jersey; her husband died in the RW. The descendants of their only son migrated to Wisconsin and Michigan. One of Samuel's many descendants migrated to Fulton County, IL., where he died.

I am not related to Leeds. Mary b:1749 was my 7xGrand Uncle's mother. My ancestor was her husband's brother. .

Earliest Leeds information is here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~njleeds/d1173.htm

If you can *prove* a connection to Mary or Samuel contact me. I have much information on these two lines ONLY. Sorry, I don't have the time to do look-ups.

jaspergenie@hotmail.com

Looking for a Stafford who married a Leeds somewhere between Rhode Island and Ohio, between 1785 and 1820. I think.

I have a Stafford H. Leeds, who was born in Clermont County, Ohio, about 1820. He stated on later census documents that his father was from New Jersey and his mother from Rhode Island. I assume that Stafford's father migrated to Ohio via Pennsylvania along with other Leeds folks, and he may have stopped over in PA to get married. Or not.

Thanks

I am trying to decipher the ancestry of my 3g-grandmother, Kiziah WELLS (1832-1910). She married John GILBERT in January 1850. Kiziah's parents were Richard WELLS (c1796-1879) and Acsah (c1800-1870). The family lived in the Bridgeboro area of Chester/Cinnaminson/Delran, in Burlington County, New Jersey.

In her Civil War widow's pension application, Kiziah had an affadavit dated 6 September 1906 from Albert LEEDS, who wrote:
I am 62 years of age, occupation farmer, P.O. add. Bridgeboro NJ. I served in Co G 23rd NJ Vols and in Co E 4th NJ Vols. I knew John GILBERT, the former husband of this claimant, all my life. His wife, this claimant, was a first cousin of mine.

I have had no luck connecting my Richard WELLS to the huge volume of data available for the WELLS family, and I don't even know the surname of Kiziah's mother Acsah. Any clues would be greatly appreciated! I would love to determine how I am related to the LEEDS family.

Mike Gilbert

Livingston Leeds-NYC father of Dorothy Allaire Leeds

Can anyone give me some information on a Livingston Leeds who was born in NYC April 16, 1885. He married Reggie Leeds (think her maiden name was allaire or crawford) and she was born December 23, 1892 in Jonesboro, TN. They only had one child who was my grandmother Dorothy Allaire Leeds. I am new to geneology research and I found my greatgrandparents birthdates on the Ellias Island website. Can anyone suggest another place to look? I know they lived in Pelum Manor, NY in 1924. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

I have 1860 census info. for the family of Samuel Leeds and wife Sarah B.. Samuel and Sarah are born in NJ but their children, starting in 1846, are born in Michigan. The last of their eight children is 3mos old in 1960 - at the time of this census and the family is back in Ocean Co., Union Twp. I'm chasing Martha Leeds, in particular, and if anyone has any info, I'd be interested. Also,if anyone thinks their Leeds ancestor might be in this family, I'll be happy to pass the info along.
Thank You - Terri

New Leeds Family Website; Free

Hi,
You are all invited to my family website; Descendants of Thomas Leeds. It is still under construction, but I will be adding more in the future.
Eventually, I'd like to list all the descendants of Thomas Leeds [1620, England], exluding living persons and those recently deceased of course, due to privacy/internet safety issues.

Please feel free to share your own branch, and it will be added at a later date, with a notation of the source included. If you have your own Leeds family website, feel free to drop me a line, and we can exchange links!
I strive for accuracy, but some of my records differ with LDS; I chose what I thought was the most accurate.
The majority of my own line comes from family bible records.

It is free and will remain that way.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~njleeds/index.html

Enjoy,
Carole

I would appreciate any help you can give me on the subject.
We are trying to find the parents names of Learner B. Leeds who was born in,we believe, Clermont County, Ohio on July 20, 1817 and died on Oct.5,1887.
