As a response to Finau, my research led me to a common name of Leiataua. He was also known as Piliopo. That name i believe is in Tongan history together with Pea. Leiataua was also known as Pea in Samoa.

Well, my full name is Faafeao Leiataua from the Leiataua-Lesa lineage (Manono as well) & I'm from Auckland, NZ. Where abouts in NZ do you reside?

My parents are Silivelio (or Sefo) & Filo Leiataua. I'm from the Leiataua-Lesa lineage. A lot of our extended family are over here in New Zealand & I only know of one family member in the states, just don't know where. That is, my father's brother (or my uncle) of whom I'm named after. Get back with your lineage. Just curious as to what ends of the globe our family stretches. Fa la ia.

I am looking for an ancester of mine that went by the name of Leiataua that originally came from Manono, Samoa and moved to Tonga c1800s. Its early days, so I do not know if his name was Ngongo Leiataua.

My quest to find this particulary Leiataua (Ngongo) is because three of my ancestors in Tonga use the matapule name of "Lei" short for Leiataua. My father's father's father's family are referred to as "ha'a 'o Lei" - Lei's clan.

I would really appreciate it if you can share some information with me as I'm looking to draft up a family tree. I'm planning to visit Tonga, Samoa and Fiji .. and scope the archives in libraries there so I'm happy to share what I have.

Faka'apa'apa atu
C. Finau

My grandfather, Si'u Sasa Leiataua was born in Manono supposedly. I know he was born in 1900. When I was young he told me that he had gone to live in Tonga and went to school there staying with the supposed Royal Family. I don't know if this is true or not. I also was told that we have family with the surname Tuipelehake whom might be able to elaborate and shed light on this for me. I don't know anything really about my grandfathers supposed Tongan family. Maybe if you have any other info concerning his Su'apaia side as well this may help me. He did have an older sister Nele that he lived with, there in Tonga or something to that effect. If any of you can give me some insight I would greatly appreciate it. He spoke Tongan, and back in the early 70's I do remember when the King of Tonga came to Los Angeles he stopped by with some family members and visisted my grandfather for a few days. If anyone else knows anything about Siu Sasa Leiataua please email me and drop me a line. I would love to hear from any of you.

Ngongo Leiataua

To C. Finau:
Where in Tonga are you from? Ngongo Leiataua settled in Veitongo. He came to Tonga during the civil war periods -- Tupou1. We heard he participated in the war at PEA and that's how he ended up at Veitongo. He was married to 'eiki 'o Longoteme -- Fifi, and got an only daughter -- that's why the name Fifi is in Veitongo.

Ngongo Leiataua, had a son or grandson named Tavaletau who went back to Samoa at late 1800's. He brought back a baby from Samoa named Lui Siliva and adopted him as his son. He also had other natural sons, one was named Sulio. Sulio had a son also named Lui Siliva Leiataua after his adopted uncle. This Lui Siliva is my grandfather. The other Lui Siliva -- the full blooded Samoan had grandsons who are still living at Veitongo. One is Falakiko Lui.
