John Edward Lodge - Ireland + England

Looking for info on family of John Edward Lodge b 1848 St Mary, Ireland. Father was Francis Lodge. Married Elizabeth Blanche Pettifer in Rugby, Warwickshire in 1872. Living in Portsmouth, Hampshire as per 1881, 1891,+ 1901 censuses. Children were Helina B Lodge b 1875, Marguerite Louise Lodge b 1878, Eva J Lodge b 1881, Edward Lodge b 1884. Family legend has it that there is a connection to English physicist Oliver Joseph Lodge b 1851 but I have not been able to find it, and can find no further info on the above Lodges to either disprove or prove it.

There Were Lodges in Albany, More Guilderland area than Delmar. There was and is a LOdge street in Albany and a Lodge store. No longer connected to any Lodges - interesting old place though. There was a fancy city residence and branch of the faimly and a farm with another whole crop. My Husbands Grandparents are likely the generation after the one you seek info on. This generation has spread throughout Albany, Schenectady, and Schoharie counties, branching from there. Some are up around Cornell University, some down in New Jersey and there are some in Calafornia. I would be interested in Information you have gathered.

LODGE: in Hammersmith, London - c.1905

My suspected father, Christopher Henry Lodge Thomas was the son of Christopher Henry Thomas and Lilla Maud Lodge b. 1881 or 1882, who was the daughter of Stephen Lodge a Fruit Salesman who died prior to 1905, presumably in Hammersmith.

Christopher and Lilla Maud Lodge married in Wandsworth, London, 4th March 1905. A witness was an H Lodge, possibly Lilla Maud's widowed mother, or a sibling.

Does anyone know ANYTHING about Stephen Lodge, H Lodge, or Lilla Maud Thomas (nee Lodge)?

Thanks,

Best regards,

RouX

yes I have information about them they had 9 children including Alice, Samuel, Kate, Florence, Frank, William, Emily, Elsie, Ernest.

Walter was born in 1851 and is the son of Samuel and Harriet, Ann, Jane, Francis and Emily.

Walter was a railway guard born in Highnam, Gloucestershire in 1825 and in 1861 was living at 36 Prince Street, Barton St Mary. in 1851 they lived at number 29 and in 1881 they lived in No 30.

I think Samuel may be the son of John and Hannah Clutterbuck and was christened on the 20th Feb 1825 in Churcham, Cloucestershire.

Hannah, Mary, Edith and Sarah may have all been syblings of Samuel.

I hope this helps

Hi,

I'm trying to find my father.

It's looking like he was a man called Christopher Henry Lodge-Thomas, b.1909, the illegitimate son of Arthur Harvey Lodge and Sarah Elizabeth Thomas. They (and my birth Mother) all came from the West Lavington and Easterton areas of Wiltshire, UK.

ONLY yDNA matching can solve this. Do any Lodge males here know their yDNA haplogroup?

regards,

RouX (possibly) Lodge

UPDATE:

(Arthur) Harvey Lodge was a pig farmer.

He may be the father of my suspected father, Christopher Henry Lodge-Thomas, b.1909 in West Lavington, Devizes, Wiltshire.

This Lodge line comes down from CANN, near Shaftesbury in Dorset. The family had been there at least from the 1700s, probably earlier.

The line may be connected to Lodge family members around the Portsmouth / Southampton area in Hampshire, UK. It is possibly an early line from the ancestral home, Loges in Normandy, France.

Does anyone here KNOW they are descended from the Cann, Southampton, or Normandy Lodges?

regards,

RouX (possibly) Lodge

My great great grandfather, John Harris Lodge, born in 1832 in Manchester, Engalnd immigrated to America in 1849 and settled in Philadelphia. Married Hannah Thomas Gaul. Naturalized in 1863. Do not know if he came over by himself or with other family members. The trail ends there. His father maybe Thomas Lodge. No record of Thomas being in America. No help with 1832 birth records in England. He and Hannah had daughters, Clara who married a sulger and Amanda who married a Wallen. John and Hannah and their daughter Clara are buried in Fernwood Cemetery outside of Philadelphia. Lodges in Salem and Cumberland Counties in South Jersey are related to John Harris Lodge.

Terry Lodge tmlodge@hotmail.com

Hello K Gould,

If you care to send me your email address, I'd be glad to send you a pdf file in Family Tree Maker format of a number of Lodges who are joined to my Hobbs tree via the said Jane Hobbs. I got the bulk of this ages ago from a source I now forget - I initially thought it was a person named Gould, but probably I'm mistaken! In any case, you are welcome to what I have.
David Hobbs, New Zealand

Hi

This is the era when things get a little confusing and it is easy to go wrong, especially as there are so many Lodges in the geographical area concerned and it was not uncommon for the census takers or indeed the individuals concerned to make mistakes. I need to go through it all again but the following is my current state of research.

Although I use the IGI at times all of my thread is supported by original records or transcripts of the originals. If you send me you e mail addressI can send the following as a word document which will contain the footnotes. As you can see it is mainly a conversation with myself - I hope this helps

Jeremy

------------
Lodge

John Lodge

John was born in Skelmanthorpe in 1808. He married Martha Rushworth, from Sandal, in January 1841. Martha had no occupation listed at that time. Martha’s father, Samuel Rushforth was a joiner. Both John and Martha were listed as of ‘full age’ (i.e. over 21). John’s father, Thomas Lodge, is recorded as a farmer.

In 1845 John and Martha had their third son Samuel, who became ‘Samuel Lodge Carting Agent’ of Wakefield in the late 1800’s.

John was born Skelmanthorpe which is covered by the Parishes of Clayton West & High-Hoyland, Emley and Kirkburton. There are many Lodge’s in these Parish records.

Thomas Lodge and Elizabeth Hampshire

On 13th March 1808 Emley Parish recorded the christening of John Lodge son of Thomas and Elizabeth Lodge. Which falls within the range of indicated birth dates for our John.

Thomas (born in 1782), an Agricultural Labourer married  Elizabeth Hampshire  (born 1786) in Emley on 10th October 1807.  The marriage was witnesses by Joseph Kaye and Mary Moody.  It appears (according to a trawl of IGI and Parish records) that their children included;

John (March 1808)
Thomas (March 1808)
William (March 1812)
Betty (Dec 1809)
George (Oct 1819)

The 1841 census for Taylor Hill, Emley shows:

Thomas Lodge (aged 75 – b 1766) agricultural labourer,
Elizabeth Lodge (aged 55 – b 1782)
George (b 1821) a Weaver
Thomas Edwin (b 1827) a Weaver
Mary Ann (b 1832)

is this the same family but again with some age inaccuracies in the census taking or a grandfather Thomas??

In the local registers I have not found a Thomas son of Thomas so is this unlikely to be a grandfather Thomas? If the age was circa 60 not 75 then it would be our Thomas Lodge but both the 7 and the 5 are clearly written.

Thomas Lodge and Elizabeth

There are the following children reported in the IGI of a Thomas Lodge and Elizabeth (However, Elizabeth’s surname/maiden name is not given):

George* 1819	Emley
Jesse 1837	Emley
MaryAnn* 1833	Emley
Joseph 1817	Emley
Mary 1824	Emley
Thomas 1821	Emley
Thomas Edwin* 1826	Emley

------------
