Alexander LOS b. Poland abt 1876 d. USA 1962

I am seeking any information on my grandfather Alexander LOS, Sr. He was born about 1876 in Bialystok, Poland, married in 1903, and emigrated to the USA via Hamburg, Germany, in February 1905. His wife Leonja (Leocadia?) GELOMB (Gelombiewska?) and son Walter (b. June 1904, not sure of Polish spelling) emigrated in May 1905.

Alexander LOS, Sr., was a carpenter by trade, and had been in the Polish cavalry. The family settled in Lodi, NJ, and had three more children: Leocadia (Laurette) b. 1906, Janina b. 1908 and Alexander, Jr., b. 1910. By the 1950s, my grandparents lived in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ.

Any and all information about my grandparents and their parents or siblings
will be much appreciated! Please leave message here or directly at duchess@speakeasy.org.

Thanks!

~~Cadia

He or his wife may have had a cousin named Stella GROMAN who arrived in USA in June 1907.

Did your grandfather have a sister named Mary and a brother named Joseph? I do not know where my great grandmother was born. Some of her siblings (that I know about)settled in Chalfont, PA, some in Philadelphia, PA and some stayed in Poland. Please email me if any of this sounds familiar!!

My grandmother's name was Bertha Skwara who married a George Los. They had lived in Trenton, NJ; then moved to Morrisville, PA.
I've been trying to find out more about my grandmother's place of birth.

Did Bertha have relation (maybe Sister)
with a Pauline Skwara Turek in Trenton?

Thanks

Turek

I'm certain that we were related to the Tureks in Trenton. Mom told me they were my cousins---but I know that Beth was not my mother's sister--but may have been my grandmother's.

Helen Turek was another relative, I think. I can ask my Mom. (She'll be 85 this October.

I forgot to mention---my mother's name is Bertha as was her mother's. Mom was known as Stephanie, I think, as well.

Joann, I just spoke to my fil and he confirms
that your grandmother Bertha is a sister to
his mother Pauline. There was another sister
Eleanor and a brother Stanley. He knows your
mother too.

Please e-mail privately to get the other
information I got from him.

Joann,
I am following up on my sister's post Re: Alexander Los Sr (our grandfather). You mentioned in your followup a possible brother Joseph or sister Mary. I don't know about his siblings, but I recently discovered that his father's name was Joseph Los, his mother Francresca Zubriski. ANy posibility they are the parent's of your Joseph Los and Mary Los?

Camilla Los

PS By the way I came across his parent's names by getting a copy of his application for a social security card in 1942. They require that you list name's of parents even if they are no longer living.
