Hi,

I am one of the coordinators of the New Orleans rootsweb site. I was just transcribing some coroner's records for our site and came across a Thoams Los who died in New Orleans in April 1863. The records says he was 74 years old and a native of Manilla. Can anyone connect with him? Let me know. I have a little more info - not much, but I can point you in some directions you might look for more.

He might not have been born in Manilla - he may have worked as a seaman and was most recetnly from Manilla.

My email address is CFitzp@aol.com.

Colleen Fitzpatrick

I am seeking any information on my grandfather Alexander LOS, Sr. He was born about 1876 in Bialystok, Poland, married in 1903, and emigrated to the USA via Hamburg, Germany, in February 1905. His wife Leonja (Leocadia?) GELOMB (Gelombiewska?) and son Walter (b. June 1904, not sure of Polish spelling) emigrated in May 1905.

Alexander LOS, Sr., was a carpenter by trade, and had been in the Polish cavalry. The family settled in Lodi, NJ, and had three more children: Leocadia (Laurette) b. 1906, Janina b. 1908 and Alexander, Jr., b. 1910. By the 1950s, my grandparents lived in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ.

Any and all information about my grandparents and their parents or siblings
will be much appreciated! Please leave message here or directly at duchess@speakeasy.org.

Thanks!

~~Cadia

He or his wife may have had a cousin named Stella GROMAN who arrived in USA in June 1907.

Joann,
I am following up on my sister's post Re: Alexander Los Sr (our grandfather). You mentioned in your followup a possible brother Joseph or sister Mary. I don't know about his siblings, but I recently discovered that his father's name was Joseph Los, his mother Francresca Zubriski. ANy posibility they are the parent's of your Joseph Los and Mary Los?

Camilla Los

PS By the way I came across his parent's names by getting a copy of his application for a social security card in 1942. They require that you list name's of parents even if they are no longer living.

HI
Don't forget that in germany/Poland, the names were frequently changed as far as spelling.
By limiting yourself to only one Surname option, you may miss out on research!
Los is, as far as I can tell by my own research, a possible variant of Loose, Lose, Loosen, Lohse, Loze
My line is Loose, and I've found documents that have four different siblings of the same parents, all with different spellings of the surname.

Good Luck!

my family is from Schlawe, Pomern.
If anybody has a Carl August, Martin Frederick, or Freidrich, please let me know.
tnks! :)
ktiede@hotmail.com
