Now I now where all the Magruders are! Here's my problem: I have two "Samuel Wade Magruders" in Maryland. One (1708 Charles Co, MD - 1792?) married Lucy Beall (1738-1795). The other Samuel Wade Magruder (1728 Prince Georges Co, MD -1792?) married Mary Beall. First, I'm suspicious that they would both have the same date of death. Second, it's a little coincidental that their respective wives have the same surname. And third, I've received so many contradictory posts that I'm not sure who their respective children are ... or even if they're different people!! Please help. If anyone can confirm the existence of two "Samuel Wade Magruder" living in Maryland about the same time, I would LOVE to see your info on them. I really appreciate it!

Kevin, I can probably throw in some more confusion. I was provided a Descendant Chart by, at the time, an unknown relative. It indicates that a Sam W. b. abt 1687 d. abt 1779 married Eleanor Wade. They, according to this chart had son Sam W. b. 2/24/1708 d. abt. 1786 married a Jane Haswell. I also show a Samuel Burton Magruder b.? d.? married to a Margaret Beall (Jackson) they married abt. 1729. She was born 1712 and d. abt 1806 in Maryland. She got her name Jackson from a previous marriage according to what I've found. Looks like the water got muddier. I am allegedly descended from Samuel and Eleanor Wade.

I show Samuel and Sarah (Beall) Magruder did have son named James Beall Magruder b. 1/25/1697 d. 7/1765 and was married to Barbara Coombs. According to what I've located they had a daughter named Sarah b. 4/17/1728 d. ?. Sarah married Nathaniel Offutt. I did not know of son James Reed Magruder. James, according to what I've found, was one of at least 12 children of Sam and Sarah.

Thomas HARRIS also married to Sarah HALL. The source for that marriage is "The History/Families of Bullitt Co, Pg 88. That source says that Thomas came to KY with his second wife, Sara, which is presumedly Sarah HALL, since the Hall's and HARRIS' traveled to KY together:

Thomas' name appeared in the 1787 census in Louisa Co, VA. Shortly thereafter, a party of pioneers left VA for a journey into the "dark and bloody grounds" of KY. The p[arty consisted of the HALL, Stringer, Paris, and HARRIS families. Thomas' family consisted of his second wife, Sara HALL, and at least two sons and five daughters. They came to a fort in or near Lexington, KY, and remained until the Indians departed sometime after 1788. They then forged on to Bullitt County and bough 1400 acres from the Johnson family on the Salt River (south side in Bullitt, then Nelson Co) which was divided among the families.

Made May 5, 1809

In the name of God Amen, I Nathaniel Craufurd of PRINCE Georges County in
the State of Maryland being of Sound and disposing mind memory and
understanding do make and ordain this my Last will and testament in
manner and form following, that is to say-- Imprimis. I will and
direct that all my Estate both real and personal shall be kept together
by my Executors herein after named untill my Son Thomas Blackburn Craufurd
shall arrive to the age of twenty two years. During which period all
the crops made on my different plantations and other profits thence
arising as also the crop or crops on hand at the time of my decease
shall be applied to the discharge of my just debts except what may be
necessary for the Maintenance and Suppport and Education of my wife and

at the end of the twentieth line of Greenwood PARK enlarged and running
with the twenty first Lines of Greenwood PARK, and also the lines of
Greenwood PARK enlarged in Succession to the Land purchased of the Heirs
of Basil Warring Deceased, then with the Lines of Greenwood PARK and
Greenwood PARK enlarged until it intersects a South Line drawn from the
aforesaid Stone, supposed to contain about Seven hundred and fifty-five
acres together with my dwelling House and all other Improvement thereon,

I've looked over your Samuel Wade Magruder info. I'm really not sure why this interests me so because, even though ALL Magruders are related, I don't directly descend from Samuel Wade. I suppose I just don't like contradictory information. In any event, the Magruder you show as married to Eleanor Wade you indicate is named Samuel Wade Magruder. However, I show Eleanor Wade
s (b. 1707 - d. ?) husband as Samuel Magruder II (1687 - 1779). I show THEIR son to be Samuel Wade Magruder,which seems logical ... taking the father's given name and the mother's maiden name as his middle name. This Samuel Wade Magruder (1708 - 1792)(son of Samuel Magruder II) I showed married Lucy Beall (1738 - 1795). So, I guess were back to square one because, obviously, Samuel Magruder II can't be his own son!
So ... who is Samuel Wade Magruder? When was he born? Who did he marry? Were there more than one Samuel Wade Magruder living in, or around, the same time in approximately the same area?

I was just reporting what had been provided to me. I have not been able to verify any of it. I am just putting this out as given to me, nothing more. I sit and scratch my head alot since our relatives used the same names over and over again. Not to mention the intermarrying thing. I have found a Samuel Wade Magruder that has his name inscribed on the American Immigrant Wall of Honor at Ellis Island. I have yet to find out who had it put there. This info can be found at www.wallofhonor.com. Even though there is much confusion, useful information is sometimes gleaned from this.

Hello, Joan. If you descended from a Magruder, then we're related ... all Magruders are related. Now, back to the information you've provided. It doesn't make much sense. You see, I've got TWO Samuel Wade Magruders in my database. I don't know if they're different people or the same person. According to the info you gave, Samuel Wade Magruder married Lucy Beall and you say Samuel's mother was Anne Wade. However, I show THIS Samuel Wade's mother to be an Eleanor Wade, wife of Samuel Magruder II (1687-1779). The "other" Samuel Wade Magruder I have I show being born in 1728 to Alexander Magruder (1706-1784) and Anne Wade. This Samuel Wade Magruder married a Mary Beall. So ... two Samuel Wade Magruders ... both with mothers named "Wade" and both married to women named "Beall". Can this be? HELP?!

Hi Joan,
I am a beginner at this so forgive errors in dates etc. According to what I have been able to locate Samuel Wade Magruder was born about 1728 in Prince George County, Md. and died in July of 1792. You have him married in or about 1732 making him 4 years old. Either you or I have some bad dates. I will do some more checking. As for being related, I guess we are in agreement that our common ancestor would be Samuel Magruder and Sarah Beall the parents of Alexander and his brother Samuel who married Eleanor Wade. Samuel b. abt.1687 d. abt. 1779 and his wife Eleanor Wade b. abt. 1690 d. abt. 1779 would be my 6ggrandparents. This if what I've learned is true. With all the discrepancies out there one thing is fairly certain. All Magruders are linked to Alexander who came here circa 1652 from Scotland. Kevin, that has acknowledged several of my past postings, seems quite knowledgable about the Magruder line. Some of his postings have lead me to corroborative findings elsewhere on the web.
