Thomas' name appeared in the 1787 census in Louisa Co, VA. Shortly thereafter, a party of pioneers left VA for a journey into the "dark and bloody grounds" of
KY. The p[arty consisted of the
HALL, Stringer, Paris, and
HARRIS families. Thomas' family consisted of his second wife, Sara
HALL, and at least two sons and five daughters. They came to a fort in or near Lexington,
KY, and remained until the Indians departed sometime after 1788. They then forged on to Bullitt County and bough 1400 acres from the Johnson family on the Salt River (south side in Bullitt, then Nelson Co) which was divided among the families.
