OK, maybe I just figured this out. I didn't notice that Alpheus and William both had a son within a couple years of each other and named them George W or George Washington.
Thank You so much for your support.

I doubt that, but I will give it a try and I'll let you know if I do. So far I know that we come from Scottland. It's looking like Tannahills went to Canada from Scottland, but I haven't found a tie there yet. I've really only just begun. I did just find something interesting though. It appears that their may be two George W Tannahills' in the same town born within a couple years of each other. One says parents are both from Ohio and the other says Dad is from Indiana and Mother from Ohio. They both were in Liberty Woodward Oklahoma in the same decade with two different wives and two children one from each wife. I'll be checking for death and marriage licenses. Did you run across this information and have you already resolved the conflict?

Well, we do know that Magruder Tannahill's first name came from the Magruder family. There were alot of marriages between the Magruders and Tannahills. However, Magruder Tannahill has been, at least until the publication of our book, very elusive. I and other researchers never did find out his parents or any other information about him. Sorry, I hope you have better luck than I did.

All which I have still to sort into 3 different groups. Glanced at some of the data I had downloaded and found I didn't download the entire wills that I c ame across, because I only looking for the names of the [Magruders children to see which one of the Magruders I thought we belong to.
So would be glad to talk with you about this but want to get my stuff in order first.I live in Charles County Maryland, are we near each other at all?

My father was Walter B. Magruder,Lewis Magruder was his father. The Gregor Clan Society had looked my father up and we went back to Alexander Magruder who was the first Magruder to be sent here to Maryland. They were all here in Maryland. John Magruder of Dunblane had a home on Westphila Rd in Forestville have a picture of the home but there was a fire and it burned to the ground. Sure they all had slaves. Like I said there was alot of info on some of the slaves because the Magruder children inherited certain slaves from their parents in their wills. So do not know if any of these names would help you.
On my husband's side of the family two have suddenly made their sites private,so I can'te get any help from thhose sites and I am wondering if it is because they saw I was working on our line. I have a mullatto grandson. Who is wonderful and a terrific son-in-law. All the white boys treated my daughter terrible, and they were either drunks or dope fools. My son-in-law does neither and comes from a good family and we are close. iF THEY CLOSE THEM BECAUSE OF US,THEY ARE THE FOOLS. Who knows we may be related. You can contact me at chaospup@comcast.net. The slave census if I recall correctly only show numbers of slaves, not any names. I am 76 and all this hunting is driving my blood pressure sky high,my daughter wants me to stop. Have stacks of research I have printed for which ever grandchild decides to follow up on this family tree. Good luck with your search.

Thanks you for your info. I do know about the name for us as mulatto. I love getting this connection. I have traced this family name to Maryland and may have come thru from Virginia where I believe the plantation owners name was Magruder. What state are you from? I am here in Maryland where most connections came from that I was able to find. I am 69 and have 7 other b&s. We are planning a family reunion next year but are having a large picnic this Aug. to get intouch w/all we can. Please send me more info if you care to about you. Thanks again!

I am a Magruder, and supose to have Indian blood. On Indian Tribe site, thought I read Indian and white blood would be listed as mullato on census. Found in one Census a family listed as mullato and 10 years later the same family was listed as black. So I am having trouble,so guess you will have same problem. One way you might find some help,is to read wills, you were consider property and were listed in their wills when they gave their daughter or sons some of their slaves. Which I found so horrifying. But if you find a specific Magruder line, check their wills for some of your people, might help you. Lots of luck looking,Iam 76 years old so tend to forget where I find stuff, usually by accident. Not as swift as I use to be.

Anyone interested in the Magruder family should check out the book "An American Life, One Man's Road to Watergate" by Jeb Stuart Magruder.
While this book is an autobiography by Jeb Stuart Magruder about being a Special Assistant to President Nixon and his involvement in Watergate, it also contains some interesting history on the family. Such as his great-grandfather, Thomas Jefferson Magruder being a Confederate agent and smuggling shoes in hearses from the District of Columbia across the Potomac during the Civil War.

The book was published in 1974 but you can find it on the internet.

I remember seeing that in one of the yearbooks of the American Clan Gregor Society,of which I was a member many years ago. The members belonging to this clan descend from Alexander MacGregor/Magruder(1610-1677)born in Dunblane, Perthshire, Scotland. He came to Maryland about 1651/62 and settled in Calvert County. It is not unusual that Joanne Woodward would be a descendant. How about Greta Garboe? She is also a descendant.

Mrs. E. G. (Betty) Magruder Obituary (1955)

Mrs. Magruder, Historian, To Be Buried Tomorrow

Mrs. E. G. (Betty) Magruder, an unreconstructed rebel who reveled in the lore of the Confederacy, died here at 10:10 a.m. Thursday at the home at 103 Howard St. Historian of the Mountain Remnant Brigade and once in the same capacity for the Texas Daughters of the Confederacy, Mrs. Magruder's collection of information about the War Between the States was among the most comprehensive here. She had been engaged in recent years in writing a history of the Texas Navy.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. James Leavell officiating. Her husband, the late Dr. E. G. Magruder, died Oct. 5, 1929 and burial will be beside him.

Mrs. Magruder resided here with a daughter, Margaret, but two other surviving daughters, Mrs. Hazel M. Baskerville of Dallas and Mrs. Dorothy M. Buchanan of Bryan, had been here for the lsat three weeks during the time of their mother's most critical illness. A son H. Ward Magruder, resides at Houston, but he will be unable to come to the funeral because of the illness of his wife.

Mrs. Magruder had been in ailing health for the last 10 years. In the last four she had been unable to be outside the house.

Mrs. Magruder was one of the prime movers in the conduct of the reunions of the Mountain Remnant Brigade, once numbering quite a colony of survivors of the War Between the States. She never would tolerate it being called the Civil War. These reunions, held on the courthouse lawn here and at Christoval at the old Baptist encampment grounds, brought some of the Union soldiers into the fellowship. And sometimes the arguments would develop into another hot war.

In these instances Mrs. Magruder has been known to step between the "combatants" and to soothe their wounded feelings.

As a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, she was an avid historian and collector of bibliography on the war. She regaled friends with stories of the conflict on many occasions. She was born in 1870, but her father and other members of the family supplied stories that since were written into some of the papers she wrote. Her collection of old papers of the war was extensive, and her memory of them remained clear until in recent years.

Mrs. Magruder's father settled Ward Bend, a small community named in his honor near Houston. When the war ended his Negroes stayed faithfully with the family. During the Reconstruction Era, Texas suffered perhaps less than the residents of other states, Mrs. Magruder often recalled.

The UDC chapter here dwindled in membership after the Confederate reunions ceased, but Mrs. Magruder kept it alive in the stories she accumulated.

Some of her earlier newspaper collections carried stories of runaway slaves, reports of the capture of the "rebel and renegade" Jeff Davis, of Sherman's march through Georgia, and acocunts of food supplies furnished by Texas, the bread basket of the South. She had in her possession also the wood of a gun used by a brother of the late John R. Nasworthy during the war.

Mrs. Magruder came here with her husband July 14, 1906. Dr. Magruder built an eight bed tuberculosis sanatorium near their home that same year. There was nothing but mesquite brush and sand on the property surrounding the home at that time. Wolves and coyotes howled and ran across the area.

Mrs. Magruder once wrote editorial comment for a San Angelo newspaper, long since defunct, and she could not recall the name in later years. She also taught Sunday School classes in the First Baptist Church for many years.

I have just started my new search on the Eisenhours & Magruders, so I can't confirm much. I haven't found any evidence either way on children for Philip & Anna (she's also listed as Anne). It appears they also raised Harry's children, Philip & Noah Eisenhour. As far as being related to Ike, I don't know. The Eisenhours have been listed as Icenhour, Eisinhour, Eisenhauer & Eisenhaur, which makes it all very confusing!! If I come across anything, I will let you know. Do you have any info that would help me? Thanks, Lynn

Did you find your Aunt Anna? If not, I do have some information on Philip & Anna Eisenhour. They are both buried in Pleasantview Cemetery in Dacoma, OK. The children you have listed for Philip & Anna are Philip & Lizzie Elizabeth (Lisa) Magruder Eisenhour's. Anna was Philip's 2nd wife and raised Philip & Lisa's children. At the time of Lisa's death the children were 16,13,10,7 & under 1. Lisa died in 1885 & Philip & Anna were married later that year in Pratt, KS. I have a copy of the marriage license. Please contact me if you need more. Lynn

Ninian Beall Jr. 2. William Beall <who I believe outlived John Pottinger>) not mentioned in will of John Pottinger. This daughter Elizabeth, how do you 'prove' she married John Pottinger and that this J.P.'s wife was not another Elizabeth Magruder (NOT daughter of Alex & Eliz Magruder).???
