Looking for any info on Thomas M. McCann, who married Catherine (Katie) Flannigan, from Amenia NY, in 1891. He was born in 1868 in Pawling NY in Dutchess county. He died in 1913 in White Plains. His father was James who died in 1914. Not sure of his mothers name. May have been Mary nee Scully. There's a James and Mary McCann in 1870-80 in Patterson, Putname NY with a son thomas of right birth year. Its about 3 miles to Pawling from there. His siblings might be Robert, Lizzie, Ellen, David and Ida but don't know anything about them.

Alice CANN born in Ireland in 1888

I am desperately trying to trace my great grandmothers family. She was born in Ireland in 1888 as Alice McCann, her father was Patrick McCann she moved to Liverpool England and married John Thomas Fleming. I found one possible birth certificate but am completely unable to verify it. I cannot find where in ireland she was born on any census details. Her death certificate does not state a place of birth or date of birth. What other records could I use here in England to track her down in Ireland?

Felix McCann (McLean?) born 1836, County Armagh, Ireland

I am looking for any possible information about Felix McCann (or McLean?)who was born in 1836 in County Armagh, Ireland. He emigrated to NZ sometime before 1886 at which time his surname was recoded as McLean. He married Mary Mitchell-Moore (Mitchelmore?) and their children were Nora Elizabeth, Roger Frederick Repton, Alva George, Felix Alcana, Linda Agatha, Deborah, Evelyn Isabel. I am lead to believe that Felix was the son of a Squire and was sent out to the Colonies as punishment for getting a local girl into trouble. Felix worked in the wool trade and travelled at least to Australia with some regularity. I am very keen to hear from anyone who may know anything about Felix or his wife.

Tracing illegitimate children

Hi, my great granmother Alice McCann born 1888 had a child out of wedlock. I was wondering if it is possible to find the baby she had, I know that the baby was forcibly taken from her and given to a 'good catholic family', so would it have been registered a McCann or due to the illegitimate nature of the pregnancy would it have been given away without record? I think she used to call out for a boy named thomas. She married in 1910.

His fathers birth date was on his birth certificate. In 1938 Walter was shown to be 31 years old.

My friend was raised by his mothers sister after his father died in 1945. His Aunt told him his father was born in Springfield Illinois and that he was a merchant sailor. He may have arrived in Australia in the early 1930's and jump ship.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Steve North
Queensland Australia

My grandfather Franklin McCann was born in Harrisburg, PA on Nov. 27, 1877. His mother was Deborah McCann. Franklin was the eldest of 6 or 7 children. He left home around the age of 15 (1892) and joined the Merchant Marines. He ended up on the island of Guam where he married my grandmother Rita Agoun. My father was their only child, Marvel Agoun McCann, born July 13, 1919. Since my grandfather never returned to PA and to my knowledge had no contact with his family of origin, we have no information about our PA relatives. I am sure I have many McCann relatives that I would love to know about. Any shared knowledge would be very much appreciated - Thanks!

I have both of them and their children (Blanche, Annabel, Victoria Marguerite, Marshall, Orville, Sylvester, Charlotte Marie, and Mary Mildred) on census records 1900 in Toledo, Ohio,1910 Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana. Frederick died in a quarry accident in 1910, and Clara had to put her children in the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Greencastle, Putnam Co., IN since she had no way to support them. On her children's applications, she lists Jacob McCann, the children's grandfather, as a veteran of the Civil War, Co.
McCann Irish origins?

I have been told that many Irish surnames are primarily found in certain counties in Ireland. Is there any particular area that the McCann name is more prevalent? Tho I am sure I will never find more information about my ancestor it would be interesting to visit the area that was populated by McCanns when we go to Ireland next year.

'My' McCann was John, born about 1821 in either PA or WV. He married Martha Swan in Tyler Co, West Virginia in 1848 and they had four daughters, Viola, Theodosia, Capitola and Lonia. John disappears after the 1860 census and his widow and children are found living in Guernsey Co, Ohio in 1870.

McCanns in OK?

Hi- I am a little stumped here, so maybe someone has some information that can help me! I am Kathleen McCann, my father was Gerald L. McCann, born in Hooker, OK in 1920. His mother was Nellie Welker. As she told me this when I was a teenager and was not paying as much attention as I should have been, the facts that I have are few...she told me that my father's father died of pneumonia a year or so after my fathers' birth- that would place his death in 1921 or 1922...I am fairly sure she told me his name was Robert McCann, but I am not sure. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks so much, Kate

I wanted to read all threads before posting but I quickly found out that might take forever, so here are some of my McCanns and I hope something sounds familiar to someone.
(I saw Janell McCann mentioned in an earlier thread so if any of you know her, she and I share the same family tree at some point)
(My McCanns were from TN and then moved to AR)
My Grandfather was Daphne Sherwood McCann(better known as Daffy" or "D.S."), b 1926 in AR; his father was Bartholomew James McCann, b.1898 in AR. His parents were James Nathan McCann and Hattie Lee KNOWLES- EUBANKS, His father was Bartholomew James born 1818 in Calhoun, AR and one of his wives was Millie Manerva Phillips who was born TN in 1830. Barthlomew's Father was Joseph R. McCann born abt.1793 but do not know where, and died in TN around 1834 & he was married to an Unknown Elizabeth that might have been born in AL. That's as far as I've gotten and most of that I got from Janell.
If anyone is apart of these McCanns please let me know.

Descendents of John McCann and Bridget McCormick

John McCann, one of eight children of Terence McCann and Jane Kelly of Altamuskin.

John McCann was baptised in around 1 Jun 1873 in Ballygawley, died 27 Aug 1934 Philadelphia, PA. John married Bridget McCormick and had three children:

1. Mary McCann b. 15 Aug. 1903 d. 4 Mar. 1992, Wilmington, Delaware

2. Susan McCann, m. Claude J. Snyder

3 Catherine McCann, m. Timothy J. Quill, 2 children: Leonard & Catherine

The three children of John and Bridget McCann are first cousins of my great-grandmother Ellen Devine (nee Devlin, daughter of the above mentioned Simon Devlin and Mary McCann).

I have dates of birth and death for Susan and Catherine McCann but aren't sure if they're the right ones or not. I would also like to know of there are people with the surnames Snyder and Quill living in the Delaware area who maybe related the the above mentioned Susan McCann Snyder and Catherine McCann Quill; the children of those two would most definately be aged somewhere from late 50s to early 80s.

I have found a bewildering number of Snyders and Quills living in the Delaware area by looking up names on Intelius but not sure who maybe descended from John McCann and Bridget McCormick.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Joseph Mullin

Several of us on the McCain Forum would like to determine if Dr. James McCann (b. Abt. 1744, Northern Ireland) is related to our James McCain of Clay/Talladega Co. Alabama.

We need a male descendant of either this James McCann or his son, Michael McCann (b. 30 Aug 1788, Mecklenburg, VA), for a DNA test which we hope will settle the idea once and for all.

Do any of you know of a person from this line who has tested or will test? If so, we'd sure appreciate your help in contacting him for the DNA test. Please help.
Elinore
Need help on Quaker David M'Cann

Hi all...

I recently ran across something that I hadn't expect to find... So now, I would like to find some more... So I need your help.

New garden monthly meeting Ireland

Jacob Hinshaw of Grange wed Rebecca Mackie
9 month Nov 6, 1735 in the friends
meeting house Ballyhagen, county Armagh, Ireland.

quite a few signers.. Including a David M'cann and a Rebecca Smith

Jacob removes to america and brings his cert to New Garden Monthly meeting in Chester County PA 1741... He and his wife die in 1796 in NC... in New Cane Meeting.

Now I have smiths and McAnns from Ireland that marry over here and they begat my pesky Webb line...
I also have an actual David McAnn. Now the dates are off for him to be this particular david mcann, but it could be his father's father... Our David McAnn was born in Ireland abt 1770-1785; We believe that he came to America in 1798. What is interesting to me is that he and a William Smith from Ballymony, Antrim, Ireland were naturalized on the same day--April 7, 1814--in Chester County, South Carolina. David's wife is unknown to us, but we know the kids... Son Robert Gleghorn McAnn is a documented reformed presbyterian and marries a Sarah Elizabeth Smith between 1824-1831 probably TN ... Prosperity New Reformed Presby Church, TN wasnt started until 1826 and then a town came to be around it.. Just because they were presby in the 1800's doesnt mean that their families didnt start out quaker. We are wondering if Sarah is the daughter of William... Haven't sorted that one out either.

Has anyone researched this particular M'Cann line?
Can you all help me track this david m'cann family from ireland over to here as well as the smiths?... I would very much appreciate your help.
Choctaw McCann's

It's wonderful to get a response from one of the Choctaw McCann direct lines. This is the first confirmation I have had. At one time I had a list of the McCanns on the Choctaw rolls but darn if I can find it. I remember the name Austin and also Lucy. Interestingly enough I had also just found another verification of NA lineage. I found this in the Randolph County MO Death Index. "McCanne, Hugh E. Heirs: William & J.W. & Polly Ann & Sally & Maria McCann, Betsy J. Tuggle full breed; Thomas P. & George W. & Andrew J. & Martha Angelina & James R.P. McCanne, half breed; signed: William Mccanne; p. 26 Sep 1853". If I read this correctly only Betsy and James RP are actually Native American. It doesn't tell me; however, what tribe and it doesn't confirm that they are actually children of Hugh. They could have been adopted, wife and child of some other family member that had deceased.

I have not had time to track down these folks yet but I believe them to be descended from the Ulster Scots who came to NC with McCullough, then migrated to KY, MO, AR and TX in conjunction with another branch from the same tree that went to GA, MS, AL and LA. I probably don't have that exactly right yet .. but I think it's a general thread that crosses many times.

I would be absolutely thrilled with any information at all that you could provide. We have relatively good records coming forward from the 1830's era ... but it's going back that has proven a nightmare. Anything you have on their dates and places of birth, migration locations, parents, grandparents, etc. would be wonderful; especially if you can tell me which McCann and where they married, etc.

I have found a ton of info in the last few days and it's going to take me a quite a bit to put it all together. The problem is that they are all named Hugh, William, James, Thomas, John.

McCann and O'Neill family in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I'm looking for Cornelius (Neal) McCann born in December 1862 in Tyrone who immigrated to the Philadelphia in 1878 married Mary Ann O'Neill born in Lisnastraine, Tyrone in 1862, She and her entire family immigrated to the US in 1875, but it is not clear that her entire family immigrated that year - just that she did. They married in Philadelphia in 1880. In the 1900 census they were living in New York and had Annie born in 1882, Mary born in 1885, Agnes born in 1888, Francis born in 1892 and Regina born in 1895. His occupation was listed as a coffee roaster and his oldest daughter Annie was listed as a milliner. I could find them in the 1900 census but not in the 1910, 1920 or 1930 though it is said that they lived in the Philadelphia area for a long time.
