I'm trying to track down relatives of Joseph McCarthy, who was born around the Pittsburgh PA area in about 1897. I have conflicting info on him, but his mother was named Sadie Welch McCarthy and his father went by J J McCarthy. Joseph's parents (Sadie and JJ) were from Ireland, but that's all the info I have. I believe Joseph also had a brother named Jim. Joseph died in Amarillo, TX in 1954. Any info from anyone would be appreciated.

They married in 1849 and had four children: John, William Henry, Thomas Dingle and Eliza Clara (married GORST). Michael's father was also named John and was a bootcloser. I think Michael had a brother named William who was a grocer on 17 Sawney Pope St. in the late 1840's. Eliza Salmon's father was named WIlliam and was a postillian-originally from Bath Somerset. Have lots of details already,am searching for them from the 1850's and earlier.

McCarthy of County Cork

I am actually tracing two McCarthy lines.
* Charles McCarthy was born @ 1800/1805 - a really rough guess - at Coolboy, Caheragh, Cork. He married before 1821 * Mary O’Sullivan. Their children are:

1)Female McCarthy
2)* Timothy Dennis McCarthy was born 31 July 1821 at Coolboy, Caheragh, Cork, Ireland and died after 1901 in Co.Cork. He married Ainne’( Anne ) Leonard who was born @ 1824 at Barnagowlane, Skibbereen, Co.Cork. ( Barnagowlane is not the village of same name but their homeplace which they inherited from Ainne’s family who had lived there for several generations. It is located in Caheragh near Abbeystrowery and Skibbereen. Timothy was the first of his McCarthy line at Barnagowlane even though there are other McCarthy’s there.) Their children are:

1)Female McCarthy
2)* Florence McCarthy , born March 12, 1850 at Barnagowlane, Skibbereen, Cork. He married February 12, 1881 at Killeenbagh, Skibbereen, Cork to * Ellen McCarthy. He died June 23, 1935 at Barnagowlane and Ellen died there June 24, 1940. ( One of their sons, my grandfather, Daniel Joseph McCarthy, born October 3, 1883 at Barnagowlane, emigrated to US in 1905 and settled in Newton center/Brighton, Mass.)

*Ellen was born 1854 and christened December 27, 1854 at Lissane, Drimoleague, Cork,Ireland .
MCCARTHY, John and Mary

Looking for information on my GGrandfather John McCarthy b. 11/27/1864 England. Married Mary Crowley b. 9/21/1864 England. Mary's parents were Charles Crowley and Rachel Connor. John immigrated to USA in 1884. According to the Fed. Census, both of his parents were born in Ireland. John and Mary lived in the Bronx NY with children, John b. 1891 NY (my Grandfather), Michael, James, Margaret & Mary. There were two other children born before my Grandfather John but I don't know their names. I suspect one to be a David but I need to do further research to verify that. GGF John and GF John were both Pavers and worked for the city of NY. GGF John died in Chicago in 1958 at the age of 93. Mary died in 1924 in NY. Both are buried in St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx, NY. I'm hoping to find descendents/family members from this union. I would appreciate any and all help and/or suggestions. Is any of this familar to anyone?
Thanks. Irene

McCarthys in Maine

I'm trying to find out info on my ggrandfather. He was James McCarthy born in Maine around 1858. He was married to Mary A (don't know maiden name). His children were Dennis Henry b. 1884, James Justin b. 1886, Joseph (my gfather) b. 1981, and Helen b. 1893 all in Bangor. Trying to find out James' parents. They came from Ireland. I'm thinking if I know who they are then I can find out what township in Ireland they are from. From there, I'm hoping to be able to go back to the Kings of Munster.

All the McCarthy information I obtained pertains only to this southwest area of Ireland.
If you are interested in reviewing this information, please contact me at barbwalsh49@gmail.com

He married Eliza Johnson maiden name Caudle in 1876. They also had a daughter Ann or Annie. I dont have any birth or death info on James or Jane.
Eugene McCarthy Married to Annie Hester McKenzie

Born in Cork, Ireland. Had 9 Children which I have the info for.

Eugene was born in 1847 or 1848 I think. He Moved to Oamaru, New Zealand with Annie Hester McKenzie and they were married in 1874.

I'm trying to trace his father (OWEN or Eugene)who was born in 1820 - 1830 in Ireland. I can't find his wife but I've been tipped a few times with the name Margaret. Again this was a very common name so it doesn't really mean anything.

It seems as though there was a huge amount of Owen and Eugene McCarthy's in Cork around that time.

If anyone has any kind of Information that might lead me to the answer can they please please please please tell me.

Alot of people in my family have been looking for a very long time and we are only 1 or 2 links away from linking our family tree to the main McCarthy one.

Daniel McCarthy

Charles J. McCarthy (1857) in Brooklyn, poss Newfoundland

I have hit a wall in my search for McCarthys. The last couple I can find are Charles J (1857-?) and Tillie V (nee?, 1870-?), both born in New York. Census records from 1900 and 1920 place them in Brooklyn, where the rest of my family lived.

A 1920 census record states Charles's parents' birthplace as "New Famdland OC." I'm assuming that's supposed to be "Newfoundland," but I can't find any info to bridge that gap. According to my dad our McCarthy's came from England, but I can't find any evidence of that either.

Interestingly, I was able to find a Charles McCarthy and a Matilda McCarthy in New York prison records, with roughly the same birth years, but like everything else I'm unable to confirm that these are my people.

It's maddening! Any information anyone may have would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for any information or living relatives if anyone could assist. My Grandfather was James McCarthy, son of Thomas McCarthy (1890-19664) and Mary Kane (1894- 1948, car accident). James had a brother and a sister named Audrey. Audreys last name is now Cipa but very difficult to get a hold of her. I know she has children and many neices/nephews still in the ares. My GGrandfather, Thomas, had many brothers and sisters, names that I know for sure are Frank (IN), Margaret, Mary, and William. I believe there was also a Daniel and Raymond (Rumor is there was 14 of them). My GGrandmother, Margaret Kane was the child of James and Mary I Kane (Both were born in Scotland). Siblings of her were John, Edward, Marie (killed in car accident w/her),theresa,nellie,james and catherine.

From what I understand, majority of these relatives remained in the Pittburgh area (turtle creek, monroeville, duquesne). If any of these names ring a bell, please let me know as I would love to get more information and/or meet more relatives. Thanks.

McCarthy/Lyle family of Kansas/Missouri/Oklahoma

I am researching the Lyle family and I am looking for the descendants of John H. Lyle and Mary McCarthy. John was born December 14, 1860 in Roane County, TN to Ezra and Clementine Lyle. He married Mary McCarthy around 1886. She was born to Callahan and Josephine (Gaither) McCarthy on October 16, 1865 in Neosho County, Kansas. John Lyle lived in Cedar County, Missouri before his marriage to Mary, and for a short time they lived in Missouri before moving to Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. John and Mary had at least six children together: Elmer (moved to Oregon), Josephine "Josie" Lyle, William, Florence, T. Perry (Thomas?), and a child who died before 1900. John died in 1943 in Shawnee, Pottawatomie County, OK and his wife Mary died after 1930. Any information on Mary's parents, or the descendants of John and Mary McCarthy Lyle is appreciated.

Corrie Keenen

I know this is a long shot but we are searching for a Joseph McCarthy born in Kinsale about the 1880's. His brothers were Michael, Jim and Daniel. The only thing we were told was that he apparently emigrated to America. Daniel, we know died in New York in 1950 and the informant on his death certificate was his neice Margaret McCarthy. Was this Joe's daughter?
Having read about the ubiquity of McCarthys in the area of Dunmanway, I am taking a long shot here.

I am trying to find living relatives in Ireland, descended from the following people, all of whom appear to have come from Dunmanway:

WILLIAM and JULIA (COLLINS) DONOVAN. Children included:

HANNAH (B. 1867)
MARY ELLEN (B. 1878)
ELIZA (B. 1864)
JOHN (B. ???)

When she got to Boston, Hannah married a man named Cornelius J. O'Sullivan, also born in Dunmanway: Cornelius's parents were CORNELIUS and JANE (GORMAN) O'SULLIVAN/SULLIVAN, married on Feb. 2, 1861 in Dunmanway, Cork, Ireland.

Among their children were:

ANNE (9/16/1865 - )
MICHAEL (8/12/1867 - )
CORNELIOUS J. (11/5/1869 - )
JANE (12/3/1871 - )

I cannot seem to trace any farther back from these names, and as I said, I am trying, too, to trace to the present time, to get in touch with at least one of their descendents.

Any help, any leads, any connections would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

TSL
