John McKinley/Martha(Mattie) Wiles m. 1829 Brown County Ohio

John McKinley was born in 1810 -in Ohio - according to the census of 1830 and 1850 of Union Twp>Brown County> Ohio.He died 27 Sept 1866, according to his tombstone in Old Red Oak Cemetery, Union Twp., Brown Co., Ohio, and was 56Y 3M 11D old then, so his birth was abt 16 Jun 1810.On 3 Nov 1829 in Brown County, he married Mattie(Martha) Wiles - parents present but not named. She was born abt 1811 according to the census of 1830 and 1850. She was still in Union>Brown>Ohio in the 1880 census as a widow, said then her parents were born Wales and she was born Ohio. I found no obituary for John in the Ripley Bee of 1866, but notices of the disposal of his estate were there - he died insolvent - but his children were named and his land sold. I can find no sign of Martha's death and place so far.He appeared to be a farmer.

His children were: Elizabeth,b. abt 1832,married John C White, b. Ohio and had Peter W, Martha J, Mary Elizabeth and Elmer Ellsworth White. she died before 1867. In 1860 census lived in Lewis Township, Brown, P O Higginsport; William Nelson,b.25 Dec 1836,d.20 May 1918,m. Albertine Isabella Day, 17 Dec 1861 Brown County Ohio; Mary Jane, b.abt 1837,d. 1867 Eden, Iowa, married John C White by 1867 husband of her dead sister; Martha Ann, b.5 Nov 1840, d.18 Jul 1918, m. John H(arry?) Mann bef 1867;Thomas M or H, b.1 Sep 1842,d.14 May 1847; Peter W, b.5 Oct 1845,d. 5 Feb 1913, m. Annie R ( ) abt 1871; Joseph M, b. 24 Aug 1848, d. 29 Apr 1911,m. Emma Wilks aft 1860;and Asa, b. abt 1850, d.bef 1867.

I am trying to prove:
1 - that this is the same Martha Wiles everyone claims to be the daughter of Christian Wiles of PA and Ripley, Brown, Ohio. She said her parents were born in Wales, but many things point to her being Christian's daughter - is there proof, such as a Bible entry of her marriage or?
2 - I am looking for proof of John's parents - it has been suggested he could be Hugh McKinley's son, and he was the right age and place for that, but is there proof? Also a Joseph McKinley was in the area in Huntington in 1820 with sons the right age - any leads would be appreciated. Lyn

They had two children, James Buren (1877-1922) and Dellie Arminta Head (1882-1958). Dellie was born in Hickory, North Carolina. Rosa died when Dellie was a very young girl. George later remarried and had another son, Roy Van Ness White.

According to family legend, there were two McKinley brothers who quarrled. One stayed in Ohio, one moved on to Iowa. Thomas McKinley (1817-1888) was the one to move to Iowa. His parents were John McKinley and Catherine Edmond. Does anyone know of any of Thomas' siblings or their family history? Maybe this will get me to Hugh McKInley who married Anna Rita Finnell in 1796. Thanks. Marcia

I am searching for any relatives related to my 5xgreat grandfather Michael Green McKinley m. Sarah Fouts from York County PA. He was listed on the tax records of Washington County, PA in 1790, then moved to KY. He was listed on the first census of KY in 1790 in Nelson County 10-25-1792 and then Green County, KY Nov 11, 1799. He also served in the War of 1812. I have a copy of both the "The Clan MacKinlay" minutes from the gathering of McKinley's at the World's Fair, Chicago, IL, Sep 13, 1893 and also The Second Gathering of the Clan MacKinley at Detroit, Michigan, USA, Sep 10, 1894. Michael's line is mentioned in these documents. Any help is appreciated. I can also help if anyone wants me to check these documents for their information.

McKinleys of Adams Co., Ohio and Scioto Co. Ohio maybe Venango Co PA
Can anyone give me the placement of the following McKinleys?

Sarah "Sally" Mitchell married 1st, James Hiner who died in 1826 eight months after they were married in Adams Co. Ohio on June 16, 1825. Had son James Hiner Jr. who married (1) Lettie McKinley (b. unknown) and (2) Elizabeth McKinley b. 1836-1839 in Ohio. The Hiners were from Venango Co. Pennsylvania.

Then, after the death of James Hiner Sr., Sarah Sally Mitchell married Zenas Hayward, widower of Rebecca Ewing. Zenas and Sally had several children. One was Salome Hayward, b. abt. 1840 in Adams Co., Ohio, married James McKinley, b. 1837-1838 in Adams Co., Ohio.

I have my suspicions that James was a brother to Lettie and Elizabeth, who were both daughters of a John McKinley. Who was this John McKinley, and who was his wife? What were the names of the other McKinley siblings and who did they marry? Are these McKinleys any relation to the Venango Co. Pennsylvania McKinleys?

While I know my great grandmother Augusta McKinley m. mygreat grandfather James Andrew Everman on 5/9/1867 in Fulton county Illinois, I have copy of marriage certificate and it doesnt give any info at all as to Augusta's parents names. I know thru 1880 census for Clark co. Mo. that they lived there at that time and had four Children including my own grandmother Edith Edie Everman who m. my dear grandpa Frank C Richy in 1894, Edith died in 1911 so never even got to meet her. Hence would love to find her mothers parents and or siblings. This has been my stone wall. I tried to find her thru the 1850 census for In, but tho there was a ton of McKinleys on it, no one named Augusta. So am asking for help, hoping some one might recognize these names. Her sibllings were Jacob Lee Everman, Mary Everman, and I dont remember the name of the third child. Any help much appreciated.

Northern Ireland/President McKinley

After lots of research, I discovered a book written by Edward Claypool in 1897, called "The Scotch Ancestors of William McKinley." There was a "James the Trooper" McKinley who left Scotland and went to Ireland to as a guide for the army of William III at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690. This book claims that he was an ancestor of a large portion of the Irish McKinleys. So there is a possiblity that most Northern Ireland McKinleys are realted to the former president. The next generation there is listed a "David the Weaver" (a 27th generation McKinley)who immigrated to America (date unknown) and settled in York County, PA possibly before 1745. President McKinley was generation 32 according to Claypool.

Joseph McKinley, born 1750

I found this Joseph McKinley listed in AGBI on Ancestry.Com. He was born in 1750 in Pennsylvania. Does anyone have more information about him - who his parents were and who his children were. We have traced our family line back to Joseph McKinley, born March 23, 1780, married to Elizabeth Drake. However, we haven't been able to find any record further back so we're trying to find who his parents were.
McKinley from Cushendun, Antrim, Ireland records

I'm very confused! I was given info regarding a Sara and Hugh McKinley b abt 1830's who had Mary b 1857, Kate b 1858, Hugh b 1859, John 1863, Maggie 1864 and Elizabeth 1871. Elizabeth is my gr grandmother. I was told John, Kate and Elizabeth came to Chicago in 1880's. So far I can't find the right info from Antrim. and what I found in a Chicago 1900 census really has me confused. I'm not sure if it is them as the birth years are off 4-10 years.
Where can I find Antrim data? Or does it not exist? PLEASE any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Marriage of Louis Leverett to MIss Lizzie McKinley

Appears in "The Landmark" 23 May 1914 Rush Springs, Grady County, Oklahoma

LEVERETT – McKINLEY

On April 8, 1914, as the evening shadows were falling a rap was heard at our front door and opon opening it there stood a young gentleman and a young lady. The young man handed the preacher a long envelope and requested that the papers be executed, and there, in the presence of three witnesses, Mr. Louis Leverett and Miss Lizzie McKinley were united in holy wedlock. These young people are to well known in Rush Springs to need any words of introduction from me but here’s wishing that their life may be useful and that happiness may be their daily portion thorough life. It was no doubt quite a surprise when these young folks let it be known on Thursday that they had been married about six weeks. All joy be theirs. Their friend, M. T. Allen
Does anyone know who the father of William M. McKinley is?

He was born 1740 (or 1734?) He is listed as the son of John

McKinley (1728-1779)but that would make the father either

12 or 6 years old when he was born. Would William M. then

be the son of an older brother of John? Does anyone know

the names of John's siblings? John was a son of David(1755-

1840) who was married to Esther and came from Ireland in the

middle 1700's to York, Pa.

Here is what I have (I need help with anything and everything).

Milton McKinley and Carrie Ellis had a son named Hugh Francis McKinley born October 2, 1913 in Dawn Township, Lambton County, Canada. Hugh's mother, Carrie, died during childbirth October 2, 1913. Hugh lived in Dresden, Ontario, Canada and then later emmigrated to the USA. Hugh died January 17, 1982 in Wayne County, Michigan. He became a naturalized US citizen in 1941. Hugh was married to Ruth C. Bradnor and they had 3 sons.

Milton McKinley second married Evelyne and they had a son named John and a daughter named Jannette.

So... there it is. Not much to go on. Does anyone have anything for me? I'd really like to track down the details on Milton McKinley. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Daniel Paxton

McKinley family in Juniata County, PA

Have researched the McKinley family in Juniata County, PA. Began with two brothers, James[1766-1840/50] and John[1765-1811]. James had three known sons: John, James and Alexander. John [1765-1811] was married to Mary ? but children's names are not known. A Samuel McKinley 1795-1800 leaves Juniata County with family after the 1830 census for parts unknown. He is a son of either John or James. Information on descendants is more plentiful. Contact me at the Juniata County Historical Society, Mifflintown, PA: jchs1931@pa.net

My great grandma was Martha Jane McKinley Fenton. She was supposedly a cousin of the president. Her family had come from Ohio and settled in Lucas Co Iowa. Her mother was Sophrona Grimes. I would love to make the connection and trace the McKinley lineage. I know it is Irish as I once saw a program featuring the McKinley ancestral home. If anyone has any information on the McKinleys, I may be able to trace my line. Thanks!

William was also born circa 1760's in County Down, and their daughter Elizabeth McKinley married John Forsyth, Sr. 9 May 1813 in County Down, Ireland. He was born 1788 in County Down. Elizabeth & John immigrated to the USA with their 9 children in 1843 (their eldest who was named after his grandfather, William, had died at the age of 2 in Ireland from smallpox). They lived in Allegheny County, PA for a time, before finally settling permanently in Iowa. Does anyone have a family connection?

Hi,

I'm looking for more information on Hugh McKinly of Union County, PA. My connection is through his daughter Mary Ann McKinley, born in either 1796 or 1797 in East Buffalo Township, Union County, PA. I don't know of any other siblings or who Hugh's wife was. Don't know whether he stayed in the county or went somewhere else.

Mary Ann McKinley married James Barclay (born Mar 1797 Chillisquaque, Northumberland Co., PA; died 2 Feb 1871 Mt. Vernon Twp., Black Hawk County, IA, age 73y 10m 21d [per grave stone]). Mary Ann died before 19 Sept 1872 at home of her daughter Catherine M. Barclay Fountain across the county line in Jefferson Twp., Bremer Co., IA, age 75.

In about 1846 James Barclay inherited from his father a sawmill and plantation in Moreland Twp., Lycoming, PA. Moved to Mt. Vernon Twp., Black Hawk Co., IA, by 1854.

While having success with the Barclay line in this era I've had no success with Hugh McKinly's family.

Anyone know anything about this Hugh?

Many thanks,
Gary Lee
gary@ allinderlee.com or gary@ cellolee.com

They lived in Canada until 1859 when
they moved to the US.

They had children Peter, Margaret Jane, Lewis, Sarah E,
John, Celia Ellen, James, and George.

They are listed in the 1860 census in Red River, TX, and
then in Cooke Co, TX in 1880. However, they had
children in Missouri and Arkansas in-between those dates.

Family oral history says they were involved in logging along
the Missisippi during that time.

Searching for Northern Ireland connection to the McKinley family. My great grandfather, William Samuel Morrison Mckinley, born in Tandragee, Northern Ireland (1855), as well as his brothers, David Harbison Mckinley (1860), Robert (1859), and Alexander (1862). In 1871 their father and mother, William Samuel (1820?) and Sarrah left Ireland on the ship "Europa" & arrived in N.Y. & settled in Phila. Would like to find any relatives still in Ireland. According to a family tree made by my Grand Uncle, there was a common ancestor in Ireland (gggggreat grandfather) rel.to the President William Mckinley line, but unable to find a link.

I suspect he was a son or sibling of one of those three or possibly a cousin but have not been able to find that information.

Recently I found a short newspaper article, dated February 1906, which stated that a John D. McKinley moved to California, studied law and became a congressman. At the time the article was written, it said that Mr. McKinley had stopped to visit old friends in Essex County, Ontario, Canada, on his way to Washington. I've searched the web but have been unable to locate this person. Can someone point me in the right direction to find a biography on John D. McKinley?
Thanks,
Linda.

Jonas McKinley & Jane McMillan Pendleton Co. KY

I am looking for information on Jonas McKinley and Jane McMillan. Jonas in 1798 in Ohio and Jane was born in 1800. They were married August 8, 1817 in Adams Co. Ohio. They probably moved to Pendleton Co. Kentucky before 1820. I have much information on Jane’s ancestors, here parents were James McMillan and Martha Cooper. I have several generations back on the McMillan line but I do not have any information on Jonas’ parents.

They had six children: Jesse Lee, b. 1817; Margaret Anne, b. September 24, 1826; Robert, b. 1832; Hester Anne, b. 1829; Jackson & Josiah, b. January 8, 1820.

I am interested in connection between Jonas and Jesse Lee (I am descended from his line) who married Elizabeth Ann Yager. I am also interested in finding the parents of Jonas.

Thanks for any information you might have.

Shawn Conlon
SConlon662@aol.com
