Wilhelmina Meyers

There is a Wilhelmina Meyers somewhere in the Lewis (Louis) Meyers (Meyer) family. The legend is she carried her son (s) over ice and snow to get them away from consription (Franco Prussian War). Lewis died in the early part of the 20th century in his forties. The line stops there. Anyone else have such a legend? Do not know if she was in Germany, France or Prussia. I suppose she ended her days in Kentucky or Ohio, where Lewis was. Ironton?

Thanks.

I'm trying to trace back some of my ancestors, but know very little information. My great-grandmother's name was Esther Meyer, and she was born April 3, 1918 in Newark, NJ. She told my grandfather very little information about her family. She married a Henry Schnabel (my great-grandfather). He died in the mid 1960's. The only information my grandfather had was that he had a cousin or some sort of relative named Daniel Solomon and that Schwartz may have been the name of someone in his family.
I'm fairly certain his grandfather's name was Irving Meyer and was also born in Newark.
We also have reason to believe they may have been Jewish, even though my grandfather was raised Lutheran.
I found an "Ervin Meyer" in the 1910 Census which lists his mother as Alvine/Alwine (also in Newark, NJ) and a brother named Henry which sounds like it could be the right match based on years. I cannot find anything beyond this...there's nothing in the 1900 census, and I don't know Alvine/Alwine's maiden name nor her husband's first name.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Wilhelmina Myer married Herman Dohrendorf, immigrants from Germany

I am looking for information on Wilhelmina Myer who married Derman Dohrendorf in Germany. Both were born in Germany. The couple immigrated to the US between 1872-1890. Wilhelmina is found in the 1890 Minnesota directory as "widowed", so Herman Dohrendorf died prior to that.
Wilhelmina died August 3, 1917 in Washington County, Minnesota.
Herman & Wilhelmina (Meyer) Dohrendorf had a daughter named Mary Johanna Dohrendorf, born June 16 1872 in Germany. Mary married Charles A. Tripp, possibly in South Dakota (where their daughter was born in 1900) or in Minnesota. Mary Johanna Dohrendorf Tripp died November 23, 1943 in Minneapolis, Hennepin Co., Minnesota.
Any information is sincerely appreciated

A Meyer Mystery in New York, Wisconsin, and Minnesota

What happened to Jacob P. Meyer’s first wife, three daughters, and mother-in-law? What was Mary H. Meyer--his second wife’s--maiden name?

1.	Jacob P. Meyer was born in New York State in Sept 1831. Spellings from the records which I know to be attached to him include: Myer, Myers, Meyer, Meyers.
2.	In 1850 he was living with his birth family in Eden, Erie Co. New York. Jacob J Myer and Roseanna M Myer were his parents--both were born in France; he had several brothers and sisters: Magdalena (1834), Frederik (1838), John (1840), Louisa (1845), August G (1847).
3.	The US Census for 1860 lists Jacob Meyer (born 1832 in NY) as living in Waukesha Wisconsin with wife Mary Meyer (born 1836 in New York), their daughters Mary (born about 1856 in New York), Louisa (born about 1858 in New York), and Margaret (born in WI in 1859). Also living with them was a Mary H. Streeter (or Strater), born in 1804 in Prussia (I assume this was Jacob's mother-in-law).
4.	Jacob had a son, John, in July of 1861 Wisconsin. After this point the five women mentioned in item #4 disappear.
5.	Jacob P. Meyer was married to Mary H. [unknown maiden name] Meyer in 1874. She had been born in Vermont in January of 1848, so she was too young to be John’s mother.
6.	Jacob P. and Mary H. Meyer lived together in Wisconsin at least in 1875-76, when their sons William and Edmund were born
7.	They had moved their family to Butternut Valley, Blue Earth Co, MN by 1880, when Mary E. B. Meyer Kahlstorf (or Eva Mary) was born. Several other children followed: Ida L.H. Meyer [married name: Reakes] in 1886, Roy Daniel Meyer in 1888, and Frederick J. Meyer in 1891. John appears with them on the 1880 federal census, but he doesn't appear on the 1885 Minnesota Census. [After this point John and his wife Dena and their children are consistently listed together in the censuses as living on their farm in Butternut Valley.]
8.	Jacob P. and Mary H. Meyer were both still alive in 1895, and still lived in Butternut Valley, Blue Earth Co, MN .
9.	In 1900 Jacob P. and Mary H. Meyer were living in Hancock Village (Swan Lake Twp), Stevens Co., MN with their four youngest children.
10.	The 1910 census has Mary H. Meyer and her son Fred Meyer living in Lake George, Hubbard County, MN. Jacob P. Meyer is not with them at this point.
Meyer-Wisconsin

My name is Larry Meyers and I am the son to Kenneth Meyers (from Coleman, Wisconsin). His dad was William Meyers, also of Coleman, was the son of Edward A Meyers (b1868 d1947). Edward was the son of Adam Meyers (a.k.a John Anton) who emigrated from the Eifel Province of Germany as a young boy (around 1840's). Micheal was married to a Maria Hoffman and had at least one other son (Louis) who was older than Adam. I have Pa. Naturalization papers dated 1844 on Micheal. Adam was married to a Catharina Schaden and died on November 7th, 1887 in New Denmark, Wisconsin. They had total of eleven childern.

If anyone has a tie in I would be very interested. Thanks

I

Mary, Minnie, Katie Meyer of St. Jacob, IL ~ 1890s

Mary Meyer (married name Mary Robinson) was my paternal grandmother. I have no information on her parents, just that she was born 1 June 1880 in St. Jacob, Ill. and that her parents spoke what my father called "Low German" at home. She had two sisters, Minnie and Katie (sp?). Minnie's married name was Ferguson. Katie's married name was Brandly; her husband died by falling down a well and she died in childbirth shortly after, leaving two children. My grandmother took the girl, Lorine, b. 1914, and Aunt Minnie took the boy, Roland, b. 1916, and adopted them. Roland is still listed as a nephew on the 1920 census, but in Minnie's household, so I assume his parents died a year or less before. I can't find my grandparents on the 1920 census, although they married in 1915.

I would appreciate any information on Katie Meyer Brandly and her husband, and on Mary, Minnie, and Katie's parents, if anyone knows anything.

I do have an "autograph" book from the 1890s that belonged to my grandmother - the use was the same as we do with school yearbooks today - her family and friends have all written little paragraphs to her in it; they date from ~ 1892 to 1899. I can scan this if anyone is interested; it is from Madison County in what is called the Triad school district today. Let me know if there is a way to upload this to a public file and I will, if there is any value to having it made public.

Herman William Meyer, my husband's father, married Lola Lovicia Obenchain on 11/4/1927 at Christ Church, Philadelphia, PA. They had 2 sons: Russell Obenchain Meyer born 10/16/1928 and Louis Converse Meyer born/died in 1931. They lived in Vineland, NJ, a few miles out of Philadelphia starting in 1928. We believe Herman died around 1952 at the hospital in Vineland, NJ. Herman & Louis are buried in the Meyer family plot in Chelten Hills Cemetery, Philadelphia. Herman and Lola separated in 1930s and she eventually relocated to Fort Worth, Texas. Russell lost all contact with his father and father's family & would like to know his family history. Herman's parents were in Philadelphia area.

August Meyer son of Henry Meyer

I recently found the death certificate for my great grandfather August Meyer b. 1855 d. July 25, 1935. He lived in St. Louis, MO and married a Louise Bacher/Backer. They had possibly 4 children: Bertha, William, August, George. George is my grandfather. On the death certificate for August Meyer it lists his father as being Henry Meyer and his mother as being Minnie Meyer. Both of them listed as being from Germany. According to the 1920 MO census August emigrated in 1871 and was naturalized in 1876. Searching for August Meyers ancestors has been a life long pursuit for me and this is the first break I've had in over 10 years. So if anyone has any information on Henry Meyer, I'd truly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any help given.
I have an original 5”x7” original photograph of a string band, with all members identified, taken in about 1924, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members of someone in the photo. A group of four names are surname Meyer, father Alfred, mother Mabel, and sons LeRoy and Armin.

I found the family of Alfred Meyer in the 1930 census for Oak Creek, WI, showing father Alfred, age 42, Mabel, 38; Armin, 14; and Leroy, 12. In the 1900 census, I found Alfred as son of Fred and Selma Franke Meyer (see other message posted on them), showing Alfred’s birthdate as Dec. 1887.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Alfred Meyer or family.

Friederich/Fred Meyer, b.1849, wife Selma, b.1860, son Alfred, lived Oak Creek, WI

I have two photographs of this family, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. One photo is an original studio picture of “Friederich and Selma Meyer”, taken in about 1910. Photo was taken in Milwaukee, WI and he looks about 60 and she about 50. The second is a copy of a group photo taken about 1900, of Alfred Meyer, Carl Franke “gr. grandfather”, Irma Meyer Mahr, Frederika Koehler Franke “great grandmother”, and Selma Franke Meyer “grandmother”.

I found Friedrich and Selma Meyer in the 1900 federal census and 1905 WI state census, living in Oak Creek (Milwaukee Co.) WI, as Fred and Selma. 1900 census shows Fred was born Oct 1849, and Selma in 1860. In 1905, however, in same location, he was listed as 52, and she as 45. In 1900, their children were Ella, born Sep 1884, Dornetta/Arnetta, born Sep 1886, and Alfred, born Sep 1887.

Carl and Fredrika Franke were parents of Selma Meyer, and I found them in the 1880 census for Oak Creek (Milwaukee Co.) WI, with their children. Charles A. Franke was age 53, Fredrika was age 49, with children Oscar, 25; Ernest, 18; Selma, 20; Herman, 14, and living with them was 80 yr. old John G. Franke.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Fred or Selma or Alfred Meyer

Pfc. Joseph K. Meyer Jr., of Wahpeton, N.D., Korean MIA Identified

IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 0355-08
April 30, 2008
Soldiers Missing from the Korean War are Identified

(see link for complete release)

The Department of Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office announced today that the remains of two U.S. servicemen, missing from the Korean War, have been identified and will be returned to their families for burial with full military honors.

. . .and Pfc. Joseph K. Meyer Jr., of Wahpeton, N.D., both U.S. Army. Both men will be buried Saturday. . . . and Meyer will be buried in Wahpeton.

Representatives from the Army met with the next-of-kin of these men to explain the recovery and identification process, and to coordinate interment with military honors on behalf of the Secretary of the Army.

. . . , and Meyer was assigned to K Company, 31st Infantry Regiment. Both were attached to the 31st Regimental Combat Team (RCT), 7th Infantry Division. The team was engaged against the Chinese People's Volunteer Forces near the Chosin Reservoir, North Korea, from late November to early December, 1950. Both men died as result of intense enemy fire, and their bodies were not recovered at the time.

Between 2001 and 2005, joint U.S. and Democratic People's Republic of Korea teams, led by the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC), conducted excavations of several burial sites near the Chosin Reservoir. The sites correlate closely with defensive positions held by the 31st RCT at the time of the Chinese attacks. The teams recovered remains there believed to be those of U.S. servicemen. Analysis of the remains recovered from the sites led to the identification of several individuals, including Mason and Meyer.

Among other forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence, scientists from the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory and JPAC also used mitochondrial DNA and dental comparisons in both Meyer's and Mason's identification.

For additional information on the Defense Department's mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO Web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo or call (703) 699-1420.

http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=1...

Isaac Meyer (married) of Cleveland, Ohio and his daughter Birdie, age 5 are listed among the dead in a train accident.

The Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway Train No. 5, The Pacific Express left a snowy Erie, Pennsylvania on the afternoon of December 29, 1876. As The Pacific Express plowed through the snow and crossed a bridge over the Ashtabula River, about 100 yards from the railroad station at Ashtabula, Ohio, the passengers heard a terrible cracking sound. In just seconds, the bridge fractured and the train plunged 70 feet into a watery abyss.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "Ashtabula Bridge Disaster."
LaFayette, Alma, Concordia, Missouri Meyers

According to family history, my great-grandfather, Erwin Meyer, was adopted. My father believes that he might have been adopted by an older sister or some other family member. He married Anna (b. Dec. 7 abt 1900) and had three children: Loretta, Melvin, and Eddie. They lived mostly in Concordia, MO.

Erwin was probably born in 1896.

He might have been adopted by Meta Meyer, who had 6 children, according to the 1910 census: Lawrance, Erna, Erwin, Stanley, Farrita, and Edna. Upon seeing the 1910 census papers, you notice that something was written on the "relation to head of house" line before "SON" was put there for both Stanley and Erwin.

My father is convinced that both Anna and Erwin were not more than one generation away from Germany.

If you have any information on Anna, Erwin, Meta or any of them, please contact me! Thanks.

(newspaper clipping)

Hutton – Meyer.

At five o’clock last evening at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. M. Meyer, on east Sherman street occurred the wedding of two of our popular and well known young society people. The contracting parties were Samuel F. Hutton and Miss Lucy M. Meyer and the ceremony was performed in the presence of a few friends, by Rev. D. M. Moore.

At the conclusion of the marriage rite the company enjoyed a wedding supper after which, amid the hearty congratulations of friends, the happy couple boarded the Rock Island train for Kansas City, where they will visit the exposition. They will remain there until after the visit of the president and his wife and will then return here and begin housekeeping.

Mr. Hutton is one of the most popular young men in the city being courteous, obliging and a good business man. His bride is a young lady of great merit and the two have the warm and hearty well wishes of the entire community for their future welfare.

The presents received from their friends were of the usual appropriate kind, some being very costly ad beautiful. There were very many of them, which testifies to the high regard in which they are held by those with whom they are acquainted.

The Daily Herald
Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas
Wednesday, October 12, 1887
page – 2 *** column – 2
I'm looking for information on Henry Meyer who I believe was born Steinfeld, Amt Damme, Oldenburg, Germany in 1821. Additionally, his sister, Maria Catharina Meyer (b. 12/11/1823) is of greater interest to me directly as she is my GGGrandmother and married Johann Berend Haskamp in Holdorf, Amt Damme, Oldenburg, Germany in 1849. They came to the US in 1854 aboard the ship Hermann and were listed as living in the Charette Township in 1860 Census and they were living in Concord Hill, Missouri.
Any information on the Meyers would be greatly appreciated.
Keith Haskamp
