Michells in Cornwall

My great grandmother was Amelia Michell, first headmistress of the Dartmouth Board School for Girls in Devon, UK around 1870 or so.

She was born, I think, in Cornwall around 1838, and was married to Leonard Goodman (LG)Hockin (or Hocking) born in Phillack Cornwall in 1844 and who died in Dorset in 1922. She survived LG. According to family records I have she had relations in Pennsylvania (W.P. Michell of Warren, Warren County,PA) and also I think in California (Tommy or Jimmy of Winthrop Road, San Marino). These locations would have dated from around the 1900s.

Family legend has that she was partially of French origin, although Michell is a common Cornish spelling of Mitchell. Any US descendents out there?

I would love to hear from anyone who might be descendents of Henry and Jane Michell.
I think Henry was born 1868 in Cornwall UK to Henry and Phillipa Michell and Jane (nee Hellyar) was born 1871 in Cornwall UK to Richard and Jane Hellyar.
Henry and Jane immigrated to US (Jane 1909, Henry earlier) and then lived in Canada for a few years before returning to US in 1922. They are listed on 1930 US Federal Census aged 62 and 59 at Clarendon, Orleans, New York.
Possibley their son (or nephew?) John C Michell was living at Rochester, Monroe, New York with wife Mine and son John (born abt 1924) in 1930.
Other children of Henry and Jane are Margaret(or Mary?), Dorothy, Henry, and Clara.
I am a descendent of Jane's brother who immigrated to Australia and we have lost contact with Jane's family.
Truly hoping someone can help.
CB

Michell from Cornwall, England

My g-grandfather was Thomas Dudley Michell, born abt 1898 in Battersea, London, England. He is the son of Thomas Michell (born abt 1860 in Cornwall) and Catherine Isabella, last name unknown (born abt 1862 in Paddington, London, England). I can find Thomas and Catherine and family on the 1901 England census only. I believe Thomas' parents are George Michell (born abt. 1825 in Cornwall) and Sally Veal (born abt. 1825, Father is John Veal).
I can find George and Sally on the 1861 England census, but then I can find no record of any family again until the above mentioned 1901 Census. I know that Thomas and Catherine and family immigrated to Canada in abt. 1909 and resided in British Columbia. Any help or information on this family would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Dawn
Canada

Edward Michell of Plymouth Colony in 1642

In 1642, Edward Michell and Edward Preston were charged and convicted, in the Plymouth Colony, of committing sodomy. However this was not the only sexual exploit that these two men were involved in. During the trial, it came to light that Michell had been fornicating with a woman, while Preston had attempted to coerce another man to sodomy. In a bizarre twist, the woman that Michell was fornicating with, Lydia Hatch, was also having a incestuous affair with her brother, Jonathan. Michell, Preston, and the Hatchs were all publicly whipped. Once again the death penalty was not applied.36
It was in this same year (1642), Governor William Bradford declared that sex crimes were rampant in the colony:

I am not related to these people, just passing on this information, which comes from an essay titled "Wickedness Breaks Forth." The link for the site is listed below.
Joyce
http://www.loyno.edu/~history/journal/1999-2000/Chehardy.htm

Dudley / Marjory / Mabel Michell

I am trying to find some information on my Great Grandfather and having no luck. His name was Dudley Michell. Dudley was born abt. 1891. He married Christina Marjory Little and had two children, Thomas John Meldrum (b. Aug 19, 1915) and Helen Isabel (b. May 26, 1917). I beleive Dudley and Christina resided in Victoria, British Columbia. At some point Dudley left his young family for California, for work, the story goes. Dudley died in California April 26, 1922 at the age of 31. He is buried at Ross Bay Cemetery, Victoria, British Columbia. Dudley had two sisters that I am aware of, Mabel and Marjory. I would be grateful for any information on this family.
Regards,
Dawn Powelson
