Classification: Obituary
Robert Everett Mileham, son of Homer E. and Nellie M. (Brennan) Mileham, was born January 26, 1930 near Cylinder, Iowa. A lifelong resident of Palo Alto County, he received his education at St. Mary’s Academy in Emmetsburg, graduating in 1948. In 1951 Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, making rank of Sergeant and serving until 1953, when he was honorably discharged. Bob returned to Emmetsburg where he was employed at Mileham Produce until it closed in 1968.
On October 10, 1960 Bob was united in marriage to Mary M. Washington at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. To this union three children were born.
Bob spent a majority of his time working in the manufacturing field, working as a purchasing agent (Pamline, Berkley’s, and Skyjack) and as a plant manager for Durnell Engineering. Never one to sit still very long, Bob held various other jobs both before and after retirement, the last being custodial work at the Emmetsburg Post Office.
Bob was a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also active in the church choir. Bob had sung in the Many Voices Choir for several years. He was a very talented roller skater and still enjoyed skating. Bob will be remembered as a man who loved people. He rarely missed meeting his friends for coffee each morning and afternoon. His giving spirit continued even upon his death, as Bob wished to be an organ and tissue donor so that others had the opportunity to enjoy life as he did.
Bob died Sunday, October 19, 2008 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa at the age of 78. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Homer Mileham, Jr. and James Mileham; and an infant son.
He is survived by his children, Patricia Mileham of Valparaiso, Indiana and John Mileham of Kanawha, Iowa; a granddaughter, Kaleigh Lindholm of Hibbing, Minnesota; as well as many other relatives and friends.
