I'm sorry I know nothing about the brothers descendants. I have only information on their ancestors. Back in the 1970s a relative made family charts of two couples. It followed each of the children and their children etc. It only gave names, no dates, places, or information on spouses other than their names. Benedicte Katrine Eilertsen married Martin Monsen, (I have verified that the wife was definately born 1836 and husband may have been also) and had Pete and Martin. The tree just stops there (contact with the branch seems to have been lost). These branches of the family seemed to have immigrated to WI, MI, MN, ND, and IL so I am exploring all these areas as most new family arrivials seemed to have started out staying with other family when first arriving in the US. I saw your post wanted to reply as your two brother names matched mine. Do you know any of the names of the brother's children? (Often in Norse families that could be a clue)

I am looking for info on Catherine Monson (1851-1928). I know she married Johnston Haire (1847-1905) but I don't know what year. I also don't know anything about either of their parents. They had a daughter named Sarah Jane Haire (1881-1973) who story has it moved to Ohio around 1898 when she was 17. I have Sarah being born in Boyle, Co Roscommon, Ireland. After Sarah came to the US she married a man named William Moore (1872-1943).

This is 2008 and I wonder if anyone has found information on William Victor Monson and his family. I have a little but I am trying to get information on his wife. This is what I have.
Wm. V. Monson b. 1830 Nicholas Co, KY.
M. Sarah Owen 8 May 1850 in Coles Co, IL.
he d. March 1865 probably in Hurricane Twp. Carroll Co, MO
Sarah d. after 1880 same location.
Children:
Elizabeth
Sarah Jane
Benjamin Samuel
William Henry
Laura
Alonzo Edgar
I have more details about the family but I do not have the date of Sarah's birth or death. Perhaps she remarried after Mr. Monson's death.

Sarah's father was Lawrence W. Owen.
I believe my Hannah was married to someone named Thollander and they lived in the Chicago area. I don't believe there was a sister named Caroline. Also, there was never any mention by my great-grandmother, who was Hannah's sister, that any of her family had settled in Iowa. Most of the family in this generation lived either in the Chicago area or northern PA. However, my research is far from complete so anything is possible. If I come across any pertinent info, I'll be sure to pass it on.

Monson, Elling and Christine - S.Dakota to Oregon

Looking for any info on Elling Monson, who was living in Silverton, OR in 1930. He was born 5/26/1861 in Norway, lived in SD where he and 1st wife, Christine (1860-1899, buried in Egeland Cemetery, Waubay, SD) had William, Clara, Elmer, Frank, John, Fred, and Andy (?). He then married Gertrud Rislov and moved to Oregon. Sons William and John also went to OR. It looks like son William had sons Robert (1917-1987) and William (1915-1990). I would love any shred of info on them.. many thanks...

Monsn, Carrie -m- Soderberg, John Andrew

Looking for my G-GM's family that may have immigrated also around 1879 or '80. What I know is she had a set of twin daughters, born in Norway abt. 1878 or so. When in passage to America, daughter Clara survived, twin sister did not. My G-GF was Swedish and went by John Andrew or Andrew John b. 1-12-1848, known in MN as "Soderberg" but... heard his father's name was Charlie Johnson. Another surname - change connected to him, was probably to Carlson, but no first names are known. Eldest son of the couple was found to be Martin Soderberg, b. April 1880 in Massachusettes, he lived in Aitkin Cty., MN. most of his adult years. John and Carrie raised their family in Meeker Cty., Dassel, MN. I'd seen in one census that 9 of her 12 children were living. Knowing that Elmer was b.in MN 1903, and likely her youngest, 10 names are known. My G-F August Christian Soderberg was born in 1883 MN. His sisters were Tillie(Mathilda), Lillian, Ella, Minnie (Amanda), and Clara.
Brother's names were Martin, Melvin, Menser and Elmer.
John died on Christmas Eve in Dassel 1932. Carrie passed away on August 10, 1945 in Minneapolis. She had resided there with one of her daughters. I haven't any Monson history to search, I'm hoping someone will find her and then contact me. Thanks for checking.

John Monson/Johannes S. MŒnsson

I'm looking for any records associated with John Monson (born
Johannes Samuel MŒnsson in December of 1823 in GŒrdsby parish,
Sweden to parents MŒns Samuelsson and Catharina Jonassdotter.
He emigrated to the US (Illinois?) in the late 1840s, probably with
a wife (who may have been named Caisa or Kaisa), and at least one
child. He had a child in Illinois, then moved in 1855 or 1856 to Chisago
Lake area of Minnesota Territory, where he had an additional child.
He probably died in Chisago Lake area in 1891 -- but beware as there
were two John Monsons there and records appear confused.

Any help on this man, his movements in the US, family in US, would
be very gratefully received. In return, I can tell you his history in
Sweden, and fill in ancestry.

B,

I'm assuming you know that Monson's Swedish spelling is Månsson? Common to southern Sweden (Skåne).

Have you ordered a death cert/obit on Heimer? It would have asked his parents' names.

Also, there is an emigrant CD, somewhere out there -- I would post to the genforum.com SWEDEN board with a EMIGRANT CD LOOKUP in the reference line. It will tell you the village in Sweden, etc.

http://genforum.genealogy.com/sweden/

SWEDISH EMIGRANT CD
The Emigrant CD lists 1,300,000 emigrants leaving Sweden between 1869 and 1930 from five different ports of departure.

There is also a Danish database (often went thru Denmark)

http://www.emiarch.dk/search.php3?l=en

You have to paste in the å for this (use initial H)

I don't see him --- but I think they'll find him on the CD ---- post that request. Also, he emigrated at age 14? Alone? Curious.

Kate in Chicago

Re: Monson, Ole N & Svang, Kari

Hi Janet,
I don't have much info to give you about Ole Monson and Kari Svang, but here goes.
I enter this as a shirttail relative. Ruby Dart married Mons
Helmer Monson aka Elmer Monson. Ruby and Elmer used to live close by my grandparents home. My grandparents and the Monson's were close friends. My mom used to stay with the Monson's when the SD winter storms would be too bad for her to get home. Mom and Harold Monson were friends. Elmer and Ruby had four children; Marvin, Raymond, Doris and Harold. Ruby Dart was the youngest daughter of Nellie and Carroll Dart. Mr. Dart was a banker. Their oldest child was Ethel. Ethel Dart married John Hawkins. John Hawkins had a brother, Dr. A.P.Hawkins and Dr. Hawkins had a son, my Dad. Soooooo, Ruby Dart Monson was the sister to my great aunt Ethel!!
My mom remembers Elmer and Ruby so fondly. I believe that they moved to Michigan and died in the 70's. On to Ole Svang. He and his wife, Birgeta are buried at the Bergen Cemetery in Pierpont. Ole was living with Ole and Kari Monson in the 1900 SD census and he was a widow. My mom says the Monson's were wonderful people.
I also noticed that you have Andrew Foster in your line. Would he be the Andrew Foster that was married to Maude
Riker? I enter into that line also. Maude Riker's sister Ida May married into my family line. I have a picture of Evaline
Soper Riker that was married to Ira Riker. They were Maud's
parents. Family paperwork includes the following names and more; Riker, Stage, Foster, Polkinghorne, Vandervalk, Dettecker, Calkins, Stephenson, Rhodes, Chaddock, Elmer, Skiff etc. It's a small world! Happy hunting!
Sincerely, Penny
