Just to give you a heads up, there are two James k Polk Murphy's from Rutherford County. I am related to the other one. Some years ago, I tracked that line for a while by mistake. Beverly White can shed more light on your line. She helped me figure out there were two JKP Murphy's.
I don't recall yours being in the Civil War. I would love to see the picture if possible to make sure he might not be ours. It is interesting that you quote a posting by a Carole Parish as our James' grandmother is a Parish and we believe there is an Alabama connection for our James. He was a member of the Second Alabama Inf and then the 1st Conf Inf Batt. He left Tenn sometime before the Civil War, later to show up in the Alabama Army.
Email me at murphygenealogy@aol.com I will check to see what I may have on your James and help you get in contact with Beverly.
