I am the one that put this in "our" family line. I am pretty sure, Timothy does not directly connect with our line. I put it there more or less to show, "a Murphy had an important part in winning our freedom.
I would like to exchange data with you, one to correct what I might have, and add to what I have.
I do not have a picture you mentioned. My program takes pictures and I would love to have pictures of the family to add to my database.
If you are interested, please contact me John P Spraberry
at jpspraberry@nts-online.net Cousin John

I am looking for information on the birth places of Patrick Earner born around 1833 and Julia Murphy born around 1847. Patrick and Julia were married in Liverpool 1n 1868. They show up in the 1881 and 1891 census and give their birth place as Ireland but unfortunately do not state where in Ireland. Any help on how to proceed from here would be appreciated.

I have similar problems but found answers to some by looking at the actual parish register and sometimes the priest records where in Ireland bride and groom were born. I see they married at St Patrick's in Liverpool so it might be worth having a look yourself or asking someone for a lookup.

good luck

Sue

Daniel Murphy family in Michigan

I am interested in finding someone who could help me locate an obituary or any other information for this family who lived in Ypsilanti, MI on the Census. They were on previous census records in Houghton Co, MI, also.

Daniel Murphy, born 1831 in Ireland
Margaret, b.1832 in Ireland (previous names Moren, Rooney)
Cornelius b. abt. 1856 in MI
Ellen b.abt 1859 in MI
Honora b.1860 in MI
Maggie (Margaret) b.1863 in MI

Daniel Murphy married Mrs. Margaret Rooney (aka Moren)in 1856 in Coles Co, IL. From the Illinois marriage record index, it isn't clear if Rooney or Moren is her maiden name. I believe they are the couple shown above in Michigan.
She passed away in April of 2000.
When reading the info passed down to me from family, I can NOT make any type of connection from us to Timothy Murphy, the sharpshooter that helped make American free.
I am the daughter of Foy Rudolph Spann, Granddaughter of Alma Murphy, Great Granddaughter of William Riley Murphy and Lula Lambert.

I am looking for the death certificate or a newspaper article on the death of a Frank Murphy. He murdered his wife in Alleghany County, N.C. in December of 1959 and was supposed to stand trail for her death in 1960 but was never brought before a jury. Frank lived in Bel Air, Md. before being brought back to the county on murder charges. Someone told me, and this is just rumor, that he committed suicide and if this is true he might have done so in 1960-61. Would like to know more about Frank Murphy. Any information on his death would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Sincerely,
hawkssn@yahoo.com

Hi,
I did find the marriage to a Mary Murray that you mentioned...But I also found in researching on same site a Wm J. Ray and Mary Murphy married in Kings County, NY Jan 18, 1913. This information makes me believe this could be my Ggrandparents. My grandmother was born 1916 in Kings County..so the time line works. But the only other information it gives is a Cert#710...and Wm J. Ray age of 26 yrs. at time of marriage. I have no idea what to do with that.

I want to guess the J. is for (James) My grandmother once told me that we had a James on my side of family, cause I named my son James after my husbands father.

I will keep you posted with any more information I get...waiting on grandmothers birth certificate.

I do believe Marie Elizabeth Ray Raber is her real FULL name, since this is listed on her marriage cert. and on her Social Security records.

If your grandmother was married in a Catholic Church then the marriage record in the church might list the church she was baptized in in Brooklyn. Those records are easier to obtain

The good news on the birth certificate is it usually does not take that long. but the bad news is I can not find anyone named Marie Ray on NYC Birth pages being born in 1916, thats why think she has a different first name then the one she used.

My mother was called Carol and it was not until about 5 years ago did I learn her real name was Carrie.

I also looked up New York City marriage index and found no record of a William Ray marrying a Mary Murphy, although a Wiliam Ray did marry a Mary Murray.

Although we are probably no relation, I do have cousins named Ray from Brooklyn (My grandmother was a Kennedy, her sister married a Moore and their daughter married a Ray), and my mother-in-law's maidian name is Rae.

I would be interested to learn the outcome of your search.

I have Marie E. Ray Marriage Cert. Listing William Ray and Mary Murphy as her parents. Also list Marie being born in Brooklyn, NY. Exact address on marriage cert also. She was married in Redding,CT. I have attached copy of marriage cert. My grandmother (marie) told me she was an only child. I just wish I asked her more questions before she passed away. I have ordered Marie E. Ray (grandmother) birth certificate, but says it will take 3 months..UGH! I have looked and looked for her parents William and Mary....and nothing adds up. No I have not seen that 1930 census...I am surprised, cause i thought I have looked through all 2 million of them. Thanks for your help

Dawn

Are you sure she was an only child and Marie was her birth name and not what people called her. I cannot tell you how many "beliefs" I have proved wrong since I began this ancestry project.

I guess you saw in the 1930 census a Margaruite Ray born in 1916 in New York living with her mother Mary Ray and a brother William Ray in New Rochelle. The mother is listed as a widow. Since there is no record of a William Ray marrying Mary Murphy in NYC, they could have been from Westchester and living in Brooklyn when Marie was born.
Do you have any idea when she died, or where in Brooklyn she was from?

I am looking for John Murphy, born in Ireland in 1832. He came to the US around 1850, supposedly with several brothers, entering the country in New York. He was in Virginia in 1858, married to Nancy with a son named John H Murphy. He moved on to Grainger County, Tennessee (1870) and eventually to Jefferson County, Alabama (1880). His children were James Temple, John Henry, William A, Robert Taylor, and Johanna. I'm thinking some of the children were named for siblings or parents. Can anyone help?

I don't have any connection to this family. This is from the May 4, 1901 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Courier Gazette. It as in the column entitled "Talk of the Town":

"J.B. Murpy of Waterville assumed charge of the Savoy hotel in this city, Wednesday, and J.A. Lyons, who has made himself very popular as proprietor of the house for the past two or three years, will devote his time to the Carleton House in Rockport. Mr. Murphy, the Savoy's new landlord, has had many years experience in the businesses and will undoubtedly sustain the hotel's operation."

Hi - I know this is a really old post and I ave NO idea if this Peter Murphy is yours (I have NO connection to this family line). I found this is the May 28, 1852 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Gazette:

"FIRE. A fire in Charleston, Mass., on Saturday morning, destroyed a wooden building on Grey's Wharf, and from thence set fire to ship Bell Rock, 800 tons, and destroyed everything above decks. The crew just escaped through the flames, so raidly did they spread. British brig Ann & Maria, was burned in the same way - damage 6,000. Four cars on the wharf, belonging to the Fitchburg Company, and loaded with ice were destroyed. A fireman named Poore, a member of Engine Company No. 2, was much injured when the building fell. He was thrown into the dock, and taken up insensible. Peter Murphy, Mason, was so badly injured, as to be taken up for dead."

Long Island Murphys/Delaney

Edward Joseph Murphy (Died in 1938 I believe) married Anne Delaney (born around 1868) and had 6 children (Helen (Married O'Connor and had 2 children), Jimmy, Marion (Married Donahue and had 4 girls) , Anne (1902-1973 Married Harding and had 3 children), Margaret (Married a Smith) and Edward. Edward Joseph's father was J Edward Murphy...Believe that it's John for the J. Possibly came from Ireland in the early 1800s into New York. Might have come with other siblings (Flora/Francis/Edward have been mentioned). I'm wondering if anyone has any information on the Murphys or the Delaney side. I know that the children of Edward and Anne lived in the Bethpage area and their daughter Anne was my Great Grandmother. If you have any information please let me know either through this thread or by email at divinemissmandy@yahoo.com
Thanks!
~Mandy
