Edward F. MURPHY, b1890, married Waltham, MA, 1913

Hello. I am trying to find out more about my (new) husband's great-grandparents, Peter and Margaret (WHELAN) GAVIN. They arrived in the US in 1883 and married in Waltham, MA, in 1884. They had 8 children who grew up in Waltham. My husband did not know about these siblings of his grandfather.

The Waltham City Clerk has provided me with some information, and one of the daughters, Agnes GAVIN, married in Waltham in 1913 to an Edward F. MURPHY. It seems they were both born ~1890. They initially lived in Waltham, but later moved to Boston. I believe they had 3 children: Leonard, Irene, and Edward.

I don't know anything else about Edward MURPHY, yet. So, I'm wondering how many MURPHY families lived in Waltham in the 1880 to 1900 timeframe.

I have just received an obituary for Leonard MURPHY in 1986, and showed he lived in Scituate, MA. And I'm going to try to find his family. His sister lived in Weymouth, and his brother lived in Needham, but I don't know if they are still alive (born 1920's).

Does anyone know anything about Edward F. MURPHY?

Betty (near Lowell, MA)

James Murphy - 1842? - 1903 > IRE > MA

Searching where James Murphy originated in Ireland. He emigrated to Massachusetts in about 1867. He married Ellen Hession. The 1900 Census in Waltham, MA said he was naturalized, but could not find a record at the National Archives. He may have entered the country in another state. He died in 1903 and on his death certificate his father was listed as William Murphy and mother Catherine Madden. Any info would be appreciated.

3 Murphys moved to Victoria

My GGrandmother was Margaret Murphy (1847-1924). She came to Australia from County Cork in 1866 aged 19. She later married John Hudson. On her marriage certificate her parents were recorded as Edmund Murphy and Mary Finn.
I have recently found two brothers, Patrick (1844-1922) who came to Australia in 1866 and married Julia Gannon in 1872, and David (1846-1928) coming to Aust at a later date, he married Margaret Sexton.
On some certificates the father's name is Edward and each of them had children they named Edward (Patrick named his 1st son Edward Peter and Margaret named her 2nd son Edward Peter - so it is likely that was their father's name.
They each had County Cork as place of origin on their marriages and deaths - so I don't know where to go from there to find out about them and their family.
Can anyone help me please.
Thankyou
Ann

I am trying to find anything about a John William Murphy. He was my great-great grandfather. He was born about 1859 in Georgia. He married Margarett Jane McCormick(g-g gm) who was born in Illinois. All the censuses I have found with them shows them living in McClennan County, Texas. They had four children, Emma Myrtle, John W(illiam--possibly a junior, Irene, and Grady Lee. Any information that anybody could give to help me research this part of my line, would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I am trying to find out where my ancestors came from in Ireland, as we are headed there shortly. Bridget Murphy was born in Ireland October 29, 1941 to J. Flynn and Margaret Hix. They were both born in Ireland, and I don't think they ever left. Bridget married John Murphy and came to the USA in the 1860's or 70's. They had a daughter, Helen, born May 11, 1884 in Lockport, New York. If anyone has information about my family, I would love to hear it. Thank you. Kathy

Looking for relations to James Murphy, of Ballinvoultig, Ballinora Parish, near Innishannon, just south of Cork City.
James married Julia Sullivan around 1844. They had at least seven children: Mary (1845), Margaret (1846), Edward (1847), John (1848), Patrick (1849), Kate, and my great-grandfather, James (1856 - 1929). James married Julia Hallinan of Coolculitha, Innishannon Parish in 1877 in Ballyheada Chapel in the Ballinhassig Parish. They had seven children, including my grandfather, Patrick J. Murphy, who went on to lead the Ballygarvan unit of the Old IRA during the Troubled Times. Thier farm was where Cork Airport is now situated.

I have a lot more info that I can share if anybody can connect. Please remember, my Murphy's were all from the Innishannon, Ballinhassig, Ballinora area. That is just south of Cork City going towards west Cork.

The line stops for the tree at Patrick John Murphy b. March 1857 Ireland. The story goes that he was to come to USA with his brother in 1882, but he came alone because they shipped his brother off to Australia as a criminal.
Washington DC Murphy Family

Recently discovered a Murphy branch in our tree that includes an unknown father born in Pennsylvania (I'm guessing 1870s) who married Anna M. Quinn b. 1881 England, arrived 1885 to U.S. They had three boys, George E. Murphy b. 1900, R. Emmett Murphy b. 1902, and Richard Thomas Murphy b. 30 Jan 1905. All three boys are listed as WA for the birthplace, the oldest brother has District of Columbia spelled out for his birthplace. I've scoured the WA area for Census in 1900 as well as marriage records, but no luck. The unknown father either left or died because suddenly Anna married Thomas Richard Casey in 1906, just after the birth of her youngest son. The three stepsons last names were changed to Casey, which was our most recent discovery, finding out they were really Murphys. Any suggestions would be appreciated and if any of this sounds familiar please reply.

Martin Murphy

My ggg grandfather was Martin MURPHY, probably from Co. Tipperary. I don't have any dates on him, but my GG grandmother, Margaret (MURPHY) CURTIS, was born in 1836, so I'm estimating that he was born in the late 1700s or early 1800s.

Martin was married to Katherine (EVERETT) MURPHY. I don't know of any other children or any other wives.

Does anyone have them in their data base?

JENNIE MURPHY born 1892 Benicia, CA, later lived in Rahway, NJ

I am looking for any info. on Jennie Murphy (possibly Jane, Jeannie, Jean, Jeanette, Jeanne, Jennifer, etc). She was born March 1892 in Benicia, California (Solano County). As of the 1900 census she was still residing in California with her parents (Dennis Murphy & Augusta (Mansson) Murphy), (Dennis also went by the name Daniel)....Jennie's siblings were: Leo, Arthur, and John. Between 1900 and 1910 the family relocated to Rahway, NJ. I estimate that she married about 1911 probably at St. Mary's Church in Rahway to Frederick William Maier (born Jan. 30, 1887 in Newark, NJ). They had 4 children: Frances Mary(aka Marie), Frederick Jr., Stanley, and Mildred (aka Millie). The 1920 census Jennie is listed, the 1930 census she is not. Since Millie was about 3 at the time of the 1930 census, I'm estimating that Jennie passed away between 1927 and 1930. I am searching daily for any photo of her or her family & any additional information.
John Murphy married Catherine Shea in Fallowfiled Ontario Oct 29, 1842. Witnessed by Martin Hanrahan and Sarah Martin.

A John Murphy son of a Catherine died Aug 8 1872 in Petersville, Iowa at the age of 28.

I am assuming that this is John & Catherine's son, Catherine's sister Ann McGinn moved to Petersville Iowa. Are there any Murphy's out there?
