The emigration of John Neal Sr. into.....

Mrs. John Goodall of Charleston Township, Tioga County, PA, was a sister of John Neal. The Goodalls had written a letter home telling of the wonderful hunting and fishing and urged them to come to America. John, his wife Catherine, and young sons, Joseph and John Jr., came to America by sailboat in the fall of 1832. It was a 56 day voyage. They landed in New York, then travelled the canal to Corning, NY in boats drawn by horses, where they were met by his sister and husband, John Goodall, with oxen. They arrived in Charleston Nov. 30, 1832, and stayed with the Goodalls until their house was built.
From another source someone has written that the Neals were met at the boat in New York by the Shefflins who had preceded them from England and had cleared teh land and settled on the flat below where the Neals chose to make their home. It is believed the Shefflins were related to or were best friends of the Neals. It is known that one of the descendants of the Shefflins started the town of Tombstone, AZ.

Neal families to North GA from NC/SC/VA in early 1800's

I'm trying to track down the NEALS who lived in North Georgia in the 1800's, and came from either Virginia, North Carolina, or South Carolina, and track their migration and lineage, hoping to find more about their common ancestors and where they came from.

I've found them in many North Georgia counties, including Whitfield, Walker, Catoosa, Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Dawson, Hall, Chattooga, and probably others throughout the 1800's.

I believe my direct lineage comes from a James P. Neal b. 1798 in North Carolina, and his parents were from Virginia. His wife was from South Carolina, and James might have lived in South Carolina for a time. So I'm looking at other Neals born about the same time who might have been from the same Neal family.

The following Neals might have been brothers, they were born around the same time in North Carolina and migrated to North Georgia:

- James P. Neal b. 1798 in North Carolina, d. after 1880 in Whitfield County, Georgia. Lived many years in Dawson/Lumpkin Counties in Georgia.

- J.C. Neal b. abt 1805 in North Carolina, living in Chattooga County, Georgia in 1850.

- John M. Neal b. abt 1803 in North Carolina, living in Franklin County, Georgia in 1850.

- Moses Neal b. abt 1793 in South Carolina, but his wife was born in North Carolina, both living in Murray County, Georgia in 1850.

- Robert Neal b. abt 1787 in North Carolina, living in Murray County, Georgia in 1850.

- William Neal b. abt 1796 in North Carolina, living in Franklin County, Georgia in 1850.

- William Neal b. abt 1800 in North Carolina, living in Murray County, Georgia in 1850. This William Neal had a son, Alfred J. Neal, who was living near James P. Neal in Whitfield County, Georgia in 1880.

- William F. Neal b. abt 1804 in North Carolina, living in Franklin County, Georgia in 1850.

- UNKNOWN Neal d. before 1850. His widow and children/grandchildren are living in Cherokee County in 1850. Both widow and all children were born in North Carolina, likely this unknown husband also was born in North Carolina.

last but not least

- Dickey Neal b. abt 1776 in North Carolina, living in Franklin County, Georgia in 1850.

----------------------------

Notice how almost all of them are from North Carolina, and ended up in the same or nearby counties in North Georgia? And they all showed up in North Georgia about the same time, and often in the census records you'll find them living near eachother. All of these Neals might not be related, but it's possible many are. James and William (father of Alfred) might have been brothers. Actually, many of them might have been brothers, and Dickey could have been their father.

I haven't yet found a copy of "Beaver Pond Neals of Virginia" to check there.

Anyone who has any information on any of these Neals or their ancestors or descendants, please let me know. I'm really hoping to track them back much farther, and find out how they're related.

Below is the lineage:

1 James P.
We are the Black Neal''s of descended from Jewish Neal''s

Hello All. My famly are the Black Neal's descended from Jews.
My dad is Daniel Neal, grandfather-Ivory Neal,g-grandfather Jeffrey Neal Jr.(a Jew),
and gg-grandfather Jeffrey Neal Sr.(a Jew), that's all my dad knew about the subject.
Ivory Neal was born in Greenwood, Leflore Co., Mississippi, on Febuary 13, 1907.
He died in November of 1973. He married Maggie Allens of Greenwood, Leflore Co., Mississippi,
and had 1 child, Daniel. Shortly after, Maggie Allens died. There are no records of Jeffrey Neal Jr. Sr.
If anyone has any information about them, or can help me in finding info about them, please do. I already went to the
State Library, Genealogy Division, looked through the Data Bases and found neither Maggie Allens, nor Jeffrey Neal Jr. or Sr.
and didn't find them, but in the Social Security Death Index, I found Ivory Neal. I'm 15 yrs. old and have been searching since age 10.
Please aid me in my conquest with, input, advice, information, or any other type of assistance. Thank You for your time.
Your friend in Conquest,

Ryan Neal

I am new to family history research, and I really need some help. My family is from rural Illinois and the records are incomplete or nonexistant. I have a great grandda that I cannot find in any historical records, William "Dump" Davis. He and Roxie Irene Reedy were married before 1928, as their only son was born in Feb 1928 was only 4 pounds and had to be kept in a stove so as to keep him warm. My graddas name was Carroll Davis, and he just passed last year. Being in the military it is hard to just drop by to visit with family between deployments, children and military schools we have very little time for anything else. Any help would be appreciated.
Very Respectfully
Heather K. OrdonezDavis

Fernando P. NEAL (1855-1924) K.C. banker

Fernando P. NEAL was b. 12 May 1855 in IA and d. 20 Feb 1924 in Kansas City, Jackson Co., MO., he married Ida Davis ADKINS (1861-1923). Their children were: Clarence A. b. 1880 KS, Mary E. b. 1895 and Marshal S. b. 1890 MO. F.P. NEAL was a banker and in 1912 he was chairman of the board of Southwest National Bank of Commerce in Kansas City. He was a longtime friend of, and administrator for the estate of, J.K. (Jacob) ZIMMERMAN the millionaire cattleman who died in 1912. I am researching ZIMMERMAN and trying to locate any journals or other information which Mr. NEAL might have recorded. Handling this estate had to have been a remarkable event in his banking career - as surely was his friendship with Mr. ZIMMERMAN. I would be glad for F.P. NEAL's obituary if someone could provide that.

In the 1930 Jackson Co., KC census F.P. NEAL's eldest son, Clarence A., is enumerated with his wife Ida and sons: Clarence Jr. b. abt 1913 and Russell b. abt 1918. Descendants of this family may well be living in Kansas City currently. I hope someone will recognize my description of this family so that I might contact them.

I'm searching for the descendents of the Halifax County, VA John Neal referenced below:

Pg. 117 of "The Beaver Pond Neals of Virginia" by Carl B. Neal 3324 Hoadly Road, Olympia, WA - March 1965 lists "John b. abt 1785..." (this book
is available on film from the LDS) as fifth generation from the original immigrant Steaven Neal (Neall).

"The 4 recorded children of John and Elizabeth [Stokes] Neal are discussed as
follows:

"V.1. John Neal was born probably about 1785. The following is the only record available. Charlotte Co.. DB 17, p. 302 dated 10.8.1824, Deed of Trust; John Neal of Halifax Co. 1st party; Clark and Bacon of said County
2nd party; John Sims 3rd party. John Neal owes Clark and Bacon $251.20 and conveys to John Sims, negroes and 100 acres, 70 acres of which is subject to dower right of Elizabeth Neal being where she now resides. "My interest in estate of my father and grandfather which is now in possession of my mother Elizabeth Neal and my grandmother Mary Ann Neal."

His siblings:
V.2 Thos. Neal.
V.3 Mary Ann "Polly" Neal
V.4 Jinney Neal

IV.3. John Neal 1764 m. Elizabeth Stokes (John is child 3 of 13)
III.1. Thos. Neal 1726-1798 m. Mary Ann Stokes
II.5 David Neal 1700- ? m. Joannah; Lived: Ireland & B.P. (B.P. equals Beaver Pond)
I. Steaven Neal 1670-1740 m. Margaret: Lived: Ireland & B.P.

I believe John Neal (V.1) married Frances Bottom (daughter of Miles Bottom) in Charlotte County, Virginia, eventually migrating to Pickens County, Alabama, then to Noxubee County, Mississippi and Kemper County, Mississippi after 1840.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jack A.

My distant cousin (who I found on another geneology site) and I have been looking for Hannah Neal (mulatto) and husband Samuel Neal (black) for a few years now. They both were living in Edgefield Co., S.C. in 1870 and 1880. They (or she) had 5 or 6 children (?James-mul, Dinah-mul, Sarah Sallie-mul, Sophie-mul, Ailcy-mul, Robert-mul). We can find Hannah & Samuel in the 1870 & 1880 census, but nothing before or after. As far as we know they both were born in Edgefield Co., S.C. It has been very difficult to find them in other records (e.g.,Freeman Registers, Slave Schedules) as well. But I did manage to find a "negro SAM" listed in Hugh Neal's estate sale in 1852 -still researching that one. My cousin is a descendant of Dinah and I am a descendant of Sarah. By the way, Hannah & Samuel's last grandchild is still living at the age of 98!
We would really appreciate any information you may have. Thanks.

Athe / Atha Neal of Monongalia Co, (W)Va. and Greene Co., PA

Im looking for information on Atha Neal. Atha was the second wife of my 5x great uncle Hezekiah Marshall. She was born about 1806 in Pennsylvania and she and Hez married 18 January 1824 in Greene Co.
Hezekiah's father James Marshall apparently had land in Greene Co but the family's main homestead was in Monongalia Co.
After Hezekiah's death in 1842 Atha applied for his Revolutionary War pension. Last census i find her in was 1860 living in the home of her son Joseph Marshall and his wife Eleanor. Several other of her children are also residing there such as son Alexander and daughter Susanna. There were also several women with the last name Tennant there.

If anyone can help me discover who Atha's parents were that would be great. Thank you.

Also need to know who
Essie's father was...Anything"" at all about him would be
so appreciated. (she never knew her father, only that he
was from Lousiana)...If anyone can help me make the connec-
tion and figure this out that would be great. I have been
researching a long time on the other side (Essie's married name; Hines and found alot!)..But this mystery baffles me
that I cannot find out much about my grandmother's family.
