I do not know the names of his parents although I know his maternal grandparents were named Ackerson and are buried in the Stepney Cemetery in Monroe CT. I know he had a daughter by a first marriage and she would have been born sometime before 1937 although I have no idea when....her name is Adelaide. I'd appreciate any information anyone might have. I believe my grandfather was born in New York and I believe his daughter was also.

Looking for any information on William Neville, born between 1820 and 1840 in County Tyrone, married to Ann Daily (or Daly or Daley), with whom he had at least one son, James Joseph Neville, the latter of whom was born in October 1860 (or 1865, or 1868, depending on the source).

Possible associated family names include Morris and Kirk, as James Neville and his family (after he moved to New York City in the 1880s and married Rose MacNamee or McNamee there) had a series of boarders with those two last names from the 1890s through the 1910s, including Edward, Daniel, Sarah, and Katie Morris, and James Kirk.

Any information at all would be most welcome.
Neville, born 1829 in Illinois

My 2nd great grandmother was Mary Ann Neville, born 11 Aug 1829 in Illinois. She married William Harrison Weld, Sr. 22 Dec 1844 in Grant County, Wisconsin, and died 9 Jan 1864 in Shawnee County, Kansas. I'm hoping that someone may see a connection as I'm hoping to identify her parents, or perhaps get some leads. She was 1/4 Potawatomi, making one of her parents (likely her mother) 1/2 Potawatomi. To date, I have hit a brick wall in identifying parents or any siblings. I have also been unable to determine which part of Illinois she was from. Any Neville's out there with Native American ancestry??

Neville/Lynch in Salt Lake City, Utah

My oldest ancestor I know of is JOHN J. NEVILLE. He was born about 1853 in England or Ireland. He married MARY DUNNE around 1880 (Mary was from Wales). Both were school teachers and traveled together to the USA where their first born son JOHN J. NEVILLE was born (Long Island, New York 1881). The family then traveled back to Ireland where a second son (Charles Thomas Neville 1883) was born in Ireland. The father John dies in 1891 and Mary and her two children travel to Paris where Mary (Dunne) Neville is a Nanny. She is run down by a carriage while running from the man of the house and dies in 1893 in Paris. Her two children travel back to Ireland where they stay with the Christy family until John and his brother travel to the USA for good about 1900. Younger brother Charles Thomas dies of Tuberculosis in Colorado in the early 1900's unmarried. John goes on to live his life in Salt Lake City, Utah and has 7 children.

I am trying to connect this oldest ancestor to other Neville's. I am hoping the story rings some bells. I have done some DNA tests (37 markers Y-DNA), but have yet to match anyone, much less with the same surname Neville or any variant. Any info would be great. My email is thewunited@yahoo.com.

I am looking for Leonie Magaret Neville who was born in South Australia around 1947 and may still be alive. Her last known location was Queensland. Her mother was born in Sydney and her name is Coral Lindsay.
I believe we originated from England/ Ireland heritage. This is my first attempt at searching and so far no luck. I would appreciate any information in regards to particularly Leonie Neville as i am desperately trying to find her. She was last seen at age 7 years, living in Adelaide, South Australia. She then moved with her mother to Northen Territory and Queensland was her last known location.

regards,
Tina.

Samuel Nevill and Alice Demint in Illinois

I have recently found a family bible that gave me a little more information on my branch of the Neville family...but I would welcome help from someone who could help me piece this together.

Samuel Nevill (or Neville) was b. 1/15/1958, d. 12/21/1934. He was married to Alice Demint (or DeMente), b. 2/8/1869, d. 7/28/1927.

Their children were:
Oscar E. Nevill, b. 1/9/1888, d. 3/29/1905
Annie E. Nevill, b. 7/30, 1889, d. 3/22/1905
Fleeta Belle Nevill, b. 3/24/1892, d. 1/22/1942
m. Earl Wilson
Archie Nevill, b. 5/20/1894, d. 11/9/1952,
m. Louise Unknown
George Nevill, b. 10/19/1898,
m. Sadie Unknown
Gillis Nevill, b. 5/14, 1901,
m. Lucille Unknown

I have a photo of Samuel and Alice Nevill in front of their home in Belleville, St. Clair County, IL taken about 1923. But the most recent addresses of some of the Nevills listed above had them in DuQuoin, Perry County, IL.

If you have any of the above people in your lines and can help me out, I would certainly appreciate it. I am descended from Fleeta Belle Nevill, and have more information on her lines....but I'm still putting things together. I will be happy to share what I have!

The following, we clip from the Muskegon Chronicle:

Married

Neville – Callahan – At the residence of the bride’s parents. Whitehall, Mich., Sunday, May 23, 1889, by L. W. Earl, pastor of the M. E. church of that place, Mr. George H. Neville, of Nickerson, Kansas, and Miss Uranea M. The good wishes of a host of friends to with them.

Mr. Neville is well known in this city as being a honorable and conscientious gentleman.
Need connection from Sir John Weston/Isolda De Newton to John Weston of Lichfield

Hello:

I am in a rut. I can trace back as far as Sir John Weston of Rugeley, father of John Weston of Lichfield who married Cecilia De Neville. I come to a gap between Robert Weston of Rugeley, who died in 1358, son of Sir John Weston and Isolda De Newton. The "genealogists" who provided their charts on ancestry.com shown that Robert had a child named John born in 1378 twenty years after Robert's death. Which according to my understanding from Bio 101 in college, it is impossible. Any help of the missing link between Robert Weston who died in 1358 and John Weston of Rugeley born in 1450 would be greatly appreciated.

I am still searching for John's parents. The only thing that I know (per my Great Grandmother Pinkerton, nee VanPelt)is that her 2nd Great Grandmother Rebecca Nevil was captured by the Indians. Rebecca bore a child by a chief. In their many moves, Rebecca spotted a landmark near her home (which is now Fincaste, VA) and escaped, supposedly leaving the child (named White Lily) behind. Rebecca maybe John's mother. I have been told this story may not be true, but until it is proved otherwise, I am believing my Great Grandmother. ANY info would be GREAT!! Brenda

John D. Neavill of Jo Daviess Co. IL

Searching for ancestry of John D. Neavill/Neaville/Nevil/Neville, b. TN 12 Dec 1807; d. 7 Jan 1852 San Francisco, CA; m. Maria Louisa Meredith 8 Apr 1838 probably Peoria, Co. IL.

John and Maria had five children in Council Hill, Jo Daviess Co, IL, only two of whom survived childhood (one was my ancestor John A. Neaville). John had moved to Jo Daviess Co. about 1826 and filed lead mining claim.

John had a brother Alexander M. Neavill/Neaville (b. 24 Sep 1809 KY; d. 12 Mar 1881 Potosi, Grant, WI; m. Ann Elizabeth Meredith (sister of Maria Louisa) 1831 in Galena, Jo Daviess, IL. Alexander filed a mining claim 10 Jul 1830 in Galena, IL, and also adopted John's surviving children in Potosi, Grant, WI, after John and his wife died. Alexander's 1880 US census entry indicated parents were born in VA.

John possibly had another brother Ephraim Neavill, who was born 5 Jul 1806 in VA and died 25 Mar 1894 in Whittier, Angeles, CA. He had two wives, (1) Rachel Cox, m. 29 Apr 1832 Council Hill, Jo Daviess, IL, and (2) Catherine Van Hook, m. 1 Oct 1850, Lafayette Co, WI.

My leading candidate for father of these three brothers is James Neaville, who also filed a mining claim at Galena 1826-7 and appeared in the 1830 census there with family composition close to what would be reasonable. Family also passed thru Champaign, Sangamon Co, IL in mid 1820's based on voter poll books and migration of future spouses and their siblings.

Can anyone provide any clues?

Thanks,
Wayne Olsen

Does anyone out there have James in their family history? James would be between the ages of 26 to 45 and have 2 sons under 10, 3 between 10 and 16, 1 daughter under 10, one between 16 and 45(Ruth?), one 26 to 45 and one 45 and over. Thanks for the response.

Neville DNA testing?

Hi, all!

Does anyone know if there are any DNA studies going on to find out whether John Neville (1612-1664) is actually the son of Edward Neville (1551-1622) and Rachel Leonard, and further back, Sir Ralph Neville?

When I came down with the genealogy bug months ago, I took as "proved" that our John Neville was of the Lord Abergavenny/Westmoreland line, because that's what I found in the various online sources, and I have a nice, thick binder full of the research. Except now I understand that it is a theory, but not proven. Please correct me if I'm wrong; I'd love to hear that we *know* it.

With so much DNA testing in other family groups, I wondered if the American Neville clan is involved in testing to prove or disprove the relationship.
Cicily or Cecily Neville/Nevile/Nevill

We have come to a brick wall in family history research due to being unable to find a link for Cicily or Cecily Neville. Our ancestor is John Weston of Lichfield - his younger son was Robert Weston who became Lord Chancellor of Ireland in 1567. In a book about Robert, he is described as the 3rd son of John Weston of Lichfield by Cicily, sister of Ralph Nevile, Earl of Westmoreland. The only Cecily we can find is the one who marries the Duke of York - fairly certain it's not the same one! Does anyone have any references to another Cicely or Cecily in the family?

Thank you for any help!

Su

Looking for information on Francis Neville, born January 14, 1792 in England. Francis married Joseph Moorhouse February 24, 1812. She and Joseph had 9 children, with 8 of them being born in Repton, Derby, England, the 9th child being born in Ohio. Francis and Joseph came to America between late 1830 and early 1834. I cannot find any record of Francis's parents with her father being listed as unknown in christening records. This is supported more by the fact she was not christneed until she was about 8 years of age. About 1850, and after Joseph had dies, she married Ira Hill. I have about 4,000 names in my Moorhouse files and will share with relatives. Please contact via e-mail if possible.

Nevills in Oklahoma

Jack,
There may be descendants from my family line of Southern Illinois Nevills in Oklahoma. My GGGrandfather Samuel Griffith Nevill (b.1822 in Jackson Co. TN), Third Son of Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Polly) Pollock Nevill, both born 1792), left for Oklahoma in about 1878 after his wife Malinda Quillman died. His 3 youngest children Samuel (b.1862), Sarah(b.1865), and David (b.1868), left with him. They are known to have farmed in OK and also Dallas Co. TX. The family was known to be in Dallas Co. Texas in the 1880 census. Sam (1862)was in Elk twp., Washita Co. OK. farming in 1900. In 1912 he and his wife Sarah Frances Smith later had a store in Mountain Grove, MO. He died and is buried in Blanche, MO Aug 24,1934. He and Frances married Dec 20,1883 in OK. They had 11 children. I have also found this Sam in Blanchard, OK and Covington, OK. His daughter Laura Laberta Nevill married Wesley Shepherd in Henryetta, OK. in 1908 Sam's (1862) brother David is found to be in Greer Co. OK. in 1905. My GGrandfather George's obit indicates Sarah died before 1937. We have absolutely no record of what became of Samuel Griffith Nevill (b.1822). I have a very good group picture of a 1920 family reunion of descendents of Samuel Griffith and Malinda Quillman Nevill. Samuel (1862) and some of his family returned for this Southern Illinois event. Two of his brothers George W. Nevill (b.1850) and William Alexander Nevill (b.1851) Along with many of their family are in this grouping.

This is the same Perry Co. IL family Virginia wrote about. Samuel Griffith Nevill is a younger brother of John Wesley Nevill (b.1816)

The family came to Iowa about 1854, as I have a few obituaries, including Hannah's, Athalia's, and Daniel's, as well as copies from Daniel's probate file in Indpendence, Iowa. My line as follows: Me, my mother Cheryl Colton, my grandmother Patricia Chandler, my great grandmother Erma Rose Snyder, my great great grandfather Elmer Snyder, my great great great grandfather Daniel Snyder and wife Athalia Downs.

Beverly Y. Pettiford

I am looking for any information on either Beverly Y. Pettiford ('03), or Barbara Y. Pettiford, (d.circa75). Both resided for some time in Washington, DC. Records indicate that Beverly's last area of residence was possibly Orange, VA. Also, Barbara, is Buried at the Congressional Cemetary in DC. Any information would be appreciated.

thanks
