Lucy NOONAN obit 1902

...from the Oklahoman Newspaper archives in Oklahoma City, OK, dated:

08-01-1902
p.5

In Memoriam

The many friends of Lucy Noonan were saddened to know of her recent illness and shocked to hear of her death, which occured at St Anthony's hospital July 27, 1902.

The deceased was born at Rochester, Minn., in September,
1866. She lived there until the opening of this country, when she and the rest of her family prepared to come here.
They arrived in September 1889, and this has been her home ever since.

With her lovable nature she not only made friends with a firm grasp until death claimed her, and now we shall ever cherish her, and hold sacred the memory of one of the noblest of women that ever came to Oklahoma. She was a devoted Catholic and at the time of her death was surrounded by those of her faith. The funeral was held at St Jospeh's church last Monday morning and then the remains were laid to rest by the side of those of her father at Fairlawn cemetery.

The sympathy of the entire community goes out to the dear
mother, brothers, and sisters here and the good sister of the Order of the Franciscan, who resides at Winona, Minn.
Miss Noonan's life was a rare and beautiful example of womanly devotion and christian fortitude, a combination in which unselfish love and patient sacrifice were strangely mingled, and her death will only serve to add an ungiving glory to the usefulness of her splendid life.

***posted for genealogical purposes only; no relation***
NOONAN, THOMAS PATRICK, JR. Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient VIETNAM

NOONAN, THOMAS P., JR.

Rank and organization: Lance Corporal, U.S. Marine Corps, Company G, 2d Battalion, 9th Marines, 3d Marine Division. Place and date: Near Vandergrift Combat Base, A Shau Valley, Republic of Vietnam, 5 February 1969. Entered service at: Brooklyn, N.Y. Born: 18 November 1943, Brooklyn, N.Y. Citation: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a fire team leader with Company G, in operations against the enemy in Quang Tri Province. Company G was directed to move from a position which they had been holding southeast of the Vandergrift Combat Base to an alternate location. As the marines commenced a slow and difficult descent down the side of the hill made extremely slippery by the heavy rains, the leading element came under a heavy fire from a North Vietnamese Army unit occupying well concealed positions in the rocky terrain. Four men were wounded, and repeated attempts to recover them failed because of the intense hostile fire. L/Cpl. Noonan moved from his position of relative security and, maneuvering down the treacherous slope to a location near the injured men, took cover behind some rocks. Shouting words of encouragement to the wounded men to restore their confidence, he dashed across the hazardous terrain and commenced dragging the most seriously wounded man away from the fire-swept area. Although wounded and knocked to the ground by an enemy round, L/Cpl. Noonan recovered rapidly and resumed dragging the man toward the marginal security of a rock. He was, however, mortally wounded before he could reach his destination. His heroic actions inspired his fellow marines to such aggressiveness that they initiated a spirited assault which forced the enemy soldiers to withdraw. L/Cpl. Noonan's indomitable courage, inspiring initiative, and selfless devotion to duty upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.

Source: http://www.army.mil/cmh-pg/moh1.htm

BURIAL INFORMATION

Location: Woodside (Queens), New York

Cemetery: 1st Calvary Cemetery

Born: 1943 at Brooklyn, NY

Died: 1969 Killed in Action -- Awarded Posthumously.

Source, additional information and cemetery monument photo:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/gravesites/states/pages_go/noona...

Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_P._Noonan%2C_Jr.

Note: This is not my ancestry.
John J. Noonan from County Cork, Ireland

Hi I'm Joe Noonan from Austin Texas. I'm trying to find out some more
information about my great grandfather, John J. Noonan. He moved to
Oconto,Wisconsin from Ireland (County Cork) sometime in the 1860s and married Mary
Louise Maroney July 5th, 1869. He had 7 children of which one became a
Sister (Sister Catherine - Kate) in 1892 at Notre Dame Convent and
Herbert C. became a priest. John J Noonan died Dec. 22, 1922 and was
buried at St. Josephs Cemetery in Oconto as well as his wife who died June 14,
1912. Several of his children were also buried at St. Josephs including
John J. Jr. who died 9/14/1939.

Mary Louise Maroney was from County Clare, Ireland and was born Nov. 26,
1844 or 1842.
John J. Noonan was born in County Cork, Ireland on Nov. 5, 1845.

So I have quite a bit of information from their marriage on, but I don't
know anything about their parents or the city they were from in
Ireland. Or any of their siblings. So I was hoping to get anything
else that you may have in your records for them or their parents. My
wife and I are going to Ireland this month and wanted to do some
searching but it would be nice to have some additional information to go
on. If you can help me at all it would be very much appreciated. Thank
you and God Bless all those Noonan ancestors.

My maternal Granfather James M. Noonan was born Feb 14,1880 in Aredelougher,Leitrim COunty ireland. He immigrated to Boston in the early 1900's. He apprently enlisted in the Army just as WW-1 was ending. I do not believe he legally changed his name from Noone to Noonan and thus he did not get naturalized because the records did not match. He was married to mary T. Winston as James Noonan. The family lived in Charlestown and he worked in the Navy Yard. Any help would be appreicated.

John Noonan, Brooklyn 1880, son Thomas

The 1880 census for NYC has John and Mary,
both age 23 and Thomas, age 1. Could have
been the beginning of a large family. The
address for them was 194 Greene St in
Brooklyn. John's father was probably Peter
and, it this is true, his mother was Hannah
Flaherty, my g-gf's sister. Have the
connection to Ireland if this is all true.
At the same time, 1880, Hannah was on the
census of D.C. as widow living with sister
Maria Flaherty. Peter had a brother, Patrick,
and his widow, Ann, was living with Hannah
& Maria at 27 Jackson St in D.C.

I am seeking information on my mother's childhood. Her name is Mary Noonan. She was born Mary Elizabeth Ann Watson in Farmington, Maine on May 25, 1939. Her biological parents were Lewis A. Watson and Patrice Watson. She was one of 8 children. Her siblings' names are Barbara Watson, Vinny Watson, Lewis Watson, Eileen Watson, Tom Watson. Mary was separated from her family sometime in the mid 1950's and raised by the Nee family of Farmington Maine. (Marion Nee married Robert Marquis, and that is all I know of the Nee family). Mary Nee-Watson married Edward Joseph Noonan Jr. from Dorchester Massachusetts in 1960. Edward was an only child and died on September 10, 2002. Mary and Ed had 6 girls, Lynne, Donna, Michelle, Denise, Kerry and Kelly. Any help you can provide on my mom or her families is greatly appreciated.

Seeking Mike or Michael Noonan

Hello everyone, I'm seeking a man by the name of Mike Noonan... this is not for ancestry purposes but for a personal reason. I must find him. The internet is a last resort for me to find him. If anyone knows of a Mike Noonan would you please email me at sjarvis20@yahoo.com or shellyl@midwestsurveys.com. A brief description of him, he's probably between the ages of 23-29, approximately 5' 10", light brown hair, drove a blue Ford short box pick up, said he was originally from Perth Ontario, had a friend by the name of Rob Kelly, worked in Alberta pipelining a few winters ago (maybe still does) running heavy equipment for a company called Surerus. If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know. I'm desperate to find him, any help would be appreciated.

Michael Noonan - Cork

My grandfather was Michael Noonan, born in Cork, around 1905/08. He came over to England and settled in the Oxford area. His wife was Nora (not sure yet of maiden name) from Clonmel. They had 12 children, the first of which was Michael, born 1933. Does anyone have an entry in their family tree that may match with this ? The Irish records seem difficult to track down.

NOONAN RICHARD "DICK" CULLEN Richard ``Dick ' ' Cullen Noonan, a resident of Carlsbad for 24 years, passed away March 16, at Tri City Hospital. He was 78 years of age. He graduated from San Diego High School and San Diego State College. He served in the US Army Air Forces in WWII and was recalled briefly from 1950-1951. Dick retired from the County of San Diego after 22 years in the Juvenile Probation Division as a Probation Officer Supervisor. Because of his multiple talents, his hobbies were diverse. Locally, Dick was notorious for his great sense of humor, along with a pocket full of candy and playing bridge. From childhood, Dick studied and marveled in Indian culture. With great enthusiasm and painstaking efforts, and from his deep love and appreciation of this culture, Dick created stunning carvings and paintings. This is how his legacy will indeed thrive, through his family that has adored and cherished him. Dick leaves behind his two grieving sisters, Marjorie S. Pryor and Patricia M. Bauwens, both of San Diego, numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, loving brothers and sister-in law, and his Bridge playing buddies at the Carlsbad Senior Center. He will be enormously missed by all. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 3, at 1 p.m. at St. Therese Parish, 616 Camino Rico, San Diego, 619-582-3716. A celebration of life will follow at his sister ' s house. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to a hospice of your choice. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com
Published in the San Diego Union-Tribune on 3/28/2004. (volunteer submission)

Frederick P. Noonan AKA George F. Cummings

From The Acton [MA] Beacon, 24 July 1852 -

MAYNARD -- A disabled veteran of World War II who says he has not seen his mother since he was kidnapped from his home near Taunton at the age of six, visited Maynard this week in search of her.

George F. Cummings, christened Frederick P. Noonan, says he was stolen from his mother's home near Taunton in 1917 while his mother, Katie Noonan, was shopping. After that he lived with people named Cummings and he was called by that name. He was born January 28, 1912, in Raynham, Massachusetts. His real mother, Katie Noonan and he lived in Raynham and Taunton. She may have later married a man by the name of Horton, possibly after that a Westgate.

Because he can find no records of her death in answers to his questions in forty-four states, he feels sure that Katie Noonan is living.

In World War II he served in the 6th Armored Division, was wounded by German Shrapnel and is unable to work. He lives in his trailer home at Marty's Trailer Court, 3 Southwest Cut-off, Worcester.

Maynard Town records have yielded no new evidence, but he will keep on looking for his mother wherever she is. He says his mother's favorite song was "In the Home Sweet Home of Mother."
Hi,

I just posted an old death notice for Bridget NOONAN, wife of John NOONAN, of Vallejo, CA. This was scanned from an original issue of the Dixon Tribune newspaper (NOT microfilm!!) dated April 10, 1880. You can see it online here:

http://theoldentimes.com/bridgetnoonan80dixca.html

I hope it's of interest!

Barbara
http://theoldentimes.com/deaths.htm
http://theoldentimes.com
