I am looking for help with tracing my ancestors in Ireland
My G.G. Grandfather was James Nugent and he had at least 3 children. Francis (b.1835), Michael and Edward/Edmond/Ned born around the same time. Francis (my g.grandfather) migrated to Derbyshire, UK around 1850 and married Ellen Darcy, originally from Ennis, Co Clare. One of his brothers migrated to America and I have no trace of any of his descendants. The other brother stayed in Ireland and he and his descendants farmed land in Corrakyle and the surrounding areas.
Any Nugents out there who think they may be able to help can email me on darryl.nugent@yahoo.co.uk

Thanks

My great grandfather is Frank Nugent, middle name either starts with a B or an E. He was born around or prior to 1880, he met and married my great grandmother in Sibley, Illinois. They had a daughter born in 1910 in Spokane, Washington. I find a Frank Nugent in the 1910 census in Spokane, he is in jail. My great grandmother had a brother in Spokane who she probably lived with at the time. But after this he just disappears, my great grandmother remarried by 1920 and no one knows what happened to Frank Nugent or where he came from, any leads would be helpful.

I am looking for any information on my father's family. His name was Harry Earl Loftis- born in Texarkana Tx., his Mother's name was Willie Nugent, this was all I knew till recently. I have recently found that her parent's names were William Nugent and Martha "Mattie" Ellen Jones, born around 1855 in Texas died about 1926 in Tx., William was 1845? to 1926 Tx. Their other children besides my Grandmother Willie were John,Cappie,Fannie,Mary,Nannie, Dudley and Edmond Earl?. Also their Grandson, Reagan Loftis was on the 1920 census(5yrs.old) as living with them, I think because his my Willie (Nugent) Loftis died in 1919, which was my Father's brother, I can not find what happened to him between there and 1959 when my Mother told me she met him, at that time he was living in Tennessee, and my father called him "Charlie". Also I found that Mary Nugent married a John Hardy Duke and they had several children around Mt. Pleasant, Tx. Most of the info. I find is around the Titus Co area. If anyone has any info. Please let me know, my maiden name is Brenda Loftis e-mail--mprendiville@bellsouth.net. Thanks.

Just search for some background on the name Nugent. My mom's maiden name was Nugent, Julia Therea Nugent and she grew up in Dublin, Ireland near a canal that she and brothers and sisters used to swim in . I know my mom is 1 of 16 children and my grandfather died maybe around age 45. There are so many brothers and sisters that I can not remember them all, but I can tell you that I have an Uncle Eddie that died a little while ago.

St. Louis Nugents

I am trying to find information on the parents of John Francis Nugent. John married Elizabeth McNamee in 1887. He was born Oct 1863 in St. Louis, MO and died 28 Aug 1915 in St. Louis. His father was likely named John Patrick Nugent who immigrated from Ireland to St. Louis where he and his wife raised their family.

John and Elizabeth Nugent's son, also named John Patrick Nugent, was born 31 Aug 1888 in St. Louis and died 10 Aug 1950 Valley Park, St. Louis, MO. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Adams in 1910.

The names "Patrick" and "Francis" were given on a rotating basis, at least as far back as the John from Ireland. I have more info on the descendants of John and Mary (Adams) Nugent.

Before he died, my grandfather, John Elmer Nugent, said that his Nugent line came from County Cork, Ireland but that has not been proven.

Below is a link to an 1880 St. Louis census in which "Patrick" Nugent was head of household. His wife Martha and children John and Martha are present. I believe this family is headed by John Patrick and the son John is John Francis, my 2nd great grandfather.

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&rank=...
=&rg_81004011__date=&rs_81004011__date=0&_8000C002=&f28=&_80008002
=&f16=&_80018002=&f6=&f11=&f10=&f22=&f43=&gskw=&prox=1&db=1880usfedcen&ti=0&ti.si=
0&gss=angs-d&pcat=35&fh=0&recid=43478045&recoff=1+2+26+106

If anyone recognizes this Nugent family please respond.
NUGENTS of Philadelphia

I am also looking for NUGENTS in Philadelphia. In the 1900 census Philadelphia 39 WD, Bertha L. SPENARD b. Jun 1884 is living with her parents, Adolph and Sallie or Sarah SPENARD, on McKean Street. According to the census Adolph and wife have been married 19 years, two children were born to this union, but only Bertha survives.

I have found no marriage record for Adolph and wife Sallie or Sarah. According to the 1900 census the wife and both of her parents were born in New Jersey. The wedding could have taken place in Philadelphia or in New Jersey, perhaps Camden????

By 1910 Bertha is married to William J. Nugent for 5 years and they have a son, William, b. abt 1906. William Sr.’s father, Patrick W., is living with them. According to the census, Patrick was born in PA, but his parents were from Ireland. Patrick is 77 and the census record looked like it said he is married 58 years, but no wife is living there. I may be misreading this.

In 1920, the NUGENT household consists of William, Bertha, William, Marion, Adolph and Sarah SPENARD and 2 roomers.

In 1930, the NUGENT’s live on North Park Ave., 32 WD Philadelphia, and the household consists of William, Bertha, Marion, Roberta, Adolph SPENARD and a roomer.

Tried looking for son William in 1930. I find a possibility. There is a William S. 23 with wife Marie E., 23 and daughter, Marie S., 3 3/10 living in Camden, NJ.

If any of these names are familier to you, I would like to hear from you.

Thanks,
Jan
Sometime in the early 1800s Elizabeth Canniff married a John Nugent in Upper Canada possibly in Hastings or Lennox/Addington Counties. The name Richard Nugent also comes up. Elizabeth may have been the widow of Peter Caverly. In 1831 she was named in the will of Peter Caverly as Elizabeth Nugent. Trying to narrow down the marriage order and dates or any other related information to these individuals.

Regards,
Paul Caverly

Hugh Nugent/Mary Humphries

I am looking for the family of Hugh Nugent who was married to Mary Humphries in Beinville Parish Louisiana in 1855.
Hugh later died during the Civil War. At that time the family was living north of Pineville Louisiana. I can find no census records for Hugh at all, and so far only one of Mary in Catahoula Parish in 1850. There is a Hugh Nugent
listed on that census but his age shows him to be 4 years old in 1950. The Hugh I am looking for would have been born in 1834. It could have been a mistake on the 1850 census and been 14 instead of 4 which would have put the Hugh listed closer to my target date. Does anyone have any information that would be helpful? Thank you.

Nugents from Canada

There are two family members I am trying to research.

I have an Aaron (Aron) Nugent born about 1843 in Camden Township, Addington/Lennox County, Ontario Canada. He married 18 February 1868 to Elizabeth Veley (sp Vely) in Portland Township. On their marriage registration, Aaron's parents are listed as Thomas and Ellen, yet I cannot seem to find any information on them through extensive research.

Aaron and Elizabeth had several children. One of which is Annie M. Nugent born July 1877, Married at Donald Mills in 1896 to William Duffey b. 1876 of Pittsburg Township. She is found on the 1901 Census living with Charles and Elizabeth Joyner in Olden Township. She is listed as a Widow with her two Children and she is also listed as "adopted" in relation to head of household(Charles Joyner). My Grandmother (still living) knew her and said she lived till 1954 and is buried in Kingston, yet I can find no record of her existing past the 1911 census and her two children are not found either. We have searched for her under Nugent, Duffey, Joyner and variation of spellings.

Anyone with additional information on anyone listed above, please feel free to contact me.

Stuck on Michael Nugent

My ancestor is Michael Levi Nugent (b.1852 d.1876) and married to Rosalie Guillory of Louisiana.

Michael Levi's parents were Michael Nugent (b.1806 d.1865) and Mary Jane Droddy.

Finding Michael Nugent's parents has been quite a headache! I found two different sources that say two different things.

One is that Michael Nugent is actually "Matthew Michael" and is the son of Matthew & Zylpha Nugent.

However, other records I have found indicate that Matthew & Zylpha had a son named Matthew William, who married Julia Ann Mackie - not a Matthew Michael married to Mary Jane Droddy. Matthew William was born in 1802 and died 1879.

The other is that Michael Nugent is the son of Thomas Edmond Nugent, wife unknown. Thomas Edmond, "Edmond", (b.1750 d.1815) is the son of Matthew Nugent & Isabel MacBray of North Carolina.

I am absolutely stumped as to who the true parents of Michael Nugent, m. to Mary Jane Droddy, are. The info I have been able to dig up is conflicting. If anyone could shed any light on this, it would be *so* greatly appreciated.

You may contact me at skatoolaki@gmail.com.
Noojin/Newgent in Blount - De Kalb - Etowah counties in Alabama, 1800s

Looking for info on the NOOJIN or NEWGENT family of De Kalb County, Alabama (parts of it later incorporated into Etowah County) in the 1800s.

Elizabeth M. GILBREATH (d/o Baxter GILBREATH & Jane Elizabeth TANNER) supposedly married a Melford NOOJIN/NEWGENT in 1828 in Alabama. However, every DOB I've seen for Melford indicates he was born in 1815. I would think a 13-year-old boy too young to marry, even in those times, especially since Elizabeth would have been 19 years old in 1828! In the 1830 census for Blount County, Alabama (before the formation of De Kalb) is a Medfed NEWGENT with 1 male under 5, 1 male 20-30, 1 male 30-40 and 1 male 50-60, 1 female under 5 and 1 female 20-30. Next door is Baxter GILBREATH, Elizabeth's father. Is the oldest man a Medford Sr? Or did young Medford fudge his age and make himself 20 instead of 15 and get listed as head of household? I'm given to understand that Elizabeth died in 1837. Did Medford ever remarry? His son, Francis Marion, married into Elizabeth's family, the GILBREATHs.

Francis Marion NOOJIN married three times, his third wife being his cousin, Queen Victoria GILBREATH. She was the daughter of George M. GILBREATH & Eliza HORTON. George was brother to Francis' mother Elizabeth GILBREATH NOOJIN. In the 1850 census for De Kalb County, Alabama, a Marion Neugent is listed in the household of J. E. & Mariah GILBREATH. (This is John Ellison GILBREATH, another brother to Elizabeth GILBREATH NOOJIN & his wife Mariah BURNS.) The age is a little off to be Francis, but not too off. (He's listed as 16, should be about 14, but it's close.) Also in the home are Mariah's mother, brother and sister, an Eliza NEUGENT and John & Mariah's own children. (In a bit of coincidence, living next door are a couple whose granddaughter will marry the son J. E. GILBREATH's niece. Small county!)

Looking for more on the NOOJIN/NEWGENTs, and hoping it will lead to more info on my GILBREATHs. Thanks......

I have NO additional information. I am just passing along information that may be useful.

NUGENT, CHRISTOPHER

Rank and organization: Orderly Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps. Born: 1840, County of Caven, Ireland. Accredited to: Massachusetts. G.O. No.: 32, 16 April 1864. Citation: Serving on board the U.S.S. Fort Henry, Crystal River, Fla., 15 June 1863. Reconnoitering on the Crystal River on this date and in charge of a boat from the Fort Henry, Orderly Sgt. Nugent ordered an assault upon a rebel breastwork fortification. In this assault, the orderly sergeant and his comrades drove a guard of 11 rebels into the swamp, capturing their arms and destroying their camp equipage while gallantly withholding fire to prevent harm to a woman among the fugitives. On 30 July 1863, he further proved his courage by capturing a boat off Depot Key, Fla., containing 2 men and a woman with their baggage.
Still looking for information on Robert Nugent born 1801 who married Rebecca Quin born 1807 both born and married in Ireland before moving to Isle of Man around 1837/38. Children born in Ireland were James abt 1826, Robert 1829, Alexander 1834, John 1836. William 1839 and Joseph 1842 were both born in the Isle of Man. Most of the family moved to either Liverpool or mainly Birkenhead. I do not know which part of Ireland they came from so tracing any further back is difficult - if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them. Kathy

Anyone interested in starting a DNA project? Using DNA we might be able to connect some of those branches that have disappeared in the mists of time. I have lines that have moved across the US and Canada and been lost to the rest of the family. DNA might be the only hope of connecting these "lost" lines. It might also help with those families that emigrated to the same place as existing lines that we can not find a connection to.
If anyone is interested please contact me and we can discuss it.
Thanks
Allan NUGENT from Alberta
I am trying do my genealogic tree of my family, but in Brazil there is not enough information. All kind of documents are rare and hard to find. That I know is that 3 Nugent men from Liverpool came to Brazil around 1900 to work in ( eu não sei carvão, procura no diconário) Carvão Mines, 2 of them went back to England but 1 stay here and married. That Man was called Peter Nugent, came to live in the South of Brazil, were I am living right now. But I cant find anything about him or our family. I have no pics, no documents, nothing. If you know somebody or some site in internet that have some information, to tell me, I will be very happy. Again, Thank you very much.
Carlos
"carlos nugem" <certinho2005@hotmail.com>

These Nugents were siblings living in San Francisco in 1880. John F.(36) and Dennis (39) were both Catholic priests, Kate (24) was an organist, and Maggie (22) was "at home." I know that John F. had been born in Newry, Ireland , in 1842, and was ordained in Rome in 1872, after which he emigrated to the U.S. He became pastor of St. Brendan's church in San Francisco in 1879.

Any information about his parents' names , other siblings, or why all four were living together in San Francisco at this time would be appreciated.

Thanks
