A Painter DNA Project is underway to try and link family lines. As many of you know tracing the Painter tree is often very frustrating, the DNA project will hopefully give many of us a link to other Painter lines and allow us to fill in the blanks to many of our dead ends. For further information go to: www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/painter/.

Mark

Who were the children of Franklin County, Ohio, settlers Isaac Painter and Elizabeth Redd? Candidates, based on time and location, include Nathaniel, John, and Andrew Jackson Painter enumerated in county censuses beginning in 1840, plus Sarah Painter, who married John C. Martin in 1826, and Mary Painter, who married Abraham Strait in 1836. Are there any records that connect Isaac and Elizabeth with the younger generation of Painters?

Isaac Painter and Elizabeth Redd were married on 13 August 1799 in Frederick County, Virginia. [A] Isaac, a son of Isaac Painter and Sarah Hains, was named in his father’s 1805 will. Elizabeth, a daughter of Andrew Redd and Elizabeth Hollingsworth, was named in her father’s 1818 will.

Isaac was an early settler of Jefferson Township, Franklin County, Ohio, and was a justice of the peace there in 1821 and 1835. He was enumerated in the township in the 1830 census, but does not appear in the 1840 census. Elizabeth reportedly died on 11 November 1847--does anyone know the source of this information?

In the 1840 U.S. Census for Jefferson Township, Franklin County, Ohio, the households of John Painter and Jackson Painter are listed on successive lines. And Nathaniel Painter was enumerated in the county’s neighboring Truro Township.

John Painter remained in Jefferson Township in the 1850 and 1860 censuses, and Jackson—as A. J. Painter or Andrew J. Painter—was enumerated there in 1860, 1870, and 1880. In the 1850 census for Truro Township, the household of Andrew J. Painter immediately follows that of Nathaniel Painter. (While Andrew’s name was recorded as “David” J. Painter, his identity is confirmed by his wife Rachel, who tracks consistently from the 1850 through 1880 censuses.)

The late Harold Painter in “The Painter Family” (1975), p. 42, identifies only one child of Isaac and Elizabeth: son John Painter, born 1809, plus grandchildren including Lewis Painter. The source of Harold Painter’s information is not indicated.

The "History of Franklin & Pickaway Counties, Ohio," (Williams Bros., 1880), p. 399, gives the following account of the early settlers of Franklin County’s Jefferson Township:

"In the same year [1814] came Isaac Painter, John Inks, and Joseph Compton, all of them from Lancaster county, Pennsylvania. Isaac Painter located at the crossing of the Black Lick road and Broadway pike, where J. Milburn now lives. A son Lewis Painter, is in the township, and is one of its large farmers, and representative men."

The account is partially correct, but the Lancaster part is wrong. Isaac Painter had no connection at all with Pennsylvania. The correct Lancaster is the county seat of Fairfield County, Ohio. Before settling in Franklin County, Isaac and Elizabeth Painter probably lived for a time in Fairfield County, Ohio, where Isaac Painter was a witness of the 1808 will of wife’s brother, “George Reed.” Sergeant Isaac Painter served for a few weeks in a militia company probably from Fairfield County during the War of 1812. Isaac’s brother, Abraham Painter spent the winter of 1810-11 in Lancaster, Ohio, when he migrated from Frederick County, Virginia, to Logan County, Ohio.

As for Lewis Painter, he was born in 1838, possibly when Isaac Painter was no longer living and Isaac’s wife Elizabeth would have been age 55. Lewis was enumerated in 1850 in the household of John Painter, and appears to be John’s son—and thus possibly a grandson of Isaac Painter.

EEP

[A] Marriage license: Isaac Painter and Elizabeth Redd, 13 Aug 1799, Frederick Co., Virginia. (John Vogt & T. William Kethley, Jr., "Frederick County Marriages, 1738-1850" (Athens, Ga.: Iberian Publishing Co., 1984), p. 400.)

Cross posted to: Painter; Redd; Fairfield County, Ohio; Frederick County, Virginia; and Franklin County, Ohio message boards.
Redd - Painter challenge #1: Frederick Co., Virginia & Richland Co., Ohio

John Painter (1775-1860), a son of John Painter and Susannah Stratton, was born and grew up in Frederick County, Virginia. He is reported to have married twice. His second wife, Rachel Redd, daughter of George Redd and Rachel Fawcett, is reasonably well documented, as are their 12 children. There is an 1808 marriage record for John and Rachel #2, and ensuing Quaker disciplinary actions against Rachel, her father, and John’s brother Robert. [A]

John Painter’s first wife is the challenge. John Painter and Rachel Redd, probable daughter of Andrew Redd and Elizabeth Hollingsworth, may have been married in the mid- or late-1790s. Yet there is no surviving marriage record, nor does there seem to be any original document that mentions Rachel #1 specifically. The couple reportedly had five sons. Nothing is known of two of them, reportedly Lawrence and Washington, except their names. For the remaining three sons, reportedly Jacob, Andrew, and Ephraim, no known document links them to their parents nor to each other.

About the closest item of proof that Rachel Redd #1 existed and married a Painter is the 1818 will of Andrew Redd of Frederick County, Virginia. He directed: “to my grandson Ephraim Painter one hundred and fifty dollars to be paid to him by my executor when he arrives at the age of twenty one years.” Ephraim clearly was not a son of Andrew Redd’s daughter Elizabeth (also mentioned in the will) who married in 1799 Isaac Painter (a first cousin of John Painter). Ephraim did not migrate to Ohio with his father and Rachel #2 around 1812. Instead, Epraim probably grew up in his grandfather’s household; was married and died in Frederick County.

The late Harold Painter included in “The Painter Family” (1975) the following biographical sketch of his grandfather, Nelson William Painter, from Mark A. McGruder, “History of Pettis County, Missouri” (Topeka Historical Publishing Co., 1919), p. 688.

“NELSON PAINTER…a son of Hamilton and Matilda (Grub) Painter. Hamilton was born in Virginia and was a son of John Painter.
“John Painter was twice married and both his first and second wives strangely bore the maiden name of Rachel Red, although they were not related. To both of his marriages were born 17 children.”

Nelson William Painter was born 23 August 1838 in Richland County, Ohio, presumably on the Painter family’s farm in Perry Township. He lived with or near his paternal grandparents John and Rachel #2, and was enumerated in the same household with them in the 1850 census. He moved to Missouri in 1860, the year John passed away, was a Union soldier, and returned to Richland County in 1865-66, while Rachel #2 was still living. Nelson himself was living when his biographical sketch was published, and almost certainly provided the information, which seems to be very reliable.

While indicating nothing of the existence of Rachel #1, Hazel M. Kendall, “This Book Records the Descendants of William Gregg the Friend Immigrant to Delaware 1682…” (Anderson, Indiana: 1944), p. 146, indicated that John Painter’s marriage to Rachel #2 was his second marriage. “…John Painter 1775-1860 Richland Co. Ohio (m. (2) Rachel Redd 1781-1862 prob. dau. of George Redd m. 1781 Rachel Fawcett…” In this same paragraph, however, there is information missing, questionable, or wrong.

EEP

[A] Marriage license: John Painter & Rachel Redd, 2 Jun 1808, Frederick Co., Virginia; Lewis Chastain, minister. "Frederick County, Virginia, Marriages," Eliza Timberlake Davis, ed. (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1973), p. 57. Chastain, a Methodist minister, also performed the marriage ceremony for John's first cousin Abraham Painter in 1807.

3 Jul 1809: Rachel (Redd) Painter, "Married out [of discipline]--testimony signed against and referred back to [Hopewell] Women's Mtg." (Joint Committee of Hopewell Friends, "Hopewell Friends History, 1734-1934, Frederick County, Virginia" (Strasburg, Virginia: Shenandoah Publishing House, Inc., 1936), p. 525.)

4 Sep 1809: Robert Painter and George Redd disowned by Hopewell for "Attending a wedding accomplished contrary to discipline." (Joint Committee of Hopewell Friends, "Hopewell Friends History, 1734-1934, Frederick County, Virginia" (Strasburg, Virginia: Shenandoah Publishing House, Inc., 1936), p. 515.)

Cross posted to: Painter; Redd; Frederick County, Virginia; and Richland County, Ohio message boards.
Mary Polly married George Steiner, Jr., b. 16 Feb 1781, in Cumberland County, PA, and they then moved to Stark County, OH. They subsequently changed surname to Stoner. Their son John Stoner then moved to Atchison County, Missouri in 1843, where the family settled for good, and where I grew up.

I find a John George Bender in the "germanna" database that seems to fit time and place. I don't remember his parents' names, but his siblings were Olive, Ruth and, I , Bob or Bill. I remember my grandfather telling me the original spelling of the name was Penter, but I don't know when it was changed. Any info appreciated. Oh, and I do remember on his mother's side somewhere was the surname of Doyle. Thanks.

Greetings,

Just a note to let you all know that there is a Painter and Bender DNA Project through FamilyTreeDNA.com. As many of you know, Bender/Painter genealogy is rough going and by using the DNA project we may be able to connect lines we suspect were related or break through that brick wall. I personally think it is facinating, the information takes you back 10,000 years and by taking it a step further you can join the National Geographic's "Genographic" program that shows how those with your dna migrated from Africa to Europe etc. I highly recomend it.

Mark S.
Ephraim Painter & Eliza Myers of Frederick Co., Virginia, 1800s

Ephraim Painter, about 1804 to 1852
Eliza Myers, about 1816-21 to before 1870
Married 28 October 1840, Frederick County, Virginia

Ephraim Painter, a son of Virginia Quaker couple John and Rachel (Redd) Painter, was born about 1804 in Frederick County, Virginia [A]. Rachel died when Ephraim was very young; his father remarried in 1808 [B]. John Painter sold his Virginia land and went to Ohio about 1812, settling in Richland County. Accompanying him were: two sons from his first marriage (Jacob and Andrew); second wife (also named Rachel Redd); and two children from his second marriage (Miriam and Hamilton). Ephraim remained behind in Virginia, probably entrusted to the care of his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Elizabeth (Hollingsworth) Redd. Andrew Redd’s 1818 will bequeathed “to my grandson Ephraim Painter one hundred and fifty dollars…when he arrives at the age of twenty one years.”

The next record of Ephraim Painter is his marriage to Eliza Myers on 28 October 1840 in Frederick County [C]. Eliza was born in Frederick County, a daughter of Joseph Myers [D]. Three records of her age provide conflicting information about her date of birth; a good guess is 1816 to 1821 [E].

Ephraim was not recorded in the 1840 census. Having married late in the year, Ephraim and Eliza probably did not “go into housekeeping”--establish their own home--until after the enumeration. The couple and four children were recorded in the 1850 census. The heads of the two preceding households on the same census sheet would become important to Ephraim Painter’s family after he died.

1850 U.S. Census, District 16, Frederick Co., Virginia; p. 352B, 23 November 1850.
3. Gabriel Chism [head], 58, laborer.
…
6. Lewis W. Hale [head], 42, farmer ($2,000).
…
10. Ephraim Painter [head], 46, laborer.
11. Eliza Painter, 43.
12. James H. Painter, 9.
13. George W. Painter, 4.
14. Ann E. Painter, 3.
15. Mary C. Painter, 1.
Notes: Neither Ephraim nor Eliza could read or write; James had attended school; all persons listed above born in Virginia.

Ephraim died in 1852, the exact date is not known. He left no will, but there are three estate-related documents [F]. Under Virginia law, his widow would receive a third of his property and his children two-thirds.

First: inventory and appraisal on 27 August 1852. Ephraim owned no land. Wheat valued at $26.95 was deducted for rent. His most valuable possessions were two mares worth $30 and $35, and 105 bushels of wheat worth $80.92. Total appraised value: $254.56.

Second: sale of his property on 27 September 1852 realized a total of $278.40. Three lots were purchased by one “Sorriya Painter.” We presume that this is a reference to Ephraim’s widow; she was the only adult Painter in the neighborhood in that time [G].

Third: settlement sheet that appears to be dated 1 October 1853. It is very difficult to read. One important section is readable: “The remaining 2/3 [of the estate] go to the children of deceased to wit: James, George W., Ann, Mary, and Elyas Painter, of whom Lewis M. Hale is Guardian, the sum told being $83.15” (punctuation added for clarity). This is the only primary source that identifies specifically the children of Ephraim. (1850 and 1860 census sheets do not indicate relationship, and, strictly speaking, are secondary sources.)

1860 U.S. Census, District 8, Frederick Co., Virginia; p. 163, (P. O. Stephensburg), 2 August 1860.
35. Eliza Painter [head], 44, housekeeper ($-0-, $60), VA.
36. James H. -----, 18, farm hand, VA.
37. Ann E. -----, 13, VA.
38. Mary C. -----, 12, VA.
39. Elisha P. -----, 7, VA.
40. Amanda F. -----, 4, VA.
Note: George, reported age 16, was enumerated in the household of Lewis M. Hale, his legal guardian. Amanda F., born about 4 years after the death of Ephraim, appears to have been adopted by Eliza.

Eliza Painter and neighbor Gabriel Chism, an elderly widower, were married in October 1864 in Frederick County [H]. They were not enumerated in the 1870 census, and were probably no longer living. Mary C. Painter and Amanda Painter, were enumerated together in the household of one Louisa Chishom.

The burial places of Ephraim Painter and Eliza Myers have not been identified.

Children:

i) James H. -- born December 1841; married Ann E. Nolen, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Krider) Nolen on 13 June 1876 in Frederick County; one son, John Thomas. James H. died after 1910. (Suspect that he was named James Henry Painter, after his father’s first cousin James Henry Redd.)

ii) George W. -- born April 1844; married Mary Jane Kline, daughter of Samuel J. and Martha J. (Grim) Kline, on 24 March 1875 in Winchester, Frederick County; four daughters, Martha, Elizabeth “Lizzy,” May O., and Georgianna. George W. died after 1900.

iii) Ann E. -- born about 1846-47. Enumerated in 1850 census, twice in 1860. No Frederick County marriage record; not found in 1870 census.

iv) Mary C. -- born about 1849; married John T. Cogill, son of John and Margaret Cogill, on 10 January 1875 in Frederick County. (John was then a widower in his 60s.) Five children reported in 1900 census (all living). Probably Lula; Minna or Lillie; Willy; Anne M., and Elizabeth. Died after 1900. (Suspect that Mary’s full name may have been Mary Curson Painter; named after her maternal grandmother.)

v) Elias -- born about 1852. Known from two records: as “Elyas” in father’s 1853 estate settlement, and as “Elisha P.” in 1860 census. The legal document, as a primary source, is stronger evidence. Elias may have been named for a possible uncle: in the 1850 census, in the household of Elias Painter’s grandfather, Joseph S. Myers (age 57), was Elias Myers (age 20)--quite possibly father and son; they both followed the same trade. No Frederick County marriage record; not found in 1870 or 1880 censuses.

Amanda F. -- born May 1856, four years after Ephraim’s death. Adopted daughter of Eliza Painter. According to “Frederick County, Virginia, Births 1855-96,” Beth Fridley, comp. (database online), Amanda’s father’s name was not given, her mother was identified as “C.” No Frederick County marriage record; not found in 1880 censuses. She is reported incorrectly by Harold Painter to be a daughter of Ephraim.

EEP

Crossposted to Painter / Myers / Frederick County, Virginia message boards

Notes:

[A] Identification of Ephraim’s parents from Harold Painter, “The Painter Family” (1975), p. 24. While not citing a specific source for this identification, the late Harold Painter’s sources included a journal (now lost) of Hamilton Painter (1810-1897), and oral accounts of Hamilton’s son Sherman Marquis Painter (1857-1938). John Painter and his first wife Rachel Redd were married probably in the late 1790s in Frederick County. No record of the marriage (or of Rachel Redd herself) survives, but Andrew Redd’s 1818 will--“my grandson Ephraim Painter”--provides evidence. Another of Andrew Redd’s daughters, Elizabeth, married Isaac Painter (a first cousin of John Painter) in 1799, but Elizabeth was living in 1818 and named specifically in the will.

[B] Marriage license: John Painter & Rachel Redd, 2 June 1808, Frederick Co., Virginia; Lewis Chastain, minister. "Frederick County, Virginia, Marriages," Eliza Timberlake Davis, ed. (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1973), p. 57. Chastain, a Methodist minister, also performed the marriage ceremony for John's first cousin Abraham Painter in 1807.

[C] Marriage record from John Vogt & T. William Kethley, Jr., “Frederick County Marriages, 1738-1850” (Athens, Ga.: Iberian Publishing Co., 1984), p. 177. Rev. John Allemong performed the marriage ceremony. (Rev. Allemong, was a Methodist minister in the Stephens City area, Frederick County.)

[D] From Eliza’s 1864 marriage record. Only the month and year were indicated. Frederick County Virginia, Marriage Register No. 2, 1853-1907.

[E] Three records report Eliza’s age:
1850 census / age 43 / born about 1807;
1860 census / age 44 / born about 1816;
1864 marriage record / age 43 / born about 1821.
The 1864 marriage record specifies also that her father was Joseph Myers. Myers’ reported ages in the 1850 and 1860 censuses--57 and 65, respectively--indicate he was born about 1793 or 1795--too young for Eliza to have been born about 1807. He married Mary Kurson on 13 July 1816 in Frederick County.

[F] These were obtained from the Handley Regional Library, Winchester, Virginia.

[G] “Sorriya” may be a clerk’s attempt at the Latin/legal term for wife: “uxor.”

[H] Gabriel Chism, shoemaker of Frederick County, widower, age 73, born in Orange County, Virginia, son of William and Delphia Chism. (Frederick County Virginia, Marriage Register No. 2, 1853-1907.)

Searching for burial site of Hartwell Spain Painter of Rutherford Co., NC. Have read on message board that Spain was born & died in Union Co., SC. However, he was a brother to my g grand-mother Myra Painter Butler of Rfd Co., & he died @ the home of my grandfather in early 1897 (by Mar.). His will was dated Dec. 15, 1896. Trying to prove/disprove that he was buried @ Butler-Painter Family Cemetery between Ellenboro & Caroleen. The UDC is including him in a new Civil War Soldiers Book (Heroes of the Sixties) as having been buried in Rfd Co. If info is confirmed, we can order a CSA Grave Marker for him. So far, have not found a grave marker, nor found him in any cemetery listing. He has had descendants in Upstate SC. I have details on his Civil War Service (SC Holcombe's Legion) & US Marine Corps. Hope someone will come forward with confirmation or info. Please e-mail me e_shows@bellsouth.net.

Trying to find out information about my grandfather Walter Painter/or Panther, on my father b. record it has his father as Walter Painter and his name as Leroy Painter But than some time in the 1930s their names where crossed out on my dads birth record and it was changed to Panther, I've asked and searched the Vital records in Tenn., but because the records where sealed they say I can't have the reasons why these changes where made on my dads birth records, My dad has passed away, so there isn't any person living that I know of that knew my grand father or any of his family. Walter was married to my grandmother in the 1920's her name was Drucy Smith, my dad was born in 1928, they divorced shortly after my dads birth. I was told by my grandmother before she died, that he was Native American. I was hoping that someone may know if the Panthers may have been known as Painters because they were native American. And they Changed their names to prevent ridicule during the turn of the century.Any information will be grateful.
Walter Painter/Panther b.1905
Drucy Smith b.1905

Hi,
I am looking for any information about my great aunt Sarah J. Painter. Painter is her married name. Parrish is her maiden name. She was born in Burlingame, KS in 1901 to Jack and Rose Parrish. She died in K.C., MO. She is buried in the Burlingame Cemetery. I know she had a son, but from what I heard she was married a couple of times and I have no clue of what his first or last name is. The only person still alive on that side of my family is my father and he does not remember. I hope someday someone will come across this and know who this person is and/or have any information that would help me out.

Thanks,
Nicole Weakley

Would love to find out any info on the Painter's that lived in the Beckley W.V. area in the past 100 years. I am trying to do a family tree of my husbands family. I know his dad was Raymond Painter who was a preacher and a coal miner also, he got killed in the Sun Coal Mine around 1957 I think. I believe his grandfather's name was Dorsey and the g-mother was LidaBelle Painter. They lived in Mt. Hope W.V. He had an Uncle James and I think an Aunt Edith and Belauh. Raymond married Myrtle Acord and they had 6 children. If you have any info please e-mail .
Thanks in advance for your help.

Where are these two brothers buried in Polk County, TN?

John Panter (22 Feb 1844 - 15 Mar 1921) had been living near his brother, James Madison Panter (21 Mar 1852 - 3 Feb 1941) in Polk County, TN, from about 1921 - 1924. The genealogy that I've been given says that James moved John to live near him, and had hired a man (James Wyatt) to take care of John.

The only location that I have for John and James is that they were living in Polk County, TN, when each died, John in 1924, James in 1941. Can anyone tell me what cemetery they are in?

He was the owner of George Pennington Roofing in Springfield, Delaware County, PA. (He was an only child)

My Grandfather was Harry David Painter, Sr. , who died in April of 1984? He was married to Carrie Watson (?) who died in the early 60's. He was born, we think, in 1888. He had at least two siblings: Walter and Nancy (that I know of.) He worked at Westinghouse for awhile.

I believe that he spent most of his life in Philadelphia.

Does any of this ring a bell with anyone??

Maria Adeline Painter / Tidrick, 1870-1928, Illinois

Maria Adeline Painter, born 9 October 1870* in Illinois, was the youngest daughter of Andrew and Eliza Ann (Gobble) Painter. Andrew died probably in early or mid-1870, and Eliza Ann left their older daughter, Mary Etta, with a childless couple in Morgan County, Indiana. Mrs. Eliza Ann Painter married William R. Roe, 18 April 1871 in Schuyler County, Illinois. Maria A. Painter, age 9, step-daughter, was enumerated in the Roe household in the 1880 census of that county.

Levi M. Tidrick and "May" Painter married 10 December 1887 in nearby Fulton County, Illinois, and were enumerated in Aurora, Fulton County, in the 1900 to 1920 censuses. The couple had eight children, five sons and three daughters (two daughters died in infancy):
Frank M.
Von B.
Fred N.
Louis
Linas B.
Garnet.

Maria Adeline (Painter) Tidrick died 1 April 1928 in Aurora. Her obituary listed her six children as survivors, as well as her husband, mother (E. A. Roe), sister (Mary Hetrick), and five half-siblings. Levi M. Tidrick died 27 November 1946.

* According to her death certificate; her obit reports 8 October 1869. The 1880 census supports the former; the 1900 census reports age 30, born October 1869. We suspect that Maria Adeline Painter was born in 1870, after the death of Andrew Painter.

Mary Etta Painter / Lacy / Hedrick, 1866-1944, Indiana

Mary Etta was a daughter of Andrew and Eliza Ann (Gobble) Painter, born April 1866 in Indiana. Andrew died apparently in early to middle 1870, and Mary Etta was placed in the household of a childless couple, John R. and Susan E. (Boyd) Lacy, of Morgan County, Indiana. “Marietta” Painter, age 4, was enumerated in the Lacy household in 1870 census, and—as Mary E. Lacy, age 14—in the 1880 census.

Mary E. Lacy and James M. Hedrick (b. 1861) married 12 Apr 1881 in Morgan County. According to the 1910 census (Morgan County), she had eight children, of whom six were living. These children included Edgar (b. 1889), Agnes Sylvia (b. 1892), Alta G. (b. 1895), Minnie O. / Opel M. (b. 1899), and Conrad (b. 1906).

Mary E. had a younger sister, Mary Adeline, who grew up in the household of her mother and stepfather William R. Roe in Illinois. Mary Adeline (Painter) Tidrick’s 1928 obituary specifically mentions among survivors “one sister, Mrs. Mary Hedrick of Cloverdale, Indiana.”

Cross-posted to the Painter, Lacy, Hedrick, and Morgan County, Indiana boards.

EEP

The Painter Family Record, book Published 1904

I have the following book. I transcribed it into a text file a few years ago and always intended to convert it to a gedcom file. Unfortunately, I never get the time to do so. I will furnish the copy of the text file to any two people who promise this list to convert it to a gedcom file and make it available to anyone who wants it, free of course.

The two people are expected to enter it into a Family Tree program and include the additional narrative info about a person into the appropriate notes field in the Family tree program. One person will be the main transcriber and the second person will act as a reviewer for accuracy.

Any volunteers?

George Painter

The Painter Family Record
Authors: Painter, B. H.,Painter, MD, and L. H.Painter, MD
Originally published by C.B. Unger of Eaton, Ohio, in 1904

It included a section on a Painter Family reunion and genealogy of the Painter family and the 125+ families that have allied through marriage with the descendents of Christian Painter and Mary Daily since the mid-1700's.

The 69 page book starts out in Rockingham Co., VA in the late 1700s and follows the family to Indiana in the early 1830s and on to 1904.

Painters from England.

I am looking for any information about William Painter. He was born in England in 1852 and died in the United States in 1897. He was married to a Elizabeth Jones who was born in 1852 in England as well and died in the US in 1929. They were married in England but I am not sure of the year. They left England for Canada sometime around 1875. William and Elizabeth had 7 children.

Mary Painter Simons
Martha Painter Perrine (sp?)
Sarah Painter Debalt (sp?)
William Painter
John Painter
Lynn Painter Redfoot
Francis Painter Stokely

Please, if anyone knows anything let me know, Thanks!

There is a chance that this William Painter's brother married Elizabeth Jones sister. In other words 2 brother's married 2 sisters. I don't know if this helps. Please if anyone has information on these Painters I would love to hear from you!
