Andrew Parker...Franklin Co, Al

Melinda E. Chisum w/o Andrew Parker and daughter of Obadiah Chisum Found!! While researching the Chisholm/Chism/Chisum family in Franklin Co, Al, I came across a Mary Ann Chisum, age 17, in the household of Andrew Parker in the 1850 Census. Subsequent research revealed that Mary Ann was the daughter of Thomas E Chisum, son of Obadiah Chisum of Robertson Co, TN. Thomas E. and his wife both died in 1833 and their children split up among relatives. Up until know, Mary Ann has been unaccounted for until her marriage to James Harris Curnutt. The 1850 Census of Franklin Co, Al shows Andrew Parker's wife to be Melinda E. born ca 1809 in Ky. I searched the Ebenezer Church Cemetery in Franklin Co and found Malinda E. Parker (wife of Andrew Parker) born 5/7/1808 died 10/31/1867. The Chism Bible shows that Melinda E. Chisum was born 5/7/1808. These exact birth dates of Melinda E. Parker and Melinda E. Chisum, the fact that Mary Ann Frances Chisum was the niece of Melinda E. Chisum, the fact that Melinda E. Chisum's brother, Gillington Chisum, was living in the same county as was the family of her brother, John until 1849, the fact that both Malindas were born in Ky all lead to the inescapable conclusion that Malinda E. Chisum was the wife of Andrew Parker. There is another thing, that tends to verify this conclusion. The 1830 Census shows that Malinda's father, Obadiah, was living next door to a Parker. Hence when her brother Thomas died in 1833, it is highly probably that she was living next door to the Parker family (Nathanial or Benjamin..I can't put my hands on that document) . This leads me to believe that Andrew Parker was the son of the Parker in the 1830 Census of Robertson Co, TN. and next door to Obadiah Chisum. One other thing. Malinda E. Chisum also had a brother, John W. Chisum who married a Sarah Parker in Va on 12/7/1812. Sarah was living in the same area of Franklin Co until she moved to Itawamba Co MS in 1849. On researching that Parker line, Sarah's father was William, I know they were from Va and some went to NC. It is highly likely that the Christina Parker, age 89, b in Va as shown in Andrew's household in 1850, is Andrew's mother and Andrew's father came to NC from Va. I hope this is of some use to someone.

W.L. Chisholm

I am researching my ancestor, Abel Parker, who is buried in the Georgia Plains Cemetery, Georgia, VT. The headstone says, "Died 1851, In the 89 year of his age." Abel was married to Lydia (1780-1859). He was the father of Noah Richard Parker (1808-1892), who was the father of Franklin Noah Parker (1851-1921), who was the father of my Great-Grandmother Irene Joyce Parker Sanders (1888-1976). I would appreciate any information you may have on Abel.

John Parker- Cherokee

I have trying to locate information on John Parker who is I believe my gret-great grandfather. He was Cherokee and I have been told that he was a chief and went by the name of Walking Stick. He and his wife and his brother escaped while travelling the Trail of Tears and settled in Stewart County Tennessee where he changed his name to John Parker. I believe his wife's name was Margarite or something similar and she was also Cherokee. They had several children, one of which was Jesse Parker who then had my grandfather Jesse Etheridge Parker, Jr. We've been trying to find out if anyone was registered with the Cherokee Nation but have been unable to find anything as of yet.

I am desperate to find any information on my great-grandparents, Ella Parker and Henry Oliver Brown. They are dead ends on my paternal grandfather's side of the family. I know that Ella came from a wealthy family who disowned her because she married an Indian. I know that a white family on their way to Mississippi picked up Henry Oliver Brown picked up as a baby. They found him abandoned where an Indian village had been destroyed. I have no information on any siblings that either Ella or Henry had.

Ella and Henry married and had several children:

Mary Alzadie Brown (married a Cooper and may have been Henry's from a previous marriage)
Bilbo Brown
Woodrow Wilson Brown (my grandfather)
John H. Brown, Sr.
Ophelia Brown (married Lonnie Tarver)
Mary Brown (married a McKey)
Nellie Brown (married Dude Morgan, Roy Villar, and then a Ruiz)
Rosalie Brown (married Hubert Lewis)

I would appreciate any information about my great grandparents.

Thank you.

Parker's Scotland in English records

I came across this information in England records and thought I would pass on. I have no connection with this family.

Janice Friel
FILE - Correspondence from Dr. Alexander Mol[l]ison to James Parker - ref. 920 PAR/I/1 - date: 1759
[from Administrative History] James Parker was born in Port Glasgow, Scotland, in 1729, and emigrated to Virginia, America, at an unverified date, possibly between 1745 and 1750. An article in the Liverpool Bulletin (op. cit.: introductory notes) states that he emigrated "as an employee of the great Glasgow mercantile God of the Virginian tobacco trade, Alexander Spiers"
[from Administrative History] In 1758, he became a business partner of William Aitchison, also a Scottish emigrant and the concern of Aitchison and Parker was established at Norfolk, Virginia, trading in merchandise of various kinds, including Negro slaves

I am looking for any information on Francis Marion Parker. He was born around 1853 in Montgomery, AL. I think. He married Sallie Jane Davenport. She is the daughter of Warren M. Davenport. Her mother's given name was either Devinea or L.A. according to the census records of Ouachita, LA in 1870-80.
I have been told that Francis' father was John Parker born in England and that he died when Francis was only 12. And that he came to the USA shortly before Francis was born.
Francis was my maternal GGGrandfather. Any help would be appreciated.
Angel DUNN Murray

James Martin Parker

Mart as he was known was married first to Mary Coal (Cole) and second to Barbara Sylvania DeFoor. He was a moonshine runner in Marion County Alabama in the early 1910"s and after a stint in Jail was eventually murdered by some of his old running buddies. Willie Fredrick was suspected of the murder. Any information on Mart or his Parentage is appreciated. Parents are believed to be Teletha or Telitha Ernest, who died of typhoid in Alabama in 1909 along with her elder son Tandy Jack and John Parker.
His children were Cynthia Melissa Ann Parker b. 1906 married William Frederic and had 8 children before she died in a hospital in Birmingham, Alabam of Tuberclosis at age 34. Mary Lillie Telitha Abia Parker, b. 11 Jan. 1908 married Oscar Robert Frost, b. 29 Mar 1904 on 29 April 1922. They had 2 sons. Gordon Sampson Parker, their only son, was born on either 18 or 28 Aug 1909 never had children but was married to a woman I only remember as Beatrice and she had 2 children Gordon helped to raise. Bessie Parker their youngest child was my Gmother, b. 9 June 1912. She married Buster Brown Butler, b. 13 April 1909 and they had 9 children. I have lots of other information on the Children of Mart Parker and a great deal on the DeFoor Sims Family but I hit a wall with the Parkers, all or any help would be appreciated.
The unknown male was either a previously unnamed son of Jacob Sr., or a son of Jacob Jr. by a deceased mother.

Any information regarding the identity of the unknown male under 16 would be appreciated.

I believe it may be Samuel Parker who migrated to Clark County, AR from KY prior to 1810.

Book on Parker Family Genealogy

Dear Friends,
Just this year we have completed and published a book "Pioneers of the South" which features 7 prominet families in North Carloina. Parker is one of them and is well researched. The book took 10 years to research and publish.

The oldest Parker is "William the Mariner". His second son was also William Parker. This second son came to Nansemond Co. NC on one of the family ships, the "Charles", in 1616 at the age of 20. He married Anne Powell and had at least four sons. "John of Lynhaven", "Thomas of Lynhaven", "William of Parker's Creek" and my ancestor (ggggggggrandfather (eight)). This book has alot of land records, wills and of course genealogy trees. If any of you are interested let me know. Send me your questions and I will try to answer them.

The other families are as follows: Riddick Stone, Runyan, Duke, Powell, Hunter.

Yours,
Edgar Kader Riddick III
Little Rock, Arkansas

Henry (or William Henry?) early Bourbon County KY

I am descended from Henry Parker of Pickens County AL. All roads seem to lead to Sullivan County TN and Bourbon County KY. However, I find the Bourbon Parkers very confusing, especially since people seem to be very sure of relationships, children, etc. but don't give documentation. My Henry's father is supposed to be William Parker b. about 1767 in NC, and there is a record of Henry's marriage to Betsey Willis. Since they had a son named Willis, I think it's reasonable to assume this is my Henry. I also believe there to be a close relationship to Aquilla Parker, the revolutionary soldier who moved to Bourbon County before 1800. Can anyone help me figure out exactly who my Henry was and tell me why you think so? Thank you very much for your help.

I will have to speak to my father and mother about this book, but maybe it can answer some of people's questions. They are some branches missing from this tree, but it goes all the way back to a man name Quanto (or some indian name similiar to this) PARKER. I think it goes back to 1609, if any one would like for me to see if I can research please let me know.
