Hi. Looking for info on Henry (James?) Percy who was born about 1882 in Plymouth, England. He married Sarah Ann Curtis about 1903, then they moved to Canada.

Sarah Ann Curtis was born April 7, 1884 and died January 22, 1978 in Canada.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm assuming they both had parents, but I'm not sure about siblings.

Thanks!

p.s. Sarah was my great-grandmother... I thought she was the queen when I was young.

Richard Percy to Richard Pearce around 1500

Several books say that Richard Percy changed his name to Richard Pearce and founded Pearce Hall in York, England around 1500. “The Pearce Genealogy being the Record of the Posterity of Richard Pearce” by Col Frederick Pierce, published in 1888 is the oldest book with this name change that I am aware of. However, this book has a very bad reputation in the genealogy community. Lots of other books and articles include this but they do not indicate their source. I expect that they just copied the data from the 1888 book. Also, these books indicate that he is an ancestor of the Richard Pearce who was in R. I.

I have ample data on my Pearce lineage in America, but no good sources for any of the Pearce people from Richard Percy/Pearce who founded Pearce Hall to the Richard that came to Rhode Island.

Do you have any good source data for this name change??

PERCY LINEAGE TO ANCIENT ROME...

Greetings,

My name is William Supernaw, a Percy descendant through my ancestor Margaret Percy of Northumberland, England. The Percy's of Northumberland are of a rather well known peerage in the U.K., however many Percy's with no knowledge of their own roots should indeed investigate the possibility of their own descension from this line, as I did.

For those who do have knowledge of a Percy Northumberland ancestor, I have completed a chart of a fairly recent ancestoral discovery. I have cross-referenced the original chart myself and find it to be accurate. The chart shows the connection of the Northumberland Percy family to a Royal lineage that stretches all the way to a Roman Senator named Syragrius. Possibly of greater importance, our line links us directly to numerous Kings of England, Scotland, a King of Jerusalem as a result of the First Crusade, one Holy Roman Emperor, and a Western Roman Emperor, although he would be a great uncle.

Anyone interested in the chart, it is free. Please simply email me directly at supernaw242000@yahoo.com

Sincerely,

William Supernaw

Does anyone have information about Alexander Percy or any of his family? Alexander married his first wife, Rachel Watkins, (b. 05 Jul 1823 in Brownville, Jefferson County NY) on 04 Aug 1844. They had four children: Fred A., Jane E., Amelia E. and Milton C. Rachel died 22 Jun 1853 and Alexander married her sister, Matilda Ann Watkins (b 19 Jun 1831) on 22 Feb 1854. They had two children, Maria L and Frank (?) L. I got much of this information from the will of Morgan Watkins, Alexander's father-in-law. I am not sure if I deciphered Frank correctly as the writing was very difficult to read.

Particularly interested in their son George, Born 13-11-1852. The birth was registered in the sub-district of St Margaret, District of Westminster, County of Middlesex. Possibility they could have migrated to Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Also descendants of John William Percy, who was a metallurgist who married agnes richards, or George Percy, electroplater, who married Isabella Agnes Hughes, or for that matter, any George Percy born between 1840 and 1860.

Hazel Bell Percy, b.abt 1892, granddau of John Mason, lived Pepin Co., WI, married Roy Moyer

I have an original postcard photograph of “Hazel Bell Percy – Dec 29, 1909”, which was signed “from your friend” and addressed to Roy Moyer, Caryville, Wis. I’d like to get back the photo back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in Durand (Pepin Co.) Wis., and Hazel looks to be about 17-18 years old.

I found Hazel in the 1905 Wisconsin state census, living in Durand, age 13, with grandparents John C. and Elifandere Mason and their children, one of whom is a daughter Rosa – who seems the only one who could be the mother of Hazel. WI marriage records show that Hazel married Roy E. Moyer.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Hazel Bell Percy.

PERCY Brothers Reunited After 45 Years 1911
The Oklahoman
04-25-1911
p.9 / 14

FORTY-FIVE YEAR SEPARATION ENDS

Oklahomans Are Reunited in Reno, Nev., After Long Life Apart

Reno, Nev., April 24-(Special)-

There was an affecting scene in the law office of Hugh Percy
in this city Monday when he and his silver-haried brother
William Thomas Percy clasped hands for the first time in
forty-five years.

The Percy brothers were reared on an Oklahoma farm. In 1866,
Hugh then 13 years old and now one of the foremost lawyers
in Reno, set out from the sparsely settled territory to make
jis way in the west. William was 8 when he said goodbye to
his brother.

Going to Wyoming, hugh engaged in fighting Indians under
General Cook and later, under General Miles, battled against
the Apache's in Arizona. Young Percy then became a cattle
man and made a fortune. Then he went to California. Two
years ago William inserted an advertisement in a farm journal
inquiring the wehereabouts of Hugh. This led to the reunion.

***posted for genealogical purposes only; no relation***

Percy/Pierce families

I am the administrator of the Pierce family dna project.
We are using dna to help fill in gaps in our "paper trails" and to prove connections among old Pierce/Pearce lines. I have always been intrigued by the old Pierce lineage books that report a connection between Richard Pierce of R.I. and the Percy family back in England. I have seen no proof to support this.

We are looking for a male Percy with a direct line back to the Percys of Alnwick (Second House of Percy) to join our project. Our group would be willing to pay for a 25 marker dna test of any Percy who has a documented link to this line of the Percy family. If interested please check out our website http://www.piercednanorth.com. You can find my email link there.

I need to get more information on John Percy who left either Ct. RI, or Long Island to go to the Hoosick Valley (near Bennington, Vt. and Hoosick Falls, New York). I know he was born in 1749, fought the Rev. War from Hoosick, and died there on 10-4-1805. I don't even know his wife's name for sure although I suspect he had several as he had a number of children over a long period.

Percy and Pearce in England in the 1500s
Table 2 in A History of the House of Percy by Gerald Brenan has Sir Ralph Percy as the son of Henry Percy (b 1394, d 1455) and Eleanor Neville (d 1463). One of their children is Sir Ralph Percy (d 1464) who married Jane Teye. This document does not have any of their children.

Other Pearce lineage books tie this lineage from Richard and Jane to this Pearce lineage: Peter Percy (b 1447, d 1485) to Richard (1) Percy (b about 1500, d?) who changed the spelling of Percy to Pearce. His son was Richard (2) Pearce. These 2 Richards are associated with Pearce Hall. The son of Richard (2) was Richard (3) (b 1590, d 1666) who had a son Richard (4) who married Susannah Wright. Richard (4) and Susannah came to Rhode Island in the early 1600s.

While this lineage is in several books, none of them list any proper references for this lineage.

Does anyone have any good, proper source documents documenting these Percy and Pearce families?

Thanks,

Warren Pearce

pearceww@rmi.net
I bought a baby book off ebay that belongs to a Gloria Sharp. Her mother was Alice Percy of Anaconda, Montana. Alice married William Bernard Sharp in 1916. Gloria died at the age of 21 in 1951. She had an older sister who married a Mr Carter who was in the Diplomatic Corp and stationed in Paraguay in 1961. If any of this rings a bell, there are a ton of wonderful photos that need to get to the rightful heirs. I am willing to send them to the right people. A ton of memories that someone will cherish.
I corrected a type error:

There are lots of books indicating that Richard Percy changed his name to Richard Pearce in 1500 and founded Pearce Hall in York England.

The Pearce Genealogy being the Record of the Posterity of Richard Pearce by Col Frederick Pierce, published in 1888 is the oldest source of this name change that I am aware of. Lots of other books include this but they do not indicate their source. Also, the accuracy of this book has been questioned as some of the facts have been found to be wrong.

Can anyone in the Percy group identify any proper source documents attesting to Richard Percy changing his name to Richard Pearce?

I have a lot of Pearce data from R.I. in the early 1600s I’ll be glad to share

Thanks,

Warren Pearce
pearceww@rmi.net

Also, the accuracy of this book has been questioned as some of the facts have been found to be wrong.

Can anyone in the Percy group identify any proper source documents attesting to Richard Percy changing his name to Richard Pearce?

I have a lot of Pearce data from R.I. in the early 1600s I’ll be glad to share

Thanks,

Warren Pearce
pearceww@rmi.net

I am looking for more information about a Robert Percy, b. abt 1800, perhaps in Dorset, England. He had a daughter named MaryAnn Percy (b. 9 Oct 1825 in Sturminster Newton, Dorset, England) who married Thomas Young (b. 5 Mar 1825). MaryAnn Percy Young died in 1927 in Sherborne, Dorset, England. Please contact me via my email address if you have any more information about either MaryAnn Percy Young and her family or the family of Robert Percy. I do not know who his spouse was or any of their other children. Neither do I have any information as to Robert Percy's ancestry. Thank you.

Count von Donbavine/Dunbabin

I am looking for information on Count von
Donbavine/Dunbabin . He fled the German Crown, or for religious persecution. They (wife and daugther) went to England and Anglicized their name and that of their daughter, Mary, to Dunbabin. At least that is what my great Aunt understood the pronouncement to be. All their lands, etc, were conficated by the German Crown and they could take very little with them when they fled. The above information was from a letter my Great Aunt wrote to family members. I would like to know their first names, and date of birth. They could have come form the Baden area. If anyone knows of a book, census, anything that could lead me in the right way to finding out this information, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
Erline Mathews
I would like to trace my Percy roots but have no one to ask. Mother was a Percy but she is gone as is g-father and gg-father. Grandfather was Charles L. Percy born in IL in 1914. His father was a Robert Percy. Charles percy died in 1972 in Granite City, IL. Robert Percy died in 1975 or 1976 in Atwater, IL. Can't find the location of any relatives, except there is supposed to be Charles' sister Lucille in a nursing home in Medina, OH. Don't know which one. Any help will be appreciated.

The Percys' of Northumberland

According to the Article "Beware of Fraudulent Genealogies" in Family Chronicle Jan/Feb 2001, there might be false genealogies out there if said genealogies were compiled by Gustav Anjou, a forger who lived in the late 1800's to early 1900's. I found a false "link" between Captain Thomas Harris (c. 1586- 1658) and the Percys of Northumberland. There is simply no proof of connection and there are sources (such as his will) that seem to contradict the connection. According to the article mentioned above, the Buckner family might have the same false connections to royalty or nobility because Anjou compiled a genealogy for them. The Family History Library in Salt Lake City has a database of Anjou genealogies if anyone researching the Percy lineage has doubts and especially anyone researching connections between Virginia families and Northumberland nobility. The webpage is www.familysearch.com. For Anjou search under AUTHOR then ANJOU and the false genealogy list will come up (unless they've changed their site for some inexplicable reason).
