Received this information on Augusta Lindell. I can not confirm this yet. It said Augusta Lindell (Persdotter) Vastra ny parish, emigrated July 21st, 1896 from Vastra ny parish a possible sister Hilma Matilda Lindell (Persdotter) born June 29, 1869 Vastra ny parish and emigrated March 10th 1887. Augusta lived in Jamestown NY once she arrived from Sweden. She died appx. in 1902. She had family in the Rockford Il area. I am looking for anyone that may have a match with the Persdotter name and the same parish information from Sweden that may help me determine if this information is valid. In Sweden was it common to change last names (Persdotter to Lindell)?

She probably changed it after her arrival in the US.

Women did not change their names when they were married back then. They were given their names based on the patrynomic formula: Father's given name +sdotter. This is what makes Swedish genealogy difficult for me. In some ways it's interesting, in others, frustrating:)
