My Dad's grandmother’s maiden name was Johanna
PERSDOTTER [PIERSDOTTER] Piercedotter is one pronunciation, or Grandma
Hanna would say, “Pierce daughter.†That was Johanna’s maiden name before she married Alfred
Fredrickson.
Alfred and Johanna had 4 children: SIGNE [later
ERRICKSON stayed in By], John,
Hanna, and Ellen. Alfred died when Grandma was around 4 years of age. They had an uncle named Gustav
Fredrickson who a very popular singer and would sing for the king.
Signe [later
ERRICKSON] is buried in By. There are family records at the By church. Signe had twin girls, Viola and Mary. My Great
Uncle visited By before he died and saw Signe’s daughters.
John and
Hanna Fredrickson came over to the US without their mother under the name of and with an Aunt named
HAGLUND. The August 17, 1910 Carmania manifests indicate that 14 year old
Hanna HAGLUND and 17 year old Carl J. Haglund enter accompanied by Christina
HAGLUND, age 57. The manifest lists them as U.S. citizens and only indicates that they are traveling home to
Medina,
North Dakota and that they do not possess tickets to get there.
We are uncertain as to exactly how we are related to the Haglunds. The 1910 census for
Medina,
Stutsman County,
North Dakota indicated that Lars G. and Christina
HAGLUND are a married couple. They have five sons and a daughter living with them listed as: Charles G., John, Selma C., Otto E., Albert N., and Phillip A. Lars was then 71 and Christina 57. Lars, Christina, and Charles were born in Sweden and immigrated in 1882. The other children were born in
South Dakota. Lars Gustaf
HAGLUND died at the age of 72 on Oct 24, 1911. His parents were
Anders Krave
HAGLUND and Eva [unrecalled]. Christina
HAGLUND was born in 1853 and died in 1944.
Christina may have been Johanna’s sister through the
PERSDOTTER family.
Sister Ellen Came over with Johanna and stayed with the Haglunds, as well. Ellen, but not
Hanna, attended school in 1915 in
Medina. The 1917 census no longer shows Ellen attending school in
Stutsman County,
North Dakota.
JoHanna patenting a homestead in
Dodson,
Montana in 1922. Given the 5 year homesteading requirement, she must have been in
Dodson in 1917 and reunited with
Uncle John, Aunt Ellen, and Grandma
Hanna.
John ran away from the Haglunds and went to
Moose Jaw Canada where he worked for a farmer for two years. He then went to
Dodson [
Phillips County]
Montana and homesteaded there. He was with a
HAGLUND there and then went back to Minneapolise with
HAGLUND and spent about a year there. Then he returned to
Dodson and then Grandma JoHanna
Fredrickson and Ellen appeared there. Grandma
Hanna joined them somewhere in here.
If you can help me find out more about my relatives, please advise.
