Hi, Tom! Thanks for responding to my queries.

First, that Ezra and Rachel were the parents of Samuel, et al, is from a family bible that is in my family's possession. The bible was passed down from Ezra and Rachel, through Samuel; to George; to Mary Ella; to my grandfather, Arthur; and finally to my uncle (also Arthur). I haven't any other proof than that, but that's sorta' solid, I think. The bible does not go beyond Ezra and Rachel, and mentions nothing of parentage or siblings for either of them.

According to the bible, Ezra went to New Marlborough, MA in 1778. All of the information that I have on descendants and dates came from that bible. The birth date that I have for Samuel is as listed in the bible.

One bible discrepancy is Samuel's marriage date to Mary McCullum. One entry is for 1821 at Tyringham, Berkshire Co., MA. Another is Jan-08-1820 Great Barrington, Berkshire Co., MA.

Some of the dates are hard to read, so that's probably why I mistook George and Mary Kennedy's marriage date as 1856, instead of 1850. In the bible, Mary is most definitely listed as "Kennedy," not "Canida." I cannot explain this discrepancy. Also, one bible entry shows her birth date as being Apr-9-1835; another indicates that it was Nov-15-1836.

According to the written notes of George Phillips (within the Ezra Phillips family bible), he moved his family by covered wagon from Illinois to Iowa. He does not note the date, but it was after the birth of Julia in about 1864. Settled at Woodburn, Iowa. The bible gives two different dates of death for George; one being Dec-25-1919, and the other being Dec-6-1917. Don't know which one is correct.

There is no mention in the bible of a child named Alice being born to George and Mary. Where did that name come from?

I will be happy to send you copies of the bible pages. But, it may take me some time to get them. I never made copies, and my uncle has got the actual bible in Seattle, WA. He is sometimes untimely about getting things to me. But, I'll bug him about it.

I find it EXTREMELY interesting that your line came here to Plumas County! I live in Taylorsville. Rich Bar is most definitely in Plumas County, next to Lassen County. Rich Bar still exists today and, as far as I know, was the only place within Plumas/Lassen Counties so-named. I've done a lot of research about the area, and do lots of volunteer work here, including cemetery transcriptions. I can hardly believe that a side line of the family was right here, and that Thomas had dealings with Peter Lassen! Peter Lassen built the very first building here in Indian Valley (built by white men, I mean). Taylorsville is on the south side of Indian Valley; Peter Lassen's trading post was on the north side.

I wonder where Thomas died? Do you know?

I don't know that there is any connection at all, but there is a Fairchild baby buried right here at Taylorsville. There are no Fairchild families around here, and never were (permanent, anyway). The Fairchild baby is the only one of that surname buried anywhere around here. Unfortunately, there is no marker and, so, no dates.

I would love to correspond with you some more, and share some more information. Please do e-mail me direct, if you'd like to do so (watbull@frontiernet.net).

For the benefit of this board, I'll post an outline of the family as I know it (you'll see some discrepancies between your information and mine, mainly as far as surnames go). This information is taken directly from the Ezra Phillips family bible pages. The * indicates my line.

Discrepancies between your information and mine:
(a) You have Seth Phillips (son of Samuel and Betsy) married to Bathsheba Wilkins... her name was omitted from the bible for some reason.
(b) You have Samuel Phillips (son of Samuel and Betsy) married to Mary Carter; the bible shows her as Abby Carter.
(c) You have Albert Phillips (son of Samuel and Betsy) married to Mercy Kilborn; the bible shows her as Mercy Kilmer.
(d) You have a spouse for Nancy (daughter of Samuel and Betsy); he was omitted from the bible.
(e) You have James Phillips (son of Samuel and Mary) married to Sarah Fairchild; the bible shows her as Sarah Cutting.
(f) You show the wife of both William Phillips and Jackson Phillips (sons of Samuel and Mary) to be Mary Ackerson; the bible shows her as Mary Akers.
(g) You show George Phillips married to Mary Canida; the bible and other family records indicate that her surname was Kennedy.

And, that's that. Whew! Long post.
