Hi, Anderson,
I am answering your question on this public forum, because I think it is a good question and the answer is informative to many people. DNA is proving that all the people with Phillips as a last name are not related through their Phillips lines within the past 1000 years. So far DNA has identified over 40 different, unrelated Phillips families and in addition there are over 80 men named Phillips whose DNA does not match any other men named Phillips within a genealogical time frame. This means over 100 unrelated men (at a minimum) adopted the last name Phillips as surnames came into existence from 1000 AD to 1700 AD. Of course, some of these mismatches may also be due to adoption or other non-paternal events. Since you are a male with the last name Phillips, you qualify to join a Phillips surname DNA project and get tested. Contact me at nancy2kiser@yahoo.com if you are interested.
Sincerely,
